My Demon Boss and Other Annoyances part 30
Jan. 9th, 2018 11:10 am“I don’t know, I will know when I find it” He shrugged poking at the menu with his forefinger almost uncomfortable with the way Ohno’s head tilted to one side and his stare intensified.
“Then how could you be sure that Matsumoto-san couldn’t have fulfilled that role?”
“I just knew. There was a feeling, in the pit of my stomach” He muttered before letting out a huff and asking; “Why are you so interested?”
“I was merely trying to understand how you could say you wouldn’t be happy when you didn’t try”
“He wasn’t my type. I don’t why you’re so hung up on Jun…” Nino growled wishing that he had enough courage to get up and leave, though he couldn’t imagine causing a scene like that in such a nice place. “Are you going to start questioning my relationship with Masaki next?”
“There’s no need, its plain to see that Aiba is devoted to Sho. Sadly; if nothing changes, it is a relationship that is doomed to failure…” Ohno’s voice was ominous and Nino immediately felt his protective heckles lifting at the back of his neck. Angry words came to his tongue, but he bit most of them down and simply hissed;
“Because Masaki isn’t good enough?”
“Not all, I don’t think I’ve met anyone more suited to my friend than yours however, Sho will never act on what it is he is feeling for your friend as he feels he is too much in a position of power. One could easily say that he used his influence…” Ohno allowed his voice to trail off, confident that his meaning had been achieved and Nino understood loud and clear. It was a legitimate reason for both men to fear. They were influential in more than business and any hint of scandal could damage them.
“I’m surprised that you’re so calm about the pregnancy…Won’t that cause a scandal?”
“It crossed my mind and I am prepared to deal with it. However, I am convinced that the result will be worth any inconvenience caused…” Ohno’s eyes moved away from his face to rest on the table that was covering his stomach and Nino was once again struck on how much the man seemed to want the child. He tried his best to imagine him with a baby resting upon one shoulder with sick-up down his back, but it was impossible. Satoshi was too straight laced for something like that, it was more likely that he would hire staff to attend to the needs and demands that came with a child.
“You…You really want this baby…Don’t you?”
“I do”
“Having an heir is very important to you then?”
“…Isn’t it for everyone? Isn’t it the normal thing to desire? I have wealth and property with no-one to take over after I’m dead. A child secures my piece of mind” Ohno’s voice was clinical now and Nino gave a nod. It was the kind of answer that he would expect but it gave him chills thinking about it.
“What if you should happen to fall in love? Wouldn’t your spouse want your child with them to be your heir? Wouldn’t they be put out that your bastard would get everything?” Nino felt bad about speaking so cruelly of his own child, but it was something that he was genuinely curious about.
“It is unlikely that I should ever marry and even if I do it is even less likely that I will meet another barer, so our child’s position will be quite safe” Ohno gave a shrug and Nino frowned chewing on the corner of his lip. It was true that men like him were few and far between and he was glad that the conversation died with the arrival of the host who had led them to their table when they had arrived.
“Are you ready to order sirs, or would you like some more time?” The man asked with a polite and professional smile taking out an electronic note pad from his shirt pocket and Nino tried to quickly read the entirety of the menu in a minute. It wouldn’t be possible, and he stumbled awkwardly on the names of dishes that he had never heard of and started to break out into a cold sweat at the prices next to the names.
“A little more time, please, though I would be happy if you sent out two non-alcoholic ginger wines out” Ohno smiled confidently and the man nodded and left without another word and Nino sighed slowly peering over at his boss.
“Two?”
“It wouldn’t be fair of me to drink while you can’t, and I read that ginger was good for sickness” The answer was said easily but Nino blinked once dramatically slowly in surprise wondering when the man had had time to read about pregnancies and then he realised that he had probably discovered that information when with his sister when she had been undergoing treatment. Nino knew that he and his mum had tried many things to stop her from being ill. “Did you want something else?”
“No, the wine is fine…What do you suggest I should have?” Nino asked feeling ill equipped to make a choice from a menu he could barely read. It might have been a Chinese restaurant, but the dishes seemed to be a cut above what he and Masaki normally had to treat themselves. Ohno said nothing as he picked up the menu on his side and started looking through it and Nino sighed watching him as he tried to work out if the night was going okay or not. At the very least it had to be a good sign that he hadn’t felt like stabbing the man yet.
