Ohno drove the car through the tradesmen’s entrance of the stately home hoping to avoid cameras and more headlines about the prince. Luckily they hadn’t been in the country for the worst of the media storm that had followed the prince’s kidnapping and the stories that had followed. Sho had kept him in the loop though and he had shown Nino only the stories that he thought he needed to know. Nino had chatted happily throughout the burger meal but now he had fallen into silence again. His eyes seemed to have sunk into his head and his poor lower lip was so bruised that it was almost bloody.

“It will be fine, Kazu…” Ohno said gently as he pulled them into a car parking space his hand coming up to stroke gently at his cheek and Nino blinked rapidly turning to look at him with his mouth parted into a gasp. “Sorry, I didn’t mean to startle you…”

“Sorry, Samii, I was lost in my thoughts…I’m not…I’m not going to…Change my mind…No matter what…” Nino said, saying the same thing that he had been saying since they had first gone for their break. “…I want to be with you…”

“…Kazu…No matter I will be by your side…” Ohno breathed. For the last month, he had tried to convince Nino that they would have to be careful to stick to their plan but his own resolve had crumpled somewhat. He knew that he would never be able to leave Nino, he had always known that, but now it was so much more intense a feeling. The fear of losing him had made him more determined to stay with him. Nino smiled at his words and then moved forward kissing at his lips for just a moment before they both sighed knowing that their time alone was up. “Come on my love…”

“…Samii…I love you…” Nino told him again his voice on the verge of vanishing now and Ohno smiled sadly knowing that despite his bold words Nino was realising the seriousness of their situation. It was one thing to state lofty ideas and intentions but the reality was never so kind.

“I love you too…” Ohno responded before they both climbed out of the car and headed towards the palace. The bodyguard had never been as happy as he was now that they were not in the palace. It was still formal but there was something more relaxed about the house. Nino brushed his fingers against his for a moment and then smoothed down his clothing before stepping through the door which led to the Emperor’s private room. The man was relaxing in a chair with a book when they entered and for a moment Ohno was sure that they could forget that they were in the presence of the emperor and imagine that it was simply a grandfather meeting with his grandson. “Your majesty…”

“…Kazunari…”

“Grandfather…” Nino whispered bowing his head before falling into the chair that the emperor directed him to. Ohno hovered at his side and the room was filled with a tense silence for a moment before Nino breathed “…I haven’t changed my mind…About what I said before…I’m…I’m gay…And…I…I…”

“Are in love with Satoshi, yes, I know…I’m old my dear boy, not blind…Now the question is what we are going to do about it…” The emperor said brightly reaching out and taking his grandson’s hand. The air was knocked out of Ohno’s lungs unable to believe what he was hearing. The man didn’t seem angry, in fact he was smiling with his eyes shining more brightly than they had done in many years rather like Nino’s when he wanted to play a prank “After what happened last month...Did you think that I would deny you what you so desire?”
