“Today I introduced Takuya to my parents my mate was so shy! He blushed and giggled brightly before tripping over his own tail and almost crashing head first into papa’s throne. Needless to say both mama and papa fell in love with him almost as much as I have. I cannot wait until with bonded I know that it’s only a formality but I want my mate with me every day... Takuya's parents still seem unhappy with the match and have only allowed me half a day’s visiting time... When we are bonded they won't have that power over us...mama says I have to wait until Takuya is older at least 15 but that’s more than a year away and I want him with me now... Jun-ki"

"Wow" Jun muttered closing the book and having to grimace at the whiny impatient nature of the would be king and Yuichi chuckled wiping his glasses with the hem of his shirt

“Yes my lord those earlier entries aren’t for the faint of heart…It seems your predecessor was a little possessive even when he was young…” The researcher said and Jun gave a groan. Feeling second hand embarrassment for the boy that would one day be king.

“Doesn’t he get better at all?” Jun asked ignoring the way Kazu was mouthing ‘creepy soppy pervert’ from his place on Satoshi's lap. “Doesn’t he have anything useful to say?”

“I…I think at first the journal was the place that the young prince could be as soppy and as romantic as possible…” Yuichi said as carefully as he could and Jun was losing all hope that there might be more than the romantic babblings he had already read. “You see he was only 15 but he was in training to be a king so in his everyday life he couldn’t say those things he had to be an adult…As he grows up they do become less gushing but his complete devotion to his fated mate is always clear…”

“So in other words ‘Don’t hold your breath’” Kazu pointed out unhelpfully giving a gleeful laugh. “…Isn’t there anything from the bard though? A bard is a story teller…You would have thought that there would have been something from him…”

“Yes my lord I thought that too but apart from some very beautiful songs and stories there was nothing. He left absolutely nothing about his time with Takumi…” Yuichi said sadly looking up at the portrait on the wall. “I have a few copies of his songs and one of his stories if you would like to read them…”

“What about the song that Takumi is sitting on in that painting?” Kazu asked getting up and pulling Satoshi with him. Jun hummed a little himself as he walked towards the painting that Kazu had been so taken with when he first woke up.

“My lord…That…”

“You’ve spent so long looking at this painting now that you don’t even see it anymore…look…just here” Kazu hissed circling the painting a few times with his finger and wiping some of the collected grime from its surface. Satoshi blinked and then let out a gasp as he read the title ‘To my beloved Takumi’. He followed the words down and read slowly though it was hard as the music in the painting was almost upside down and back to front to them.

“Gifted by the fates, my lover, my bonded, my mate…This is the story of my mate Takumi and how he came to me…”

“Oh and Jun-ki was just a creepy pervert?” Jun laughed and Kazu shrugged putting his arms around Satoshi holding him tightly.

“That’s different, that’s sweet…Any version of you is just a creep…” He said as he stuck out his pink tongue and wiggled it around. Clicking his own tongue in anger Jun reached out and tried to grab it. The smaller Nekoman was quicker than him though and he runs around Ohno and he sticks out his tongue again “Nahnahnah!”

“You’re such a child” Jun told him folding his arms across his chest and glaring at the painting “So what does it prove if there was something written by the bard?”

“I…Nothing much of course nothing concrete, people will just say that they were brothers or it was just a coincidence…” Yuichi sighed hobbling around the soft and sinking down into it heavily disturbing some of the dust that had buried its way in to the lining and sending a faint dust cloud up into the air and almost choking Jun who walked back to the desk.

“What? Even if you have the dairy of the perverted king and the missing song of a famous bard saying the same thing…?” Kazu muttered doubtfully eyeing the old man as his tail linked around Satoshi's “Maybe they can but since you don’t have that song…It proves that they’ve hidden it from you…”

“Or only that it is lost…” Yuichi sighed “It has been a long time…Or it might be that it was never finished…There is so much that we can only speculate my lord…I believed that I had covered all of the angles with my research but now…Now I realise that there were so many things that went unsearched and now I am too old…”

“It’s not all your fault…” Satoshi said in a calm soothing tone and Jun had to agree nodding he added

“It was a lot to do by yourself…You needed a pair…or several fresh pairs of eyes…”

“Yeah and it probably didn’t help that someone somewhere was hiding everything that you needed…” Kazu put in thoughtfully rubbing at his ear that had started to twitch “Why did you start researching the twins of the fates anyway?”

“…When I was younger…I have always been a studier and as a boy I fell in love with the story and the idea of mates…Even as a kitten I wasn’t well liked amongst my peers so the idea of fated mates was appealing to me...I figured that one day I would meet my mate and then somebody would accept me…One by one my peers found there mates but…I never found mine…I threw myself in my research and then one day while aboard I was in a bookshop and I chanced upon the journal…At first I couldn’t believe what I was seeing what I had in my hands…I believed then and now my purpose in this world was to tell the whole story of the twins of the fates…” Yuichi sighed looking completely miserable as he stared at the journal “But even in that I have failed…”

“Nyan! You didn’t fail Nyan!” Nino said suddenly and Jun blinked wondering when his bonded had slipped back in. He had been so caught up in what Yuichi was saying that he hadn’t noticed it. The energetic Nekoman darted forward and patted his shoulders a few times his tail flicking happily. Jun wondered how much his mate had actually heard or understood on the conversation but Nino would be able to tell that the older man was upset. “Ne…Nino’s feet found Junny…Even though Nino didn’t know…Yu-Yu-san’s feet found the book…There’s a reason for everything ne!”

“I…Yes…I…Thank-you my lord…” Yuichi said giving a weak smile and Nino patted his shoulders again giving a purr. Jun blinked and then darted around the table to wrap his little mate into his arms pressing their cheeks together. “We’ll just have to find out the reason why…” Yuichi murmured and Jun agreed rubbing his face into Nino’s hair needing to almost scent him after all the trouble he’d had with Kazu. 

“Ne…Junny…” Nino giggled trying to push him away but the action was only half hearted. Jun pulled him back to the desk and sat him on his lap resting his chin on his shoulder and flicking the book open and starting to read.

“I took Takuya to the lake today I wanted to take a picnic but because Takuya’s parents insist I take him home before 12 there would be no point so I brought some snacks from the kitchen. Everything seems so exciting to Takuya, his eyes glow even when he sees a pigeon…Which are dirty feathered rats…We sat at the lake with our arms around each other. I had so much fun. Takuya seeme captivate with the way that light plays on the water I wonder if I should give him that crystal Mama gave to me…Jun-ki”

Nino and Kazu exchange seems easier now, or that's just what I think..

And I really feel that I love both Kazu and Nino equally in this, both are really helpful in different ways ^^
