The Night Stalker part 3

Monday: 10:58am
After leaving Masaki's crypt I made my way upstairs for the press conference. I am not too proud to admit that there was some reservation in my chest no matter how I acted. Captain Matsumoto Jun, at only 26 was the youngest captain on the force. He and I had been friends at one stage in our lives but unfortunately that relationship had turned somewhat sour when I had refused to join the police academy and had instead joined what he called locusts who were only out for themselves. Yes, in the eyes of my once friend, reporters are the lowest form of life and I thought that most police officers were brainless, witless zombies…I think I can leave you to imagine why our friendship ended…

The conference was already under way when he arrived but that had never stopped him before and moving in front of the other reporters he stood in the front holding out his recorder to the unflappable Jun. Jun glared at him openly but proceeded to give the bare bones of the facts not mentioning the saliva or the dead skin that had been found meaning that it hadn't yielded any clues. Of course Nino knew when to keep quiet. That was for his exclusive and he didn't want any of the sharks around him getting his exclusive first. The conference stated only what Nino already knew and when it came to a close he joined the fray of reporters trying to ask questions.

“At this time there will be no further questions…” Jun said sternly with his hands raised for silence and Nino was positive that his eyes had homed in on him and he was proved right when he added “that includes you…Ninomiya…”

“How cold…” Nino pouted deciding to slip out of the room and wait for Jun-pon in his office. He had pocketed a key some time ago when the man had been infuriatingly obtuse and so far, nobody had asked for it back. Jun’s desk was inordinately straight and tidy and it was easy for him to search through the files to find the one on the dead girl. Unlike the press conference this told him the place of employ and her address. Nino quickly jotted down both before putting the file back and sitting in the chair to wait for Jun. It took only a few moments and until the man came in. He didn't look surprised to see him but he did growl;

“This is off limits…”

“I just wanted to talk to you…” Nino shrugged nonchalantly glad that he had had the foresight to come in earlier and look at the case files. He wriggled his eyebrows a little saying “Something that I could have used to make you feel very uncomfortable if I had mentioned it a few minutes ago…”

“You know about the dead skin tissue…” Jun sighed dropping down into his own chair and tilting it back just a little as he crossed his fingers across his chest and Nino nodded happily saying;

“Yup…”

“That’s it…Masaki is going to lose his job…”

“No he's not…” Nino said with confidence that was justified. Masaki for all his air headedness had graduated at the top of his class and could have gone on to be a professor but he had taken the low paid job because it interested him “Have you checked the data base?”

“Of course I have, there's no match…look you're not going to get any more out if me…So you might as well stop trying…”

“Fine…I should be going anyway…” Nino sighed getting up and clicking out his back. He headed to the door and then remembered the conversation that he’d had with his mother the night before “Oh yeah, are you still coming for dinner on Sunday? Mum wants to know...”

“Yeah…You can tell her I’ll be there…Now get out of here…”

“Sure thing, Jun-pon…”

A/N: And now Jun has been introduced…I hope that this is okay ^_^
