My Demon Boss and Other Annoyances part 28

 “So, you’re going on a date with Ohno-san?” Masaki giggled sitting in the middle of the bed stroking his cat and scratching it behind his ears. Nino was currently buried in the wardrobe trying to find something suitable for his dinner with Ohno. He wished he hadn’t said anything to his friend as Masaki had been teasing about him all day. He frowned and chewed on his lip studying a blue shirt.

“It’s not a date, just dinner, help me pick something to wear. Is this okay?”

“Too plain, and too big…” Masaki shook his head and Nino gave a sigh tossing the shirt into the pile on the left which was made up of clothes his friend had rejected. “If it isn’t a date why are you putting so much effort into finding something to wear?”

“Because I don’t want to embarrass myself, I know I should have asked what kind of restaurant it was” He growled picking up a mint green top which had a happy panda on the front who was eating a bamboo shaft. He immediately tossed it into the rejected pile and gave a growl sitting back on his legs and looking at his own clothes. It wasn’t a very big pile, he had never been interested in clothes and had mostly gotten by on what people gave him as gifts. Masaki was always good for buying t-shirts, but they were mostly character based and he looked at the shirt and jumper set his mother had brought him for his last birthday. He had never worn it, never even taken it out of the wrapping, but now he supposed that it was the only thing he could wear and not bring shame to himself. “This will do right?”

“Yup, I suggested that at the start” Masaki rolled his eyes and Nino stuck out his tongue looking at the trousers he had brought for a suit but had found to be too tight and figure hugging for work in the office. They were jet black and clung to his bum and thighs. “They will look good with the ash grey of the jumper”

“Okay, I guess it will have to do” Nino chewed hard on his lower lip and then looked at his friend who had turned the cat onto his back playing with his stomach. Most cats would have gotten fed up and attacked by now but not Masaki’s cat. The silly thing lay there and allowed it to happen. “Masaki…”

“What?”

“Um, nothing…I’ll go shower and take my pills before Ohno gets here” He gathered the clothes up into his hands and scurried into the bathroom. It was cluttered with clothe horses and other things Masaki kept stuffed in there as extra storage. Nino closed the door and rested his back against it looking at the jumper and the shirt remembering the dream about his mum. It had made no sense whatsoever, but it had been nice to see his mother again, even if it had just been a dream, but now he felt a bitter tang in the back of his throat wondering what she would have thought about his pregnancy or his attitude to it. He didn’t want the baby, he wasn’t ready for that kind of thing, but he knew that his mother would have probably clipped him hard around the ear for even thinking that.

He tossed his clean clothes onto the clothes horse and then pulled off the shirt and jugging bottoms that he was currently wearing. Once naked he pressed his hand to his stomach while looking at his reflection in the mirror on the side. Hissing in frustration he dropped his hand back down and almost angrily switched on the shower head. Water raced out and he stepped under the spray rubbing his hair with hands quickly to try and smooth out the frustration he was feeling.

Water washed over his eyes and mouth and he allowed his mind to go back to what he had heard in Ohno’s office. He had been right about one thing, Ohno did take whores to his bed and he had tried to pay him for their night together. It made him angry, but he allowed it to pass over him deciding that there was no point in worrying about it now. It had been a month since then and they had more important things to worry about. His mind was stuck on what Sho had said about it being a hard couple of years for Ohno. It had been softly said, almost as though Sho had known that it would upset his friend and he was reluctant to do so. Nino was a puzzle solver, he always had been, which was why he enjoyed the challenge of short hand and now he was being presented with a much bigger puzzle.

Scrubbing his hair with some soap he tilted his head to one side listening to Masaki singing in the next room. He wasn’t sure how, but his friend had perked up since getting home and Nino wished that he could have his friend’s ability to be so joyful in the face of trouble. He hoped that Masaki and Sho would sit and work it all out eventually, though he wasn’t sure how that would be.

“Nino, you’ve got half an hour before Ohno-san is here and you know that he’s never late” Masaki called through the door and Nino groaned finishing his hair before moving on to the rest of his body and then got out of the shower grabbing a brown towel from the side and vigorously rubbing his body. He didn’t know why but he was feeling incredibly nervous about the not date with Ohno. He had never imagined doing something so intimate with his boss. Okay, they had slept together, and were having a baby, and they had slept with each other the night before, but this felt even more intimate and he felt sick with nerves.

Drying his body, he pulled on the clothes he had picked out and then studied his reflection in the mirror again. His face was pale, which ordinarily wouldn’t bother him as he was naturally pale, but this was completely different. He frowned and pinched his cheeks trying to get a little more colour in his cheeks and then headed out almost running into Ohno who was just coming in through the front door. He bit his lip again and bobbed his head feeling incredibly nervous under the smile the man gave him.

“Kazunari, good evening. You look very nice” Ohno told him his eyes moving slowly over his body and Nino allowed himself to do the same. Ohno was dressed in another suit, though this was more casual than the ones he wore in the office. It was perfectly tailored to his body though and Nino was sure he could see the muscles through the soft fabric.

“Um…Thank-Thank-you…You too…”

“Thank-you, Kazunari, shall we go?”
