Nino felt visibly sick as he recognised the voice. Ketomi. He hadn’t seen the man come in, but it was clear that he was. The lights had dimmed somewhat, and he could see that the crowd had parted and Ketomi was walking towards the stage with a smirk on his face. Nino was positive that his flesh crawled at the sight and he looked at Satoshi hoping that he would rise his bid.

“30,000” Satoshi called his eyes not once leaving Nino, though Nino saw that his hands had clenched. He looked at Ketomi swallowing down a lump as his mouth opened;

“40”

“100,000” A murmur broke out over the crowd and Nino almost fainted His mouth was dry, and he looked at the Santa who had fallen silent for the first time that night. Under his beard his mouth was open his eyes almost popping out of his skull. Nino hoped that that would be enough but Ketomi continued to smirk his eyes flashing as he chuckled;

“120”

“150”

“190” Ketomi shot back and Nino stumbled back over the stage the blood rushing through his ears drowning out the sounds of the bids. He knew that the bidding was still going on, but he wanted to run away. “No wonder he likes being with you if you’re willing to spend this much on him…”

“What?” Nino snarled from the stage his mind snapping clear at the words. He saw red, never in his life had he asked for anyone to pay him and he felt as insulted as when the cleaning woman had tried to give him the money. “You shouldn’t judge people by your own standards, you jumped up little prick” Nino growled taking the microphone from the Santa positive that Satoshi gave a very tiny smile. “Satoshi doesn’t spend anything on me. I like being with him because even if he is a confusing prat he can be sweet when he wants to be. He makes me feel special, and if you want to know…He’s bloody great in bed…”

“Okay…I think we can safely say that Ohno-san has won this” Santa laughed awkwardly his cheeks a deep red as he took his microphone back and started clapping in a near frantic way. “Ohno-san…Your prize…”

“Thank-you, I think I will” Satoshi easily jumped up onto the stage without bothering to go to the stairs and Nino realised just what he had said in front of the entire bloody office. There was no putting the cat back in the bag now. His hands were almost shaking as Satoshi reached him and his head spun. “I’ve got you…” Satoshi whispered as he swayed from side to side before nearly falling to the floor. “You shouldn’t get so fired up in your condition you know…”

“I’m not an invalid…” Nino grumbled but kept his head buried into the older man’s chest hoping that the rest of the party would vanish. Satoshi let out a little laugh, his hand trailing up and down his back before saying;

“No, but you are in the early stages of pregnancy…Prone to dizzy spells at the best of times…”

“Urgh...” Nino growled but nodded his nose rubbing against the soft fabric of Satoshi’s top.  “Why…Why have you been…”

“…I will explain but…Maybe we should get down from the stage first? I’ve never been fond of stage plays” Satoshi chuckled again and very slowly Nino nodded pulling himself reluctantly from the man’s chest keeping his eyes closed like a child believing that nobody would be able to see them if they couldn’t see. Satoshi took his hand and led him away from the centre of the stage and Nino could feel the heat of him against his back. He could hear the hall humming with excitement and he swallowed with a marriage proposal and a pregnancy announcement it was clear that this Christmas party would probably go down in Yama heights history as being the most exciting one. Satoshi led him away from the main party and then out of the door into a private sitting room. There was already a couple inside, but they quickly got up and ran.

“I supposed that they didn’t hear…” Nino chuckled opening his eyes and thankfully sinking into a chai his hands coming to rest on his stomach. Satoshi closed the door shutting out the loud chatter and let out a laugh.

“Yeah, but I’m sure the office gossipers will fill them in” He hummed before coming and sitting on the small coffee table in front of him. His hands came out and took his, his thumbs moving slowly over the skin and Nino let out a sigh.

“So, why…Why have you been a jerk again?”

“…I’m not used to telling people my problems, Kazunari, I never have done. I haven’t even been able to talk to Sho. So, I’m sorry. The meeting the other day. It wasn’t strictly a business lunch, the person I was meeting was my ex-lover”

“What?! Why?”

“He wasn’t just my lover, he was my husband. We married young. My sister had just died, and I was low” Satoshi whispered looking awkward, as though he had never talked about this with anyone before. “I met Chinen then and I thought that I was in love with him. I’m ashamed to say that it took me longer than it should to realise that he was only out for what he could get. He would ask for bits of money here and there, and I blindly gave it to him. He had another lover or rather lovers on the side. Eventually I realised what was happening and with Sho’s help I left him”

“So why go back…”

“We’re still married, I never divorced him and even if we’re separated he has made it clear that he will make me out to be a cheater and take me for every penny I have” Satoshi sighed heavily his eyes closing as he bit on his lip and Nino felt himself growl darkly.

“But you know that he was cheating…”

“I have no evidence whereas I have you and our child. I met with him hoping that we could sort it out like grown-ups, but he knows that he would be better going through the courts” Satoshi let out a another, long sigh while Nino tried his best to think about it.

“But you’ve been separated for years. Why did you never divorce him?”

“I never had much of a reason to. Even if it ended badly between us I did think I still cared about him, at least that’s what I told myself, the truth is I am just an idiot”

“You were, a bloody idiot…But…Don’t shut me out again, if you want this to work, I do…I want to make this work, Satoshi…” Nino whispered meaning every word and Satoshi nodded lapping at his top lip. Nino was positive that the man’s eyes glowed with happiness before he continued in a whisper;

“As do I, which is why I told him that I will be sending the divorce papers out. I have some of the best lawyers in town and I’m not afraid of losing money, so I will be free…”

“You know for a smart man, you’re pretty dumb. You’re not going to lose anything except maybe a settlement, don’t you know that I’m a brat…”
