“You and Sho are getting married?” Kazu asked softly looking up at the beautiful man who was positively glowing when he ended the call with his uncle. He hadn’t meant to over hear what Masaki was saying but it was almost impossible not to when Masaki was getting increasingly more excited with each passing second. Masaki beamed brightly and nodded his cheeks flushing a bright and happy pink.

“Yup! Eh! I better phone my mum, if I do it without telling her first she will positively flip” Masaki sighed and Kazu smiled truly happy for his uncle and Sho, but he couldn’t help but think that this sudden marriage had something to do with him. “I feel so happy! I never thought that Sho-chan would want to stay with somebody like me” Masaki dropped down into his chair his face almost split in two with the large smile he had on his face. “I can’t stop smiling!”

“Why? Why wouldn’t uncle Sho want to be with you?” Kazu asked looking confused. He hadn’t seen them together for very long but from what he had seen Sho was completely obsessed with Masaki and he could understand why. “You are perfect for each other!”

“Thank-you, but Sho-chan is Sho-chan I’m just me...I never thought that I would deserve somebody like Sho-chan...” Kazu was confused by the self-doubt that Masaki was suddenly showing. Masaki had always come across as very self-confident to see im anything but was strange and unsettling. “But, Sho-chan wants to marry me so that makes me the happiest that I’ve ever been! Though the day we can officially make you a Sakurai will make me just as happy” As always Masaki seemed to recover fairly quickly, and he was once again smiling happily. Kazu wondered at his ability to shake himself so quickly out of his thoughts. He wished he were able to do that and he hoped that Masaki would teach him in time.

“Congratulations, Masaki-san” Satoshi smiled and Kazu nodded slowly playing around with the wrapper around his burger. They ate for a few moments in silence and then Satoshi spoke again asking the question that Kazu himself was thinking “Wouldn’t you have wanted a proper proposal?”

“Sho-chan, isn’t an emotional man. I wear my heart on my sleeve enough for the both of us, so I knew that I would never have a ‘proper romantic’ proposal. But I don’t mind, ne! Sho-chan asked me to marry him and that is enough for me” Masaki answered his answer more than Kazu could really understand but he saw that Satoshi was nodding along and he did the same. “Would you like any ice cream before we go?”

“Yes, please!” Satoshi answered and slowly Kazu did the same. He didn’t like to ask for things, but he really did want to have some ice cream, so he was glad that Satoshi had answered for them. Masaki nodded again and finished the last of his fries before getting up and heading off to the counter. “Your uncles are both good people!”

“Masaki made Uncle Sho a lot softer” Kazu agreed feeling guilty for even thinking that. As Masaki had said Sho was not an emotional man but he had always been a kind one. Always looking after him without question whenever his mother left him. “Uncle Sho always looked after me though and I always wanted to be with him more than my mum. Does that make me a bad person?”

“Nothing could ever make you a bad person, Kazu-kun! Your mother is the bad person! She doesn’t deserve you! Your uncles will love you enough to forget about her” Satoshi answered sagely shaking his head as he reached out and took his hand. For a moment Kazu froze expecting the touch to feel uncomfortable, but like when Masaki or Sho touched him, it was nice and warm though a little sweaty. Kazu flushed a little biting on his lip as he looked down at the hand covering his. Satoshi’s hands were already so much larger than his own and his fingers were longer curling around his with ease. “I will love you too!”

“Eh!” Kazu flushed brightly his cheeks burning with the force of the embarrassment that flooded through him at that statement. He tried to pull his hand back, but Satoshi continued to hold it smiling at the younger boy.

“I have always really liked, Nino-kun, and I will forever!” Satoshi announced leaving Kazu to blink and start with great surprise. Before he had moved in with Sho and Masaki had never spent time with Satoshi so how was it possible that the boy could love him? He struggled to free his hand again and this time he succeeded he dropped it down onto his lap with a clap against his thigh. “You don’t have to say anything or worry, Nino-chan! I will always look after you!”

“I’m back! You didn’t say which ice cream you got I my favourite” Masaki announced coming back to the table and putting down the ice creams. Kazu noticed that they were chocolate with salted caramel sauce with flakes of chocolate over the top. It looked nice and with a shaking hand, still confused over the statements from Satoshi, he picked up a spoon and dug it into the ice cream. Satoshi didn’t seem to have any of his concerns and was happily eating his own ice cream.

“This is my favourite too, Masaki-san!” He hummed, and Masaki let out a little happy noise of agreement his cheeks puffed out with his own ice cream. Kazu slowly ate the ice cream moaning with undisguised happiness at the taste.

“My mum makes a nice ice cream! We will have to ask her to make some when we go again this weekend!”

“We are still going this weekend?” Kazu asked hopefully reassured by the way Masaki nodded at him looking surprised that he was unsure.

“Yup! We are going horse riding again! You’re so good at it! We can ride on the beach again. I would ask you to come Satoshi-kun, but horse riding is mine and Kazu-kun’s thing to do together ne” Kazu gave a small, shy, smile glad that Masaki had said that. He did like Satoshi even if he was strange, but he wanted to spend time alone with Masaki.

“That’s okay! Me and my dad go fishing on Saturday’s!” Satoshi replied a little bit of ice cream escaping his mouth and dribbling down his chin and Kazu sighed rolling his eyes before picking up a napkin and holding it out to him. “Thank-you, Nino-chan! I can be clumsy ne”
