My Demon Boss and Other Annoyances part 39

 “They are really wiggling now” Nino giggled with delight as the puppies wiggled against him. They had eagerly eaten the formula and had gone to the toilet when they had stimulated their bottoms. He was amazed at how skilled Satoshi was in that department. They were alike in colouring. They were mostly black with whit spots above their eyes and on their chins. One had a single white paw on his back foot, while the another had a brown ear, the third’s tail was almost completely brown with a singular white spot on the tip. They were all cute in their own ways. He had felt completely lost but Ohno had gently shown him what to do. The puppies were crawling around on their heated blanket and he realised that they were probably older than he had thought when they were in the woods. “They are going to be okay?”

“I think that they have a better chance than I first thought but I wouldn’t like to say anything that might get your hopes up before we get them checked out by the vet” Satoshi answered picking up the first of the pups as it tried to drag itself off the blanket. “Not yet, little one, the floor is far too cold for you to be scrambling about on it”

“She’s already a bold one” Nino chuckled stroking the top of the little head. The puppy moved against his fingers and he chuckled again as she nibbled at his finger with her gummy mouth.

“Like you” Satoshi hummed leaning into him and nudging him with his arm. Nino smile and nudged him back before rolling onto his side and moving closer to the puppies. He had figured out quickly enough that they liked having his body near and that it was easiest to do that on the floor. Strangely Satoshi copied him on the other side creating a little circle around the puppies. The action had a calming effect on them and they all settled down in a heap falling quickly to sleep.

“You do this a lot? Do you ever get used to the feeling?”

“I don’t think so. It’s an amazing feeling” Satoshi answered with a shake of the head looking back at the puppies his hand moving over their thin backs. They were so very tiny that his hand appeared to be huge against them, but his touch was gentle, and Nino remembered the way the hand had moved over his body. His cheeks flushed brightly, and he bit on the inside of his cheek to force the memory to scatter and he turned his attention back to the puppies. “The snow has been stopped these last three hours and the road sweepers have been out, so I’ll call the vet and we can take them for a check up after lunch”

“Sounds good” Nino hummed though inside he was nervous. The puppies looked fine, but they didn’t know if there was anything wrong inside and he really didn’t know how he would cope if one of them had to be put to sleep. He hadn’t expected to be put under the spell quite so quickly but like with all the dogs and cats he had taken in as a child his heart was already swayed. “They’ll be okay, they are little fighters”

“Yup, very much so” Satoshi agreed before taking Nino’s hand in his and squeezing his fingers tightly. “If anything is wrong, know that we did our best, Kazunari”

“I know” Nino smiled his own thumb moving over the fingers before turning it over and allowing Satoshi to run his fingers up and down his palm. It was intimate and almost overwhelming, but he very much enjoyed it. “But it doesn’t matter…They are goin…”

“Ohno-san, I’ve finished the cleaning” The cleaner cut in almost sharply and Nino blinked in surprise having thought she was already gone. Satoshi’s face, which had been carefree a moment ago, became hard and almost unfeeling as he turned to look at her. “Is there anything else that I can do for you?”

“No, thank-you” Satoshi answered with his voice sounding almost like the old demon boss he was used to. It was sharp and to the point and the woman blinked with understanding drawing herself up to her full, and rather impressive, height. She wasn’t much older than Satoshi was though she did look a little brow beaten and hunched around the shoulders and Nino suspected that she had had plans of being Mrs Ohno. “Thank-you for all your hard work. Kazunari, I think it’s time that I feed you and our baby”

“I doubt the baby is eating much as it’s only the size of a pea” Nino chuckled wondering if his boss had purposely mentioned the pregnancy to try and drive the point home to the woman. It seemed likely because her eyes bulged, and her mouth fell open. Nino was confused, if Satoshi brought men back here all the time, why would she assume that she would be his wife.

“Still I’ve been listening to your stomach rumbling for the last half an hour, so you can get up and let the puppies sleep while I feed you” Satoshi reached down and grabbed his hands pulling him to his feet. There was a muffled sound from the cleaner, but Nino ignored it too focused on how near his body was to Satoshi and how much he was enjoying his time with him. It was so strange, so hard to compare this man and the man that had tormented him for the last 7 months of his life. “Come on, Minx”

“Coming” Nino followed his boss while the cleaner packed away her equipment and left swiftly through the front door shooting him a hot glare as she did so and Nino sighed muttering sheepishly “I don’t think your cleaner likes me very much”

“She has often thought of herself as mistress of the house” Satoshi grumbled going to the kitchen and preparing to make them something to eat. Nino was instructed to sit on the chair. He didn’t know if Satoshi was a good cook or not, but he knew his way around the kitchen and Nino realised that once again he was being granted a rare look at a different side to his boss. “Don’t let her get to you. I’m not interested in women, never have been…”

“Me neither but I don’t like people glaring at me”

“If she becomes too overwhelming tell me and I will have her removed. I don’t want you to feel uncomfortable here” Satoshi growled as he began to chop onions on a board and Nino shook his head smiling at the man as he said;

“I don’t…In fact…I’m feeling very comfortable, I haven’t enjoyed myself this much in a long time…”

“Rescuing puppies agrees with you…”

“You being nice agrees with me. I like this side of you”
