Please note that although it sounds sad, its meant to be a happy story in which Satoshi and Nino have a long and happy relationship
A salty tear slipped down a tanned weather-beaten cheek. Lines on the face told of a life, long and well lived blessed with more happiness than one man should have been entitled. His tears were not due to regret or sadness but because he was happy. His eyes, faded now with his advanced age and lacking the sight he once had, gazed out over the ocean as arms, strong and loving, wrapped firmly around his waist and he was pulled back against a chest.
“We should go inside” The voice of his lover whispered, sounding as youthful and musical as the day he had first heard it and Satoshi nodded slowly but made no attempt to move. His body was far too heavy and achy for that and he knew from the way his heart was clenching and filled with pain that he would not be surviving the night.
“We met here…” He said his face pressing into the warm body at his back and his lover chuckled the sound sounding wet and heavy as he replied;
“We did, you almost drowned”
“You saved me” Satoshi remembered with a smile his eyes closing as he listened to the sound of the ocean rolling on and off the shore line. It was the most perfect setting that he could imagine and he didn’t care that could feel himself slipping away. The man at his back let out a heavy sigh the arms tightening around him a little more as though he was trying to hold him in place to save him from the sad march of time. It was impossible, they both knew that, his lover might have been remarkable beyond words and all comprehension but even he couldn’t save him from the ravages of time. “I loved you from the moment I saw you”
“Me too…Me most” The younger man said determinedly his voice never having lost the bratty undertone it had held and Satoshi chuckled opening his eyes once more looking up into the face. The face that hadn’t aged a day since they had met. His stomach churned as he wondered how the coral brown eyes could still shine with so much love as they looked at his wrinkled face or how his hands were so steady as they brushed through his white hair. His kiss was almost painfully warm as his lips pressed to his forehead. “I still love you more”
“Not possible” Satoshi chuckled before giving a groan as his heart clenched tightly his arm tingling with the sensation he knew accompanied the heart attack that he was having. There was an almost broken sob torn from the mouth of his lover as the still young man whispered;
“Satoshi…Let me take you to the hospital…”
“This…This is your last day…I want to stay with you till the end…I won’t be here next time…” Satoshi huffed trying to speak through the pain that was flooding through his chest. He could have asked for anything more than this. His life had been perfect, filled with more happiness than he could have ever imagined even though he had only been allowed a month a year. A tear that wasn’t his own landed on his cheek and there was another press of lips to his forehead.
“I know” There was a strange note to Nino’s voice as he spoke and if Satoshi was thinking more clearly, he would have picked up on it but as it was he sighed happily nuzzling his face to his neck smiling as he thought of the life that he had lived, that they had lived together. 69 perfect years of love and happiness what more could a man ever ask for?
“…I’m not sad, Nino, I’ve happy that I was able to love you for as long as I could”
“We never had much time together…There was never enough time…” The regret in Nino’s voice was heard clear but Satoshi disagreed. A month a year was better than nothing and they had loved each other completely in that month that they could. His heart had sung with happiness each time his lover could come to the surface but now, now he was an old man and his time was over, all he could hope was that Nino wouldn’t get lonely without him.
“But the time we did was the most important, I wish I could live longer…You will be lonely…”
“You don’t have to worry about that, Satoshi, I promise, you just rest now, okay?” Nin whispered softly carefully rearranging his body against him so once again he could look out over the ocean. The well of the waves, the sound of the wind stole his breath as it did each time he saw it. “The ocean is calling to you…The waves are bidding you home…”
“I always wanted to go with you to the city beneath the sea…”
“And today you will, you will love it Satoshi, the colour of the coral is like nothing you could ever imagine…There is sea weed which glows brightly to guide our way…” Nino whispered and Satoshi let out a moan his breathing fading as his eyes closed and his shoulders sagged. “We can go anywhere you would like in the ocean, Satoshi, we shall swim together forever…Go to sleep now my love, I will wake you when it’s time for us to go…I love you”
“…I lov….”
*~*~*~*~*~* 69 Years earlier*~*~*~**~*~*
Ohno Satoshi stared approvingly at the ocean in front of him. It wasn’t perfectly blue like he had imagined thanks to the movies and pictures but the scent of it, the sound of it was magical. Something special was going to happen here, he knew it, he knew that he was right in leaving the city to make his way here, something special was going to happen, he knew it…
The end
