My Demon Boss and Other Annoyances part 7

 “Very well, I accept your resignation from today you may start to work out your six weeks’ notice period” Ohno informed him calmly barely looking at the letter Nino had slipped onto his desk a few moments before and Nino could easily admit that his heart landed somewhere by his knees. It had taken every ounce of courage he had to walk into the office that morning and he was almost positive that every single set of eyes in the place were on him, but he had his held high and his back straight. Admittedly his neck was covered in a thick blend of concealer and setting powder to cover up the ugly love bites but, even he had to admit, that from far away they weren’t that noticeable, and he was often wearing high shirt collars anyway, but he knew that the rumour had spread like wild fire.

If he had expected Ohno to be awkward around him he would have been wrong. The CEO was the same arrogant jerk he always was, in fact, Nino would even venture to say that he was worse than ever. It was as though he was used to sleeping with those that worked for him and paying them for sex.

“Six weeks?” Nino repeated slowly knowing that he sounded confused but there was no other way for him to behave. He had told himself that it was only two weeks and that all would be well after that but now Ohno was crushing his dreams. “I thought that the notice period was two weeks”

“The notice period is the length as set by your employer. It’s in your contract, Ninomiya-san. As it happens the meeting you set up for me yesterday was a success but only if you are part of the team working with Matsumoto-san” Satoshi’s tone was flat and icy, so icy in fact that Nino was sure that the goose pimples on his arm were a direct result of the temperature shifting. Nino wasn’t at all surprised to hear that, Matsumoto Junichi had been a friend of his mother’s when they had been in college together and in turn Nino had been brought up alongside his son. Nino hadn’t seen either of the Matsumoto’s since the death of his mother and him quitting the firm to work for Ohno. At the time he had wanted to cut ties with everything that reminded him of his beloved mother but when you worked in the world of business there was only so much avoiding that you could do. “He was most insistent. It seems that you impressed in your former employer greatly, it seems”

“I work hard sir” Nino muttered not wanting to tell him about the personal connection between him and the Matsumoto’s. It wasn’t like it was a big one anyway neither of them were people he met on a social level after his mother died but it was nice to know that they remembered his name at least. Ohno’s eyes narrowed at his statement a muscle in his lower jaw pulsing as his eyes bored into his. It was hard to keep eye contact when all he wanted was to run and hide but he had never been one to back down from a fight and today was no different and he kept his eyes focused on Satoshi’s chocolate honey brown ones as his heart skipped a beat.

“I see. Whatever the truth of it is, the Matsumoto’s have insisted that you be on the team and you will be on the team for the initial set-up. Once you have worked through your notice then you are free to do as you like, and they can’t hold me responsible for you not being there”

“It’s fine, I’ve served them coffee before I can do it again” Nino shrugged his voice low as he struggled not to lose his temper knowing that Satoshi was implying that he had slept with Matsumoto. His cheeks warmed as he wondered if Ohno really thought he was that much of a whore. Okay, the night of his birthday party he may have drunkenly gotten into bed with his boss, but it wasn’t something he did regularly.

“You won’t be serving coffee” Ohno hummed surprising him completely out of his thoughts “You will be acting as my liaison with the Matsumoto’s. They have a strong idea of what they want from me and this company to make our partnership work and I want them to be happy so for the most part what they want goes but you are to report to me each morning and evening”

“I don’t understand” Nino admitted slowly glowering when Ohno clicked his tongue against the roof of his mouth in annoyance before growling almost under his breath;

“A state of mind I’m sure you find yourself in quite often, Ninomiya, to put it simply you will be their point of contact within the company you are to give me a list of their demands and I will go through and review them before you tell them either yes or no. It is a job that even somebody like you can perform adequately…”

“But what about my duties to you?”

“Aiba has proven himself quite efficient in managing both mine and Sho’s needs…” Ohno answered and Nino felt a pang of guilt towards his friend. It was what they had hoped to avoid with him working out his notice but now it didn’t matter. He did celebrate the fact that he wouldn’t have to put up with his boss for more than an hour or two each day. He couldn’t help wondering if that was the real reason Ohno was giving him the job of liaison. On one hand it seemed likely as he wouldn’t have to deal with him while on the other it would imply that he was perhaps more effected by their night together than he was letting on. “I’m sure I will survive not having you spill coffee into my lap. You will start your duties today. This afternoon in fact, you are to meet with the Matsumoto’s at the Crystal Lounge Hotel at 3”

“I…Um…The…The Crystal Lounge…?” Nino squeaked at the name of the most exclusive hotel in the city. It had been a dream of his and Masaki’s to have a meal in the restaurant there one day, but it was a dream that would never be fulfilled unless one of them won the lottery and since neither of them played it was impossible.

“Yes, I trust you know where it is?”

“Yes” Nino squeaked again nodding his head slowly as he tried to get his heartbeat under control thinking that maybe the last six weeks of working for his demon boss might not be as bad as he thought it would be. Though, he knew what the rumour mill would start to spread now, hopefully though it would never reach his boss’ ears.
