krystalkatzficz“It was a nasty bump and there will be some bruising around your stomach, but I think that the baby should be fine” The man answered softly, moving back and pulling down Nino’s top of his stomach. “However, if you feel that there is any sharp pain in your lower abdomen then I want you to go straight to the hospital. Do you understand me?”
“Yes, thank-you doctor. You’re sure that it will be, okay?” Nino asked again as Satoshi squeezed his hand his thumb moving over his knuckles. His thumb was so very soft against his skin and Nino found it comforting even if his heart was beating all too quickly against his ribs. The doctor smiled and straightened his back.
“I believe so. The womb is a highly protected space, I wouldn’t suggest taking cannonballs to it, but I do believe that it will fine” He said again with a little more certainty and Nino nodded letting out a breath of relief. Nino smiled turning to look at Satoshi who had been stony silent throughout. His face softened ever so slightly his mouth twisting into a soft smile. “I take it that you have decided what you want to do with the baby?”
“I have, I mean…We…We’ve decided to keep the baby” Nino answered his cheeks turning red as he looked down at the basket of puppies. They had started yapping a few minutes ago and Masaki had taken it upon himself to make up their bottles. He was a little annoyed at the fact his friend knew more of how to look after the puppies than he did but Masaki had gently told him that he’d had to help when he was younger when his grandmother’s pet cat hadn’t been able to feed their own kittens. Nino picked up two of the puppies and handed one over to Satoshi who took a bottle and began to feed the hungry little pup. Nino watched what he was doing and then copied slowly running the teat of the bottle against the puppy’s lips encouraging it to open its mouth and take the bottle.
The vet had warned them that the puppy with the white tip would be the one that would require more looking after and coaxing. It let out a small whimper and then opened its little mouth slowly. Its tongue waggled and then it latched on sucking slowly milk collecting around his lips. The doctor let out a laugh putting away his equipment and closing his bag.
“You don’t do much by halves, do you? Babies and puppies. How old?” He asked reaching out to scratch the one in Nino’s hands on the head. Nino smiled when the little pup wiggled a little more furiously against his hands.
“Only around two weeks. We found them in the snow this morning”
“I see, now they are safe and sound with you. So, now you have decided you’re going to keep the baby I will need to make an appointment for you at the hospital. With all pregnancies there are checks that we will need to make. I’m also requesting a complete check of your birthing canal” Nino sucked in a hiss of birth his eyes widening at that horrified by the idea of such an examination. The doctor’s smile was full of understanding as he started typing on a small computer about the same size an iPad mini. “It sounds far more intrusive than it is but as you said that you had a bearer check as a child and was found to be negative I need to make sure that everything is fully formed. It will only last for around ten to fifteen minutes”
“Um…Okay…And Satoshi…Um…He…He can stay right?” Nino asked feeling awkward for asking but there was no way he was going to have his legs up in the air surrounded by strangers poking at him. Satoshi squeezed his hand and gave him a look that clearly stated he would be staying regardless of what the doctor said but thankfully the doctor nodded with a hum.
“Of course, though you will have to state that he is your next of kin of the paperwork”
“Sometimes I feel that bearer is another word for slave” Nino grumbled feeling as though all his independence was slipping away from him since he had gotten pregnant. Of course, it wasn’t that bad, but it just felt that way given how independent he had always been. “Okay, sensei, when will we be going?”
“I’ve managed to get you in for next Thursday afternoon, if that is convenient?” The doctor asked, and Nino sighed mentally flipping through his mental journal trying to figure out if Satoshi had any meetings or arrangements.
“There isn’t anything work related…”
“I don’t have anything personal. That appointment will be fine” Satoshi answered swiftly, and Nino nodded slowly, and the doctor typed on the iPad a little more before taking out a little square card from his pocket and handing it over to him. The time was scrawled on the front side and Nino gave a long steady sigh placing it carefully on to the table. The puppy had drunk, its fill and Nino slowly stimulated to poop into a tissue and then rubbed its back gently with his fingertips. Once finished it fell to sleep and carefully Nino put it back into the basket it with the rest. It let out a small yip but settled down when another of the pups gummed its ear.
“Very well, unless there are any more emergencies, which I hope there won’t be, I will see you both next week. Sadly, you can’t bring the puppies, but its good practice for hiring babysitters” the doctor joked as he pulled on his thick overcoat and hat.
“I will babysit!” Masaki cried, and Nino chuckled, he’d already known that Masaki would look after the puppies. There was no question of that, the man was too soft hearted for anything else, and he was incredibly thankful.
“Then I think you’re all set. I will leave you alone to enjoy the rest of your day. Good afternoon” The doctor bowed and then marched to the door with Masaki trailing after saying his thank-you while Satoshi lifted Nino’s top again and gently stroked the belly. Nino smiled and closed his eyes leaning back against the sofa deciding that he enjoyed the attention quite a lot.
