krystalkatzficz“I think we should start heading home” Satoshi said softly nodding to the windows here the snow was falling fast. Nino gave a nod and went to fetch his clothes and charger. It didn’t take long, and he was soon back in the living room surprised to see that Masaki was also packing a bag.
“Satoshi-san asked me to come and stay while the storm is heavy!” Masaki said noting the look on Nino’s face and Nino looked to his boss who confirmed it with a smile and a nod stroking the head of Masaki’s dog.
“I have a meeting tomorrow that I can’t afford to cancel but unless the storm fades over the night the office will remained closed. With the puppies and the knock today, I thought you would rather have your friend with you” The man hummed and although Nino was a little angry at him for being so controlling he knew that the thought behind it was sincere. It would be nice to have Masaki with him and he knew Masaki would love to see the house and the surrounding forests.
“I would, I guess, I mean…Yeah…You should see his house, Masa, it’s amazing…” Nino enthused happily cramming his belongings into the military style bag that Masaki had gotten from Sho for a birthday. Most bosses would get their PA’s something informal and impersonal, but Sho broke that mould. Masaki’s gifts had always been brought because Sho knew he would like them. The bag was an inside joke as Sho’s private clothes were almost all in camouflage style. As Satoshi had said that morning, they already acted like a married couple.
“I know! You told me about it before!” Masaki cried happily going to the kitchenette and pulling out tins of dog and cat food. Nino flushed a little unable to bring himself to look at Satoshi. After their encounter on the man’s birthday Nino had done a lot of ranting and raving, calling the man all the names under the sun, but it had always ended with him grudgingly admitting that his house was something amazing. Masaki had longed to know more about it and Nino had described it in detail. For a while he thought that maybe he was over exaggerating it but now he knew he hadn’t done it justice. “Ne! Satoshi-san, do you own the lake?”
“Yes, though it’s under a conservation programme as well. I don’t understand all of the details but there is a specific kind of plankton in the lake that is rare” Satoshi answered, and Nino’s mind boggled at how anyone could own their own lake. He knew that Yama heights was successful, but it was only just dawning on him how successful. Masaki let out a loud wolf whistle asking the question that was on the tip of Nino’s tongue;
“How do you become so rich you own your own lake?”
“Have a burning need to prove yourself better than your parents” Satoshi answered drily, It was meant to be a joke, Nino was sure of that, but given all he knew about his boss’s parents Nino was once again struck with how lonely that sounded. His relationship with his mother had been amazing. She had been his best friend for as long as she was alive. They had talked about everything and anything and she had always done her best to support him. If had said that he wanted to be the first man on Mars she would have done everything in his power to make that dream a reality, even if it was only making the front room of their apartment look like Mars.
She had done something like that before when he had longed for a paddling pool. They’d had no garden for a paddling pool and he had known that it was a dream that would never happen but when he had gotten home from school the entire living room had been decorated in green to look like grass and in the centre of it all had been a paddling pool. “Sorry, I made it uncomfortable…”
“It’s not your fault…I don’t know your parents and don’t want to judge them without knowing but from what little you’ve told…I hope you have realised that you don’t need to prove yourself, you’re already a million and one times better than they are…” Nino whispered knowing that it wasn’t a profound thing to say but all his words had died in his throat. “I mean…They don’t sound like stellar people, the way they treated your sister…And you…I haven’t liked you until recently, but I have always respected you which is more than I can say about your parents”
“Thank-you, Kazunari…That means a lot…” Satoshi murmured, and Nino allowed himself to glance upwards once before nodding, knowing that his cheeks would be stained crimson. He tried to pull himself out of his embarrassment by clearing his throat and smoothing down his t-shirt, but it did nothing to ease the strange sickly nervous feeling he was feeling inside his chest”
“Right…Ahem…Shall we get going then? It’s quite a drive to your house…Masaki, you’re in the back with your pests” Nino growled fighting through his embarrassment by acting as professional as ever. He marched to the door and yanked it open wondering why he was feeling more embarrassed now than earlier when Satoshi had been playing with his stomach. He still couldn’t explain why that had felt so natural and soothing.
“Aye-aye! Nino-chan!” Masaki hummed surprisingly in a good mood even though he had been shocked about the name of Sho’s cat. He hadn’t even mentioned it again since, but Nino was sure that once they were alone he would have his ear chewed off about it. Nino might have said something about it himself, but Satoshi moved passed him through the door and Nino noticed that there was a sort of confused but hopeful expression in the man’s eyes and he wondered if he had cruelly given him hope. He didn’t know what his own feelings were yet.
They marched in single file down the stairs with Satoshi leading in case Nino fell and once more Nino felt a pang of happiness at how considerate he was to him. He would have though it was all for the sake of the baby but the conversation he had overheard led him to believe that it was for his own sake as well and he was looking forward to the auction and seeing if Satoshi won him.
