Aiba Masaki and the Lost City part 3

krystalkatzficz“You’re crazy! You know that this is crazy, right?” Nino hissed to his friend as Masaki prepared himself for going over the edge. As Masaki had predicted the storm had blown itself out in the night and there was nothing but blue skies about them. Not even a cloud dared to mar the vibrant blue and, triumphantly, Masaki had prepared himself for his climb. Tight fitted clothing was the norm for today and Nino was glad that he had gotten over his crush around the same time as he had met Satoshi. The taller guy smiled brightly flashing him a wink as he answered him with his breathy voice;
“Yup! Nino-chan has been telling me that since he first met me! But you’re still here so you’re just as crazy!” Nino was about to respond when Masaki kicked off and vanished over the side of the ravine causing a knee jerk reaction of fixing the crank in place and watching his friend as his made his way down the wall as nimbly as a spider on a web. Nino winced just a little as Masaki paused on a ledge that was slightly larger and looked out over the trees. Masaki had once told him that standing on a Mayan pyramid had been the greatest feeling in the world. Not because he had climbed it because of how small he felt and Nino got a sense of that feeling through the live feed. “You see it, Nino?”
“Yes” Nino breathed in an almost choked and squeaky voice before he cleared his throat while Masaki continued;
“Why do people think they are the most important thing? Nature, nature is amazing…”
“Yup, nature…Watch where you’re putting your feet”
“I am, this ridge is actually pretty stable, I think that there must have been a path here at some point. I can still see the tool marks”
“Why would somebody build something there?” Nino growled though he knew that it was pointless arguing with Masaki when he was in the zone. He gave a little on the line when he saw that Masaki was going to have to jump a little to the next ledge.
“Why do people build ugly sky scrapers? Because they can…Ah!”
“What? Happened? Masaki?”
“Nothing dangerous! Stop worrying, Nino-chan, you’ll lose your hair and Ohno-sensei won’t be able to pull it when he’s fucking you” Masaki quipped happily as though he wasn’t hanging on a cliff face with just his toes and fingertips. He had watched Masaki practice on the climbing walls around his mansion time and time again but knowing that he was doing it for real miles from anywhere made him wonder how he managed to stay focused.
“Who says that he would be fucking me?”
“Because you’re too lazy to top…Have you seen this?” Masaki asked and Nino bit down a retort to look at the screen again. It looked like a whole load of rock to him but Masaki seemed to be pretty excited about the whole thing and was running his fingers gently over it. “Evidence of manmade markings! I was right! Somebody was working up here…”
“Okay, how does that lead to the lost city?” Nino grumbled focusing on the computer and the crank at the same time his blood rushing though his ears as he watched the rock in front of him sway back and forth as Masaki rocked his body like a stick insect before jumping over and let out a huff of break through the headphones. Living it with Masaki was completely different to watching him and he thought that with the sound off it would make an awesome movie.
“Patience my young Padawan! All things come to those that wait” Masaki shot back taking a breathier which was the only sign that he had probably pulled something in his arm with that jump. Masaki had the body of an Olympic gymnast and he worked hard on it each day but he wasn’t a robot and it still hurt.
“So why aren’t we waiting in your nice comfortable mansion with hot coco?” Nino shot back rolling his eyes when Masaki chuckled and replied;
“Because fortune favours the bold!”
“You’re either a walking contradiction or a fortune cookie, either way you’re crazy”
“Yup…There’s a cave, sort of, I don’t know how big it is yet but there’s an opening” Masaki hummed switching on a light hooked on his chest. Nino saw it and knew what was coming next even if he didn’t want it to happen “I think I can fit through if I take off the line”
“What if there’s a drop inside?”
“I wasn’t going to jump into it! I do have some sense”
“Not enough” Nino hissed with feeling knowing that anybody with sense wouldn’t be doing this. “That’s why you need me! I’m the one with the brains”
“Yup, Nino is the best…Hmm keep the tension steady and don’t freak out if you don’t hear from me, the radio might lose the signal with the rocks” Masaki informed him and Nino sighed knowing that even if he begged it was no good. Masaki had a one track mind and never listened to anyone but himself when he was working, he just wished that he didn’t act like doing dangerous things was the same as working in a ball-point pen factory.
“Okay, you better be careful”
“I always am! Speak to you soon Nino-chan!” Masaki said as loudly as possible trying to mask the sound of the hook being undone on his belt. It didn’t work but he was grateful for the attempt. Watching the feed on the camera, Nino saw the mouth of the cave get closer and watched as Masaki dragged his tall body through. There didn’t seem to be too much space but that became a second thought to the crackling of the radio. As Masaki had predicted the signal was being lost and the screen from the camera was crackling and heading into static leaving Masaki all alone.
