“Can you believe that we’re actually here?” Masaki asked his sister looking around everywhere all at once bubbling with so much excitement that he was almost bouncing up and down. Naturally after the flight and the bus ride Yuasa was looking less than pleased. There were bags under her eyes and her hair was a mess. Most of the group looked the same way and their guide had told them gently that it would be an easy day of just setting up tents and resting today before tomorrow. Their tent was an easy to pop up blue and yellow affair with barely enough room for them both to fit but Masaki wasn’t too bothered he couldn’t believe that he was here.
“I’ll believe it more when I’ve woken up. Can’t you go bother somebody else for a bit?” Yuasa grumbled slowly stretching out her back and Masaki sighed nodding slowly as he took a few venturing steps and almost crashed into a man sending him falling backwards so quickly that Masaki had barely any time to grab a hold of him and pull him back upright.
“I’m sorry! I didn’t mean to hit you are you okay!?” He gasped loudly ignoring his sister who muttered idiot under her breath. He looked at the man who was shorter than he was but appeared to be wearing clothes made for a much taller man. They were mostly all black though the lining of his jacket was a deep blood red, he scowled as he looked up at him his face pale and his hair which was long and almost raven black was flopping around over his eyes giving him a vulnerable almost idol like appearance. He had been holding a strange metal box with more buttons on than was practical and he growled tapping the side when it started to beep loudly.
“Stupid! Damn thing! Stop doing that!” The strange man huffed smacking it against his leg as the infuriatingly loud beeping grew louder. Guessing that he was a student volcanologist and his device something that measure seismic waves he let out a nervous breath saying;
“Have I broken something?”
“No, not you, it’s this stupid thing!” The younger man muttered waving around his strange device which started to grow even louder with its beeping, which was starting to sound as though “I can’t get it to stop beeping! It’s trying to tell me that it’s everything!”
“Um…Okay…” Masaki nodded along not wanting to say anything that might upset him as he appeared to be extremely excitable and maybe ever so slightly crazy. He shuffled backwards away from the strange little man in the oversized coat and hoodie. Even the trousers were too big meaning that he’d had to fold them up several times at the bottoms.
“It would be so much easier if I had the TARDIS but of course she had to go and get herself lost” The man muttered completely ignoring him as he headed back off still hitting the device against his leg as it continued to mutter in comprehensible thing. He shook his head and shot his sister a look and the woman gave a bored little shrug before settling herself down into the camping chair sipping at some water from a bottle. Masaki pulled a face and then head back through the group that would be their companions for the next two weeks.
He spent some time talking to a few of the families finding it impossible to forget about the strange man as he kept wandering back and forth holding up the device as though it was a phone trying to get reception. Most of the group started to make scoffing noises and sound as though they were two seconds away from laughing but Masaki began to listen to what he was saying and he was slowly starting to get the idea that the man really was a researcher though it seemed to be more like one of those old UFO people, people that had started to be quiet after the attacks on earth by the aliens.
“He said he’s a doctor” The mother of the family he was sitting with told him in a whisper her Japanese punctured by a thick American accent. There was a child on her lap with biscuit crumbs all over her lips. “He was on the same bus as us, only just made it, didn’t he?”
“Yeah, just came running into the bus station dressed like he’d mugged a clown, no luggage” Her husband agreed with a nod taking out a bottle of coke from one his cooler bags and handing it over to him. “Had a ticket though”
“I see…Guess he’s just excitable” Masaki shrugged looking over at the man who was leaning against a fence waving the device in the direction of a geyser that appeared to be letting out little puffs of smoke. “I wonder what he’s doing”

A/N: Hmmm, okay I know in show people couldn't remember the aliens cause of the cracks in time and space and whatever but to be honest I hate Moffat's writing and so yeah i'm making it up as I go….I hope that this is okay >.<
