The feast was perfect, much more enjoyable than the formal dance that had been their wedding party and Nino giggled as he was passed around the dancefloor before being safely delivered back into the arms of his husband. Jun was looking so much more relaxed tonight the non-formal outfit of red with a touch of gold made his body seem taller and more powerful than it actually was and Nino couldn’t help but let out a happy and contented sigh as he was held against the broad chest for a couple of moments before being swung out and dragged into a dance. The music was lively, played by the workers from the city and neighbouring fields, and completely different to the long sweeping songs that they were normally dancing too.
The food and drink was flowing with the doors and gates open for anyone that might want to join in. The large stack of gifts that had been brought for the servants in the house had already been given while another much larger stack of food parcels, money, and wood was waiting to be given to the party gooers at the end of the night. There was no formality in the air and even the king was in the middle of the dance hall dancing with as many of his people as he could manage. It was easy for Nino to see why the Ohno-Matsumoto’s were the strongest royal family for decades. Their people loved them and they loved their people.
“May I have the pleasure of the next dance?” A voice said from behind them and Nino turned with a grin and then let out a surprised squeak when he saw Toma standing behind him bowing him politely. It hadn’t been long since he had last seen the knight only a month or two but it seemed that so much had happened since then that it felt like a life time. Nino was so sure of Jun’s feelings now that he didn’t even feel a niggle of jealousy when Toma looked at his husband. Jun was stiff for a few moments and then smiled moving forward and sweeping the man up into a hug.
“I have missed you here in the palace…When did you come back?” Jun asked and Toma smiled a little before letting him go and answering softly;
“I have missed you too my friend and in answer to your question only just…I thought of staying away but I didn’t feel that I could be justified in staying awa from the royal winter feast…And as always it is the best place to be…”
“Of course…Was there any doubt of that?” Jun asked coming back to Nino’s side and placing an arm around his waist. He was trying not to be jealous but the action was clear to them all in its intent and Nino sighed a little while Toma’s face stiffened just a little before he smiled again bowing his head and saying;
“None whatsoever…But I was serious, my friend…May I ask for the pleasure of your husband’s company in the next dance?”
“…My husband has his own mind you would have to ask him…”
“I would be more than happy to dance with you, Sir Ikuta…” Nino answered gently wishing that there was a way that he could really get the two friends to be friends again. It was hard seeing them so stiff around each other when he knew that Toma was one of the few people who had always been beside his husband.
“Toma, please your grace…We were becoming friends were we not?”
“Of course…I…Toma…Then after our dance you should dance with Jun…” He said before realising what was coming out of his mouth “…I mean…I would like to see it and I think that it may help…Clear the air…”
