The king was satisfied with the result. There wasn’t the need for a long debate. The court had been almost unanimous in their decision with only two of the human members speaking against. Their protests had fallen on somewhat stony ears and faces as they listened to them arguing that Nino seemed dispassionate and uninterested and Ohno had argued that his beloved had simply detached himself from what was going on around them. It had been Masaki’s spirited argument that the Aquenix would only have come to his master and sang the way that he had if he was in deep emotional trouble. Of course few people had believed that Phoenix was an Aquenix and Ohno could only be thankful that Nino and his two had left. He wouldn’t have wanted to been there with Sho and the person that had questioned his partner’s skill at being a Ru’inwë the elves that had been there had barely been calm themselves. It had taken five minutes to calm down both humans and elves so that Masaki could give his evidence of Phoenix being an Aquenix and then prove that they could only sing and shine the way they did when their human partners were deeply upset or gravely injured.

That he had bloomed and completely fledged in the space of a moment was the best piece of evidence and many of the humans had taken Phoenix’s baby feathers believing the old stories about a Phoenix feather curing illness. Masaki had whispered frantically in Elvish that it wasn’t completely true, only the tail feathers could do that…They were said to be able to bring back a person from death…Though, Masaki had added sadly, that it was only the recently dead. The tears of a Phoenix could cure any and all poison from the infected and their claws were deadly to those that sought to harm their human. Ohno took a moment to be thankful that Phoenix appeared to like him at least a little.

The evidence had been enough to sway the two humans and the sentence was carried out. Exile for the two men. They would be escorted to back into the human territories and then released with only a knife. If they were successful hunters, then they would survive and earn their redemption. It might seem cruel to some but it was something that had worked for them for many years. Stepping away from the court he hurried back to the camp wanting to make sure that Nino was okay.

Nino was sitting in the centre of the camp with Phoenix sat upon his shoulder with his long tail feathers curling around his arm and his beak moving through Nino’s hair grooming him gently while Nino talked to Sho with Fee and Swift at their feet. Ohno was surprised at the depth of conversation that appeared to be going on between his beloved and Sho but he wasn’t the only one as Masaki gave a little squeak at his side before smiling;

>This is good! I was worried that Sho would be too awkward around Nino but they look comfortable…<

>Indeed…They do…< Ohno smiled at his third before moving forward again. Sho noticed them first and motioned to Nino who turned and smiled his entire face lighting up and Ohno felt his heart skip knowing that soon they would go and ask the lady’s blessing on their union.
