Ninomiya ’Nino’ Kazunari ran his fingers through his impish hair style looking nervously at the message that was on his phone screen. It was just a few words Let’s meet at 12, okay? But they were enough to cause his heart to hammer against his chest. The sender was somebody that he had only spoken to through the power of the internet. They had met a year ago through a game where they had ended up in the same guild. Nino was the second in command to the guild master and as such he was often left to aid new players with minor quests and tasks to help boost their level. As he officially he was the chief designer and developer of the game he spent a great deal of time in the virtual world anyway so it wasn’t a big deal but Arashi2839 had been a difficult one.
For starters, the dude truly sucked at even the basic of in game tasks, dying at the first level bosses and somehow managing to enter areas for free for all so more experienced players would take advantage and secondly, he had been responsible for two raids on their guild house resulting in the near complete destruction of their resources. It had gotten so bad that the guild master had threatened to ask the player to leave.
Instead Nino had spent the next few real days talking with the player through the Personal Message service while personally rebuilding the stock. He wasn’t completely sure why he was putting so much work into it but he supposed it was because although the player sucked at the game he was earnest in his desire to play it and play it well. To have none gamers play the game had been the main goal he’d had in his mind when developing the game so he had taken his time and had taken him out on higher level quests and half beat the monsters allowing him the last blow so he could gain the experience.
Arashi2839 had to many real-life commitments to spend as much time as the virtual one so he’d asked for them to share personal emails so they could continue to speak even out of game and to his own surprise he had agreed. Arashi2839 had a dry sense of humour and a wicked tongue that had matched with his own. They’d had many long and rather spark filled conversations and Nino found himself talking more to the unnamed man than he had done anyone else for a long time.
The agreement to meet had both come out of the blue and had been completely expected. It was almost normal that given how much they had been speaking but Nino hadn’t been completely sure why anybody would want to meet him. Arashi2839 at least seemed interesting whereas he was a nerd that absolutely refused to grow up.
He swallowed again a bubble of nerves threatening to block off his ability to breathe correctly and he was sure that there was a tremor to his hands that hadn’t been there that morning. He checked his reflection for the umpteenth time noticing that his face, which was normally pale thanks to the bleaching of the computer screen, was even more pale causing his dark brown hair to seem completely black. The colour did bring out his eyes which he considered to be his best feature but it also left his lips to look almost as though he were wearing a pink lipstick which wasn’t the most attractive thing but there wasn’t anything that he could do about it.
Sighing just a little with apprehension he screwed his eyes closed knowing that he was so close to just sending a message and cancelling. He had no idea what he was doing, he wasn’t the kind of person that did this. He had no idea what Arashi2839 looked like and although that hadn’t mattered while they were talking on the internet and wouldn’t if he had the same personality in real-life he was worried that the man wouldn’t like him. It wasn’t as though he was a prize peach. His only truly nice feature was his bottom which was surprisingly round and firm even with the amount of time he spent on the computer chair.
“Fuck it, what’s there to lose?” He asked himself aloud knowing that if this went wrong then it wasn’t going to change much in his overly stimulating life. He grabbed his wallet and keys from the side and then shrugged on his coat and shoes his stomach flooding around with butterflies. It left him feeling sick but he was determined that he could do this and he headed down the spiral staircase to the ground floor.
His apartment block wasn’t the best in the world but it was affordable on a shoe string budget, which had been needed while he had been in college and now while he was still being paid peanuts even though the game that he had put most work into had taken off lining the pockets of everyone else. Even though it was somewhat safe and comfortable when left alone in his own flat it was always best not to linger too long in the hallways and foyer. There was a loud bang nearby and he quickened his steps keeping his eyes on the ground knowing from experience that it was better to have plausible deniability in case something happened. He refused to be trapped in the middle of a war between two families.
Eventually he was far enough away from his miserable apartment building that he felt that he could slow down. It didn’t do much to the nerves that were curling their way through his body but it did allow him some time to think about what he was about to embark on and the madness of it all. He hadn’t even requested a photo of his mystery date and that was probably the most stupid thing that he could have done though he was sure that he wouldn’t be able to count the times that he had been stupid on both hands.
His life was one big mistake if he thought about it. His parents had been not the type of people that somebody could rely on and although he had learnt that a long time ago he had discovered that he was still stupidly weak whenever it came to them and their promises of reconciliation. His mother was the worst always ringing him up in the dead of night wanting just to talk which normally ended up with her asking for a loan before the call ended. Although his father hadn’t had been as bold as his mouth he did tend to guilt trip him. More reason that he was forced to stay in the apartment he’d hated from the moment he had seen it.
He chewed on his lip, the pain bringing his thoughts away from the dark ones of his parents and ended up back on one of the earlier conversations that he’d had with Arashi2839. It had been a normal conversation, about the game and one of the tasks that they’d had to do. It had been a simple fetch and carry mission where you had to help a character get money to give to his parents. It had started off simply but increasingly became more difficult to complete the mission where the final stage was you ended up in a volcano trying to get a diamond. Arashi2839 had made a passing comment about the fact that the creator had issues with his parents and Nino had realised that that was true.
He had told the nameless man about his own parents and the man had told him to simply tell them to fuck off the next time that they had asked. Nino hadn’t actually been able to do that but it had been nice that somebody had been on his side. After that, they had shared a lot of private things, with Arashi2839 telling him about his grievances with his co-workers which sounded harsh and Nino was almost glad that he mostly worked by himself knowing that he wouldn’t be very good with confrontation.
He still had no idea what Arashi2839 did, he could imagine that it was hectic with the man rarely having set hours that he worked. He also seemed to have little to no personal life as he couldn’t remember when the last time he had been out had been.
Nino could understand that much, his last date, such as it was, had been so long ago that he couldn’t even remember the name of the man that he had been with. He could remember that it hadn’t been all that interesting with the man only interested in one thing.
It was what was nice about his relationship with Arashi2839. They talked, he told him things that he had never told another living soul. Of course, there had been things that he had kept hidden but mostly he had told him everything and more than worried that Arashi2839 wouldn’t be interested in him physically he was worried that he would lose his friend. His hand went to his pocket deciding that he would send a message and make his excuses.
Quickly though he realised that his pocket was empty and that he had left his phone at home. He groaned loudly now stopping in the middle of the path for a moment as he realised that he had no escape. He couldn’t just leave his mysterious date to wait without him. Chewing hard on his lip he carried on walking making his way to the subway.
He was just in time for the train and he quickly found himself a spot near the door. At this time of day, the carriage was empty, though there were a few women heading to the shopping district talking happily about a sale at a supermarket. Normally he would listen with interest hoping that he himself could get a deal but it wouldn’t look good to turn up to his date carrying a package of cheap meat. He couldn’t be bothered to find a seat knowing that he wouldn’t be on the train for long enough. He rested his head against the window and closed his eyes trying his best to breathe slowly and calmly but only managed to cause his heart to skip and jump a little more violently against his ribs.
He opened his eyes again when the train jerked into life and he was surprised to see an advert for his game. He barely recognised the actor that was dressed in the style of the black knight amour but he was attractive with a smile that could best be described as sexy. There was a mole on his lower lip and another against his eyebrow while his eyes were a burnt brown colour. The slogan was the main catchphrase of the game and Nino wondered if there was a TV spot where the actor would say the phrase. It would probably sound amusing coming from the pretty twisted lips.
As he stared at the poster he wondered yet again what his date would look like. He imagined him to be older, perhaps in middle-management which would somewhat explain his rather erratic times. He was probably soft around the middle with a failed marriage behind him. It wasn’t as off putting as it should have been, mostly because of the time they had spent talking online. It had helped to give him an image of the man without seeing him physically. He wondered if that was the same for Arashi2839 or if he saw him in person he would run. It was more likely that the man would stay for a drink or two before making his excuses. If he was lucky they would chat a little more online before his mysterious man faded out of his life for good.
The train screeched to a halt and Nino jerked forward before he could throw a hand out meaning that he fell face first into the poster across from him. His nose and mouth smacked against the actors and for some unknown reason he flushed brightly and pulled himself away his heart doing backflips.
One of the women near him chuckled lightly at his reaction causing his colour to grow even more brightly. The doors opened with a swoosh and he hurried out almost ping-ponging against travellers that were trying to board. There were mutters and grunts and Nino frantically apologised and then made his way out of the station. The sun was almost annoyingly bright as he made his way to the bar that Arashi2839 had suggested.
Nino had checked it out online and saw that although it was an out of the way place it was upmarket with security on the doors. It wasn’t the kind of place that he would have chosen to go but he supposed that it was because his date wanted a little privacy. Although he had looked up the address it still took him a little while to find and he was a little over the agreed meeting time.
As the website had said there was a security guard on the door and he looked him over several times before allowing him inside. Like with the train it was the wrong time of day for much in the way of the company and he wasn’t surprised that the bar was almost painfully empty. There was a well-dressed bar-keeper behind the circular bar with a few rich men in suits on stools. The chairs and tables were almost all empty except for one at the back.
The man had his back to him but Nino could see that his hair was short and somewhat spikey. His back was straight and his body slim wearing a blue jacket. Nino wasn’t completely convinced that this was his date but he was the only person that was there and slowly he tiptoed over and cleared his throat before whispering;
“Arashi-san?”
“Niji?” The man said turning around in his chair and Nino’s eyes bulged in surprise as he saw that his Arashi2839 was none other than the actor that was advertising his game. “Matsumoto Jun…I’m really pleased to finally meet you”

A/N: Eep, this is the longest thing I’ve written all in one go for a while! It is only a two-part story with the next part told from Jun’s POV…I really hope it wasn’t too boring >.<
