“Ninomiya and Ninomiya” A voice called and both Nino and Masaki looked up in a little confusion. The guard, Akamine, who Nino had come to know quite well in the last week, smiled and crooked his finger at them. “This way please” Nino was a little confused but both he and Masaki stood and walked to the door. “You shouldn’t look so worried, Lord Ohno and Mr Sakurai arranged for an extra few minutes with you together”

“That isn’t all that normal” Masaki pointed out with a frown on his delicate features and Nino supposed that his brother would know what was normal in this situation as he was the one that knew that was meant to happen with the courtship and sponsorship.

“No, but Lord Ohno has enough money to start making a lot of changes” Akamine informed them slowly leading them both down the long network of passageways, that Nino was growing increasingly more convinced that they had been purposely done so that the invaders would be far too confused to attack. He had always thought he had a quick mind but even he couldn’t map out the maze of passages and he was sure that a few of them would lead directly to cells beneath the wall. “I should warn you that there is also a doctor Monroe with them”

“And who is he?”

“She, I’m not sure but she’s looking forward to meeting Masaki” Akamine paused walking for a moment and then hummed with a guilty looking smile on his lips “She seems to be a little…Eccentric…”

“Eccentric? Do you mean insane?” Masaki asked his mouth forming an ‘O’ of surprise while his eyes widened to almost comedic proportions. Nino suspected, like himself, his brother was thinking of the elderly woman who had for a while lived with them when they were children. She had lost both her children and husband in the same mine collapse and it had snapped her mind completely. Not being able to work she had lost her home and had ended up on the street talking to herself. The whole tenement had taken it in turns to have her stay with them and were more than happy to share what they had with her. The longest she had stayed in one place was with the Ninomiya’s and Nino could remember the way she had screamed in the night and wandered around the apartment asking for her daughter. She had clawed at Masaki’s face one time and although it had broken their hearts to do it the only place that they could put her after that was the home run by the priests. She’d died a week later. Nino rolled his eyes, shaking away the imagine doubting that the doctor would be anything like Mrs Hayakawa had been. He nudged his brother in the arm with his elbow before correcting with a little;

“Rich people are eccentric, poor people are insane Masaki”

“…I didn’t mean she’s insane…Just…Rather excitable” Akamine hummed coming to a complete stop in front of a door which Nino thought looked the same as the one he had been in the week before but he couldn’t be sure. The door swung open and as before he was taken aback by the luxury that was surrounding him when he stepped inside. Unlike last week Satoshi was already inside with Sho and a woman with ratty looking pale brown hair and sallow skin. Her eyes behind thick glasses were bright and peering and she was rocking backwards and forwards on her heels and he wondered if he had been wrong and this woman was as bad as Mrs Hayakawa.

“Nino” Satoshi smiled coming forward and reaching out to him with one hand and Nino chewed on the corner of his own mouth pulling his eyes away the excitable doctor so he could look at the man that had managed to make an entire tenement happy with his gift last week. He could still clearly see the happy faces as he had given out the food parcels and more so the women that had been able to give their sick children medicine for the first time. He gave a genuine smile and accepted the hand his skin prickling just a little at the touch. “It’s really nice to see you again”

“And you”

“Is this him? The one with the black lung?”
