My Demon Boss and Other Annoyances part 47
Feb. 5th, 2018 10:32 am“…I…Don’t now…I heard…I heard something yesterday…” Nino muttered and then told Masaki most of the conversation that he had overheard yesterday morning. He left out everything regarding his friend and the auction and when he was finished Masaki’s eyes were wide and his mouth was open in a wide circle. “You don’t have to look so shocked…”
“How could I not? You are saying that Satoshi-san is in love with you! Has always been in love with you!” Masaki shouted, his voice so loud that it disturbed the two puppies closest to him, and Nino rolled his eyes slowly his ears burning a little. “So, what about you? What do you think of it?”
“I don’t know! He’s not the man I thought he was, and I do think I feel affection for him but…But affection isn’t love right?” Nino muttered knowing that he wasn’t making a whole lot of sense but the feelings inside of him didn’t make a whole load of sense right now. He wanted to forget the past and just focus on the now, but he couldn’t just get over the fact that Satoshi had treated him like garbage.
“Nino-chan, you don’t have to fall straight in love with him, you have nine months to fall in love with him. Just don’t let the past get in the way. Like you said he isn’t the person you thought he was so why don’t you think of them as two different people and see if you can just fall in love with this Satoshi-san” Masaki advised, and Nino let out a sigh the tension rolling away from his shoulders as he thought of Masaki’s simple reasoning deciding that it did actually make a whole lot of sense. His lips twisted into a smile and he moved forward carefully so he wouldn’t disturb the puppies too much and ruffled his friend’s hair. “What was that for?”
“For making something so complicated feel so small” Nino answered with a grin his heart feeling much more at ease. “Only you could do that”
“That’s because I’m a simple person. Hey, do you think that Sho-san named his cat after me?” Masaki asked sounding as confused as he was, and Nino nodded deciding that he could give his friend that much hope.
“I think he did, and I think that you are on his thoughts more than you would ever think, so don’t give up” He muttered looking forward to seeing the expression on Masaki’s face at the auction. A pleasant buzz in his mind Nino carefully handed over the pups to his friend and got to his feet. “Look after those, I’m going to make dinner. I’m sure Satoshi will be hungry when he gets back”
“Oooh! Domestic Nino-chan! I like it! I hope you’re going to wear an apron!”
“Shut up, Masa” Nino growled heading over to the luxurious kitchen and looking around. The cleaning lady hadn’t been around today, and Nino had the feeling that Satoshi had requested it to be that way. He was glad because he doubted that he wouldn’t have been able to handle her glares and snarls without Satoshi.
The kitchen was well stocked, and he imagined that Satoshi had somebody bring it up from the city. It was everything he could have hoped for and more and immediately he started planning what they would be having for dinner. Masaki was humming tunelessly in the background, but he continued to work on the meal. He made his mother’s favourite meal of warm stew with thick vegetables. It was soon bubbling away on the hob and he turned to look at the door as it opened.
Satoshi came in looking tired. His hair was in disarray with thick clumps of snow hanging from it here and there. His nose was red, and his cheeks were burnt a rosy red from the wind chill. He paused in the doorway tapping his boots against the rug and sniffing the air. Nino felt nervous as the man turned to look at him but he remembered what Masaki had said. The man gave a smile his head cocking to one side.
“You’re making food?” He asked slowly taking off his coat and shaking away the snow from the shoulders. Nino smiled and nodded swallowing down a lump from his throat. “It smells good”
“I hope it turns out to be. It was my mum’s favourite dish. Perfect for warming up in winter” He mumbled absently ignoring the way Masaki was babbling to the puppies. “You don’t mind?”
“No, not at all, it’s nice coming home and having a meal is amazing” Satoshi answered sounding almost as excited as a school boy. He slipped his feet into his slippers and then headed over to him and Nino was reminded that the man probably wouldn’t have had anyone making dinner for him. “It smells really good”
“Thanks…Do you have any potatoes. Rice is fine, but I think potatoes make it taste better…” Nino hummed aware that Satoshi had come and stood close beside him. His arm was brushing against his arm his fingers rubbing against his hand. It was such a stupidly small touch, but it was still one that had his heart fluttering around like the wing of a trapped bird.
“I think I do, they are in a bin over there” Satoshi answered pointing a finger to a grey bin tucked under the counter and Nino gave a nod. “Thank-you, Kazunari…”
“You don’t have to thank me, Satoshi, I was hungry, and I knew you would be” Nino shrugged bending over and taking out a few potatoes. “You should go get warm. I wasn’t expecting you back yet so it’s going to be a little longer…”
“That’s fine, I will make a drink. Would you like one, Masaki?”
