The restaurant Satoshi took him too was elite, just off the main road and the kind of place Nino would normally avoid if he could help it knowing that his wallet would suffer, strangely though he had the feeling that he had been here before. Walking into a secluded room at the back of the restaurant shouldn’t have been so familiar and yet it was. He frowned and looked over at Satoshi who was sitting across from him studying the drinks menu.

“Have I been here before?”

“We came here on my birthday. You insisted on treating me” Satoshi answered with a chuckle looking at him from over the top of the menu and Nino felt his cheeks warming as he tried to remember. “You don’t remember?”

“Nope, I don’t remember anything from telling you I was quitting until the next morning…” Nino muttered honestly his mouth feeling dry. Satoshi’s eyebrow rose, and Nino had the distinct impression that the older man was pursing his lips.

“I wondered why you rejected the money. I told you I would pay you half back…”

“…Your cleaner…She implied that I was a whore…At least…At least that’s what it felt like…” Nino grumbled bristling at the memory and he was glad that Satoshi reached over the table and held his hand tight. If he hadn’t there was a very real chance that he would have been lost in the anger and embarrassment of that morning. He had never felt so embarrassed and insulted.

“I’m sorry, that was wrong of her and of me. I shouldn’t have treated you the way that I did. I don’t have any real excuse for it”

“It’s…Okay…I’ve already decided that…That was Ohno…And you now are Satoshi” Nino shrugged the anger fading as he rolled his shoulders in a shrug. Knowing that Satoshi hadn’t meant to pay him for his services that night did a lot to sooth the pain he had felt then.

“My cleaner…I…I confess that it wouldn’t have been the first time that she had to…I wasn’t celibate…” Satoshi’s cheeks turned a bright pink and his eyes fell to the table. Never in all the time Nino had worked for him had he ever imagined that Satoshi could look so embarrassed. It was cute in a sexy masculine kind of way and Nino swallowed as he realized what that meant.

“You paid for sex?”

“Is that really so shocking, Kazunari? I’m not the most pleasant of men and I…Didn’t want a relationship” Satoshi let out a heavy sigh pushing away his embarrassment by drinking from the water glass. “Sex with professionals was the only option that I had”

“I see, well I guess, ahem…Sorry, I didn’t mean to make it sound seedy, I was just surprised, you’re a good-looking man, even if you’re a little scary, so I figured that maybe you went clubbing…” Nino rolled his shoulders his cheeks staining pink themselves. It was what he normally did if he felt the itch. He would go to a club find a suitable bloke and then headed off to the nearest hotel. It was normally over in a flash and he assumed that would be the case with Satoshi. To hear that he paid for sex was strange.

“The only time I have ever been to a club was with you on the night of my birthday” Satoshi informed him and once again Nino wished that he could remember at least some of their night together. It seemed as though they had had a lot of fun. Or at least it must have been fun because Satoshi wouldn’t have taken him home afterwards.

“…We did a lot…Huh?”

“It was without a doubt one of the most enjoyable birthdays I’ve had…” Satoshi hummed with a smile just as the waitress, dressed in a light blue outfit, came into the room with a notepad and pen. Nino worried a little at lip allowing Satoshi to confidently order food and drinks for them. He tried his best to remember that night, but nothing came to him and he felt annoyed by that fact. The waitress left, and Nino sighed dropping his face down onto the table.

“I wish I could remember” He grumbled, and Satoshi smiled reaching out with his foot lightly touching his leg and rubbing him gently.

“It’s okay, we can always make new memories, after you’ve had the baby, if you would like to...”

“That would be nice, though a little harder with the baby” Nino pointed out his hand dropping to his stomach and feeling the memory stick against his palm. A flush of guilt through his insides reminded him that he had barely thought about what his mother had wanted to tell him.

“Harder, but not impossible. There are childminders and babysitters for a reason, Kazunari, I’m not saying that we shall leave them alone each night but sometimes I’m positive that we will need a break” Satoshi told him gently and Nino felt his lips twitch into a smile at the way Satoshi assumed that they would be raising the child together now. Maybe he had always hoped that that would be the case.

“That sounds like a plan” Nino agreed as the waitress returned with a tray of drinks. She smiled as she sat them down and Nino flushed looking awkwardly at the table until she left. Satoshi gave a chuckle and sipped at the drink slowly. Nino did the same glad when their food arrived as his stomach was starting to rumble. The hot pot tasted amazing well worth the money they charged. “So, do you think I should look at the memory card?”

“I think that there was obviously something that she wanted to tell you, I think that this was her way of being with you when she couldn’t be physically with you.” Satoshi hummed in agreement and Nino nodded slowly taking some of the beef into his mouth and chewing slowly. It was the kind of thing that his mother would do. She had often said that the worst thing about dying was how quick it was and how she wished she had more time to tell him things. “It will be okay, I will be with you if you still want me to”

“I do, like I said you are probably the only person I know that understands. I want to see here and yet…I’m terrified”

“I do understand” Satoshi agreed, and Nino was happy when his hand came out again and captured his. “I’m pleased that you can trust me like this. I never expected it to happen…”

“Me neither, but I’m glad. You’re gonna give somebody a heart attack though, if you keep being nice” Nino chuckled remembering the faces of the six members of staff and Satoshi let out the laugh that Nino knew he really liked and suddenly he felt warm all over. He could remember the heat of the man from the office and he wished that they didn’t have to go back in and they could just go home.

“…Kazu…I wanted to wait…But…Ahem…Will you…”

“Will you come back to Masaki’s with me?” Nino asked slowly his ears burning as he couldn’t bring himself to look at the man. “I…Can’t wait until tonight…”

I love this chapter! Thank you so much for writing this to explain about the birthday night. So Satoshi didn’t pay Nino for sex and they did a lot before heading home.
