How we began

“Sorry, I was rehearsing and then I had to take Nino home” Sho muttered knowing that it was the only explanation that he could give. His mother was the only one that had spoken, was the only one who was really looking at him even, but he could see his father standing in the background with his eyes on the floor.
“Sho, we told you if you want to continue with this foolish idea of stardom that you have then you have to take your studies seriously” His mother said in what people would mistake as a kind and soft voice. His mother was a deeply clever woman but she had never been a mother, not in the way that Nino’s mother was. Kazuko was what anime mothers tried to be, making sure that their children were happy and healthy and always trying her best even if sometimes it didn’t seem enough.
It was the first time that he had spent any time with Nino’s mum and he was surprised at how astute she was during the car ride over she had begged him to tell her what was wrong with her boy and Sho had genuinely wanted to tell her but more than anything else he knew that Nino needed a friend that he could trust and if Nino wasn’t ready to tell his mother what had been happening then he wasn’t the one that would tell in his place.
“I’ve done all of my homework and all of the reading for tomorrows lesson, I am taking my school work seriously” He told them both softly with a roll of his shoulders. Yes, he had gotten in a little later than he had been told but it wasn’t as though he had forgotten what was important to his parents. Even he knew that getting an education was more important than Johnny’s was. “I promise…”
“Who brought you home? We heard a car” His mother asked trying a different track and Sho stifled a sigh and gave a one shoulder shrug saying;
“It was Nino’s mum”
“Oh? And why couldn’t she pick up her own son?”
“She thought that our manager would be taking him home but something came up so I agreed. Ninomiya-san invited me in and gave me a drink and some food, I simply forgot how late it was” Sho answered knowing that it was lie. He had known exactly what the time was but he hadn’t cared, Nino was more important to him at that moment and he had seen the need in Nino’s eyes to have him stay. He didn’t know what Nino was thinking but he had a good idea and leaving early might have damaged the boy in ways that Sho couldn’t know about. His parents continued to glare at him, or rather his mother glared at him while his father continued to stare at the floor, and Sho groaned pulling on his fringe knowing what this was about.
When he had first entered Johnny’s, his father had said some hurtful things, much of them to do with how people would mistakenly assume that he was homosexual for messing around with boys. Accidentally in a fit of temper Sho had announced that it wouldn’t be a mistake. That he was gay. It wasn’t the way that he had wanted to come out to his parents and his father hadn’t yet managed to forgive him for it.
Sometimes it felt as though he was living in the past with his parents and he had suffered through an omiai in the hopes of getting them to forgive him. Of course, he realised now that the only way his parents would forgive him was if he stopped being gay and a Johnny’s.
“I’m going to bed”
“Sho, if you can’t make sure that you’re home at a reasonable time then…”
“It was just an accident, it won’t happen again” Politely Sho bowed his head in their direction and then turned on his heel making his way down the hall to his bedroom. His brother’s door was open and stopping in his steps he looked in at him smiling at the black head that was half buried under the blankets. One foot was poking out from under the cover and Sho moved to push it back in not wanting him to get cold. It was strange having a brother so much younger than himself, there were times when he didn’t feel like a brother and more like an extra parent. Although he loved Shu he had never been close to him as a brother.
“Late” Shu moaned rolling over to look at him through sleepy eyes and Sho nodded fluffing up his hair with his hands before bopping him on the nose. He couldn’t imagine what he would do if he had caught somebody touching his brother the way that he had Yamamoto and Nino. He did know that even with Nino there wasn’t a snowball’s chance in hell that he would let the man get away with it. If the upper management didn’t do their jobs and get rid he would quit and scream to any newspaper that would listen about the abuse that Johnny’s allowed. He would even say it was him that suffered it if that made it easier on his fragile bandmate.
“Sorry, you do your homework?” He asked and Shu gave a proud nod flashing his teeth as he pointed to the desk at the edge of his room. “I’ll check through it, you go back to sleep” He smiled ruffling the boy’s hair again before leaving the room and taking the books that Shu had pointed to. His father was in the hall as he passed on his way to his bedroom but he didn’t speak leaving Sho to feel as though he was leaving with a ghost. Determined not to leave it at that he said softly “Goodnight” and received a grunt in response. He brushed off the hurt he felt and headed into his bedroom knowing that tomorrow would be another long day.

Date: 2017-09-04 01:51 am (UTC)Despite the way his parents treated him, I'm glad he's a very caring brother to his siblings. :) He sees to it that they're well taken care of.
Nino's mom... like what Marion said, I liked how you portrayed her character. She gives her son the space he needs but is always there to rescue Nino whenever he asks for it.
