Ninomiya ‘Nino’ Kazunari stared down at the pregnancy test with a sinking heart as he read the words that flashed up on the little screen. Not Pregnant. Just two little words that had been repeated for the last two months. He sank down onto the toilet and held his head in hands trying to stop his tears from coming out but it was damned near impossible. A year ago he would have loved those words but now that he was married they were the most devastating thing that he could ever have read. He closed his eyes and breathed sharply through his nose a few times wondering how long his husband would keep him around if he continued to be unable to bear his children. That was the only reason that he had married his husband after all.
*~*~*~*~*~* Five Months Earlier*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Nino gagged a little holding his hands over his mouth as his body shuddered near violently. He had been feeling off colour for the last couple of days and now he had been forced by his parents to come to the hospital and see a doctor. It wasn’t what he had wanted it was money that his family could ill afford but his parents had insisted. The doctor had taken one look at him and then decided that he had a suspicion what the cause was. He hadn’t told him what his suspicions were but had taken blood and urine samples before heading out of the room and leaving him with his parents. His mother, Kazuko, was smiling the best that she could manage while holding on to his hand tightly squeezing at him for a moment of two.
“I’m sorry…We shouldn’t have come…” He mumbled, knowing that the cleaning job that his mum worked would barely cover the cost of the doctor consultation and he had no idea how much the tests were going to add on to that. He groaned slowly when his stomach twisted around like a washing machine. He turned his face away and heaved a few times into an empty bin that the doctor had given him when he had first entered. His stomach was already too empty for anything other than bile to come out and all the act served to do was cause his chest to feel painful and his throat to burn. His dad, never normally the type to show his caring side, gently rubbed his back in a slow movement and then silently offered him a glass of water.
“Stop worrying about that…” Kazuko growled and Nino sighed wishing that he could. The reality was though that since his dad’s accident three years ago they were barely scraping by. It didn’t help that his parents had somehow ended up in the debt of a company that was just a front for a loan shark. Something that was meant to help them get by had turned into a weight around their necks that they would never be able to escape. It drained any of the compensation money that his father had gotten as the result of his accident and his mother had only been able to get short term jobs in the morning and at night as most of her days were devoted to the care of his father. The man had fallen into depression recently when he realised that he would never have the full use of his legs and one of his arms again. Nino had given up school to work but even then he hadn’t been able to do little more than wait tables and wash cars but at least there were no school fees to pay. Now though it looked like there was going to be a ludicrous hospital bill that they would have to try and find money for. The whole thing seemed like a never ending nightmare.
“Congratulations…” The doctor said coming back into the room suddenly just as he was about to start crying and Nino looked up at him wondering if he was joking. “I’m pleased to announce that you’re a bearer…You’re just going through your first monthly cycle…There’s nothing to worry about…”
“A…A…Bearer? Me?!” Nino hissed slowly his mouth going dry as his stomach stopped churning for long enough for him to think. Bearers were the smallest percent of humans, male and female, that acted differently from the rest of the world a male bearer had a womb and was able to carry children while woman, although called bearers, could produce semen and could impregnate a female lover. It made them rather desirable partners for rich homosexuals who wanted children to carry on their name without having to adopt or have surrogates and never in his life had he dreamed that he would be one. “There has to be a mistake…”
“No mistake, we had rushed your tests but I was already fairly certain…You’re a bearer…Your body should be back to normal in a day or two. Just go home relax and try not to do anything to strenuous…”
“I can’t be a bearer…I can’t be…” Nino breathed again the hand that wasn’t desperately clutching at his mother’s moving down to ghost over his own stomach.
“We could run the tests again, but that would just cost more time and money…You’re a bearer…” The doctor said with a little less bedside manner now sighing as he reached out and handed some forms to his parents “You will have to register your son for the government’s database…They like to keep an eye on these things…But other than that everything will be the same…I’m going to give him a prescription for some anti-sickness medicine if it becomes too much just take one and rest it under your top lip…”
“I see…And…The bill?” Kazuko breathed sounding somewhat relieved and bewildered and the doctor gave him the first piece of good news since they arrived saying;
“There isn’t one…The law says that all medical treatment on bearers is processed through the government…You can fill the registration forms in here and we’ll post them out for you but other than that…I think we’re done for today…”
*~*~*~*~*Present Day*~*~*~*~*
Nino recovered from his crying fit and wrapped the pregnancy test in some tissue before making his way out of the bathroom and out into the spacious apartment that was a world away from the IDK apartment that he had lived with his parents in for most of his life. It was a perfect blend of tradition and modern and he supposed that he should be lucky that he was able to live there but…But that was only going to last until his husband realised that he had married a bearer that was unable to bear children. How long would it be before his husband realised that he had been sold a bad egg and kicked him out? The whole deal…The arrangement between his husband and his family would fall apart faster than it had been brought together and he would be back with his parents in an even worse state than when he had left because in spite of everything he had actually started to care about his husband…Maybe even love him…Which was stupid as he was only the means to an end.
*~*~*~*Four Months Earlier*~*~*~*
Nino groaned stretching out his back muscles, aching from time spent bent over cleaning tables and the start of his monthly cycle. It had taken him a lot to come to terms with the fact that he was indeed a bearer and it had taken his parents even longer. The doctor had made it sound like nothing would change but the truth of the matter was that a lot of things had changed. Ever since he had gotten his registration card back from the government office he had received several requests for meetings from people that he had never even heard of before. It was a strange experience and completely unnerving as it became clear that the government office had given out his details to anybody that could afford it and that made him angry and almost sick. It made him feel like livestock that could be sold to the highest bidder.
Hoping against hope that today would be a normal day in which he could change into his slacks and just help around the house he headed home choosing to walk instead of be crammed into a sardine tin he made his way to the path by the river breathing in the fresh scent deciding that he much preferred it to the scent of sweaty men pressed up against him. It took longer to walk but almost the whole way he was blessed with the images of birds on the water and trees that were just giving away to autumn by starting to grow a beautiful shade of orange and yellow. He loved this time of year better than any other time and he knew that he was walking more slowly so that he could linger and he was surprised to find that a handsome man, dressed in a dove grey business suit, was standing at the edge of the river tossing in some bird seed to a horde of very happy birds.
The man was around the same height as him with soft dyed brown hair which was cut to around his ears. He had a strangely chubby tanned face but a slim body and his hands were slim and fingers long and gracefully as the seed poured through them and into the water below. The smile that adorned his face as he looked at the birds was one that Nino had one believed only existed in fairy stories of princes and princesses. His eyes sparkled under heavy and almost sleepy looking lids and his lips were stretched wide. Sensing his presence, the man turned to look at him and then reached out and offered the paper bag of bird seed and before he realised what was happening he was reaching out and taking a handful and giggling with delight as he tossed it to the birds below him and they bobbed up and down trying to get as much as they could into their mouths. The water around them foamed a little and then swelled as they moved capturing the food and eating it down.
The man offered him some more seed and together they stayed feeding the birds until the bag was empty and the man gave him another smile carefully folding it up into a little square before turning it into the most perfect origami swan that he had ever seen.
“For you…” The strange man said handing him the bird before walking away without another word leaving Nino feeling confused and excited carefully clutching at the bird with a slack jawed expression on his face. He walked home feeling happier than he had done in the last few weeks until he saw a familiar nondescript car parked outside his apartment block. It was gloomy SUV with blacked out windows and polished to an inch of its life and he knew that it could only belong to the people that had gotten his family into so much debt that there was no escape. Knowing that at this time of his day his dad would be alone he picked up his steps hating that he had lingered so long on the river
Inside he was warned by several people that there were goons in his apartment and he smiled trying hard not to be too unpleasant to the people who delighted in other people’s misfortune as it made their own seem better. He ignored the broken elevator and raced up the three flights of stairs without stopping until he reached his door and then stepped inside. Sure enough two shaved gorillas were standing in the apartment in clothes that seemed to be only held together by a wing and a prayer and he felt anger curling up inside his stomach.
“What do you want? You don’t get paid until next week…”
“We’re not hear for money…” The one on the right informed him slowly with a gruff voice motioning for him to sit down next to his father who was looking as angry as he was feeling. “We have a proposition from our boss…”
“Oh? And what’s that? More debt…”
“…No, actually we’re here with a chance to get you out of debt…” The left hand guy growled with even less grace than his counterpart. Nino went still hating the fact that he was interested in what they had to say. He had been trying hard but there was no way that he could or would ever be able to pay off the debt that his parents owed.
“Oh…And how do we do that…?”
“It’s not we…It’s you…You are a bearer…Our boss is gay…He wants you to marry him and have his child…”
“What…No…”
“Ah-Ah-Ah…Before you say no…You should know that if you do this your family debt will be cleared and your parents would be given a better standard of life than they are currently enjoying…” The right hand guy told him and Nino felt his mouth snap closed as he looked around the apartment that could barely support his father or his wheelchair. “A nice ground floor apartment…A bed for your father…Wouldn’t that be nice? And all you would have to do is get married…”
“Kazu…See these people out…”
“…No…Wait…I…Maybe…” Nino breathed slowly his brain sparking as he looked down at the bird in his hands. It had been a strange day and a small part of him had hoped he would see his bird man again but that didn’t matter, all that matter was that his parents were taken care of and if he could do that in some way then maybe. “Will I be allowed to talk to your boss…Before? Or is it a blind date…”
“I’ll call him now…”
*~*~*~*Present Day*~*~*~*
Nino sighed putting the negative pregnancy test down in the bottom of the bin reminding himself that there was a signed contract in place. His husband had given him six months to conceive and they were only into the second month of their marriage. He still had four months left. Four months and then everything could come crashing down around his ears. He had tried hard, he had researched everything that he could on bearers and everything online told him that there should be no physical reason that he couldn’t conceive he just needed to relax and nature would take its course. Or so they said. He sighed hard and pinched the bridge of his nose before looking at the clock on their wall noticing that there was only an hour to go until his husband was due home and he had yet to start making dinner.
He gave another sigh rubbed his forehead again before going to the kitchen, which was larger than his parent’s whole apartment had ever been and then pulled out the food that he had sorted out earlier. He had been convinced that he would be pregnant this time. His husband had been incredibly attentive during his cycle having sex with him in the morning and then again at night filling him with his seed over and over. He flinched slowly wondering if his husband’s gentle appearance would change when he realised that he was defective.
*~*~*~*Four Months Earlier*~*~*~*
Nino tapped his fingers on the table in front of him his heart fluttering against his ribs like a caged bird as his eyes kept moving to the door looking for the man that he was waiting for. If he was honest he had no idea what the man looked like so each time the door opened, he felt a lump of nerves settle into his stomach until they moved away to other tables. He was wearing what was meant to be his best suit but it felt rather like his school uniform and for some reason before leaving his house he had put his little origami swan into his pocket. He gave a heavy sigh and then closed his eyes wishing that he could just run and forget about all of this but he knew that if he did so then it would just come down worse for his parents and there was nothing in this world that he wanted less than that.
“Ninomiya-kun?” A somewhat familiar voice whispered as heat suddenly came to wash over his right hand side and Nino pulled his eyes open to look up shocked when he saw the man from the river standing beside him looking different but just as handsome as he had a few days ago. If the man next to him recognised him at all then he didn’t show it just stared down at him with an unreadable expression in his face. “You are Ninomiya-kun?”
“Um…Yes…You…You’re…The man...”
“Ohno Satoshi…I’m sorry I’m late…” Satoshi breathed moving to sit across the table from him and Nino wished that he had the courage to ask him if he was feeding the birds again but he stopped himself playing around with a napkin “…I hope that you weren’t waiting long…”
“No…” Nino lied shaking his head and sipping at the glass of sparkling fruit water glad that it took away some of the tight dryness that he was feeling in his throat. “Um…”
“…So you want to marry me?”
“…I…Well you…You said that…You…The debt…I…” Nino floundered like a fish not knowing what he was meant to say or how he was meant to act. He had assumed that Satoshi would be the one doing all of the talking and hadn’t bothered to think of anything that he might have to say just how he might have to respond. The older man was staring at him still with his unreadable eyes and Nino tried to take courage from the fact that he had seen him smiling at some point. “Your pet gorillas said that you…You would clear my family’s debt…”
“Yes…” The man muttered and Nino wondered if this was what it was going to be like while they were married and if it was it was going to be even worse than he could ever have imagined. He held onto those few moments that he had shared with his future husband on the riverside and then swallowed nodding himself.
“Okay…What…Um…When…?”
“As soon as possible…” Satoshi grunted with something close to disinterest as he started studying the menu that was in front of him. Nino nodded slowly again drinking more of his water. “…That would be best for your parents right?”
“…Yeah…I guess…Um…” Nino swallowed and then pulled out the paperwork that he had gotten from the hospital to prove that he was bearer. He had been told by the brother’s grim that their boss had wanted to see it but so far Satoshi hadn’t bothered to ask him “I…Um…Do you need to see proof?”
“What?”
“That I’m a bearer? Do you need to see paperwork?”
“Are you a bearer?” Satoshi asked and Nino gave a small nod flushing under the stare that Satoshi was giving him as he pulled out he papers. Satoshi didn’t even bother to look at them but instead pushed it back into his direction. “…Pick something to eat…”
“Um…Okay…” Nino shoved the papers back into his bag and then pulled his menu in front of him trying hard not to look at the prices and think that his parents could afford to eat for a week. He sighed through his nose and then purposely picked the only food name that he recognised noting that Satoshi sighed and asked for a sea food platter, something that he couldn’t even afford for two months of saving.
“Do you drink…Smoke or take drugs?” Satoshi asked when the waiter had bustled off and Nino almost choked on his drink wondering exactly where he was meant to get the money for something as expensive as that. Instead of getting made though he calmly shook his head answering;
“No…Do you?”
“No…” Satoshi answered before retreating into silence again and leaving Nino with the image of their future together of the only time he could speak to somebody would be their children. It seemed close to being a nightmare over a fairy story and not even the image of Satoshi on the river would be able to save him.
*~*~*~*~*Present Day*~*~*~*~*
Nino chuckled to himself at the memory as he set the table. It had only taken two weeks into their marriage for him to realise that his husband was actually a rather shy man that seemed to prefer living in his own little head then in the real world. He had opened up for him though more so when Nino had realised that Satoshi had a keen interest in fish and had gone out and brought a fish tank stocked with little fish that he could watch when he thought the world was being too hectic. They would often sit together on the sofa and watch fishing shows and shows about art for hours with Satoshi telling him more than the presenters ever could. He still wasn’t much of a speaker but it wasn’t as bad a life as he had envisioned for himself in that restaurant a few months ago. Now though he was going to lose it all because he couldn’t conceive.
The door of the apartment opened with a click and Nino tried hard to push his dark thoughts aside welcoming his husband with a smile and a happy greeting of;
“Welcome home, did you have a good day?”
“…Normal…” Satoshi shrugged taking off his coat and tossing it on the back of a chair before heading to the stove and looking at the things that he was cooking. It was something that had become routine for them and Nino felt his heart break that it might all be over soon. Tears burned in his eyes and he ran from the kitchen leaving Satoshi alone and confused.
*~*~*~*Three months ago*~*~*~*
“You don’t have to go through with this…” Kazuko whispered as he dressed himself in his wedding tuxedo. It felt strange to be having a celebration for a wedding nobody wanted but, contrary to what his mother said, he did have to go through with it. Satoshi had already stricken off the family debt and had been moved into an adapted apartment that was much better for his father and took a lot of strain off of his mother.
“It’ll be okay…”
“Nothing about this is okay…” His father barked from his position in his wheelchair by the window. Nino was glad that he had actually started to speak to him as he hadn’t spoken a word since he had agreed to marry Satoshi for his money. Nino could understand that his father felt guilty for all of this but Nino wanted him to understand that this was his choice. “You should be in school looking forward to going to college not marrying some crime lord to be a breed mere…”
“…I met Satoshi-san before he made the arrangement…” Nino whispered deciding that now was the only time he could play this card and he pulled the slightly tattered swan from his pocket. He had started to take it with him recently, as a reminder that Satoshi could be sweet and even smile when he wanted to. He held onto the swan like a talisman now touching it whenever he was presented with his unfeeling soon to be husband. “I liked him then…That’s the reason that I agreed to marry him…Yes it helps you but…He’s not as cold as he pretends to be…” He whispered wishing that were true. “I…Please believe me…”
“I’m your father! I should be protecting you from all of these things! But I’m useless…I’m no good…”
“You’re perfect, if you didn’t love me as much as you do I would never have agreed to do this…I want to help you…Please, dad-dy…” The word, something that he hadn’t said since he was a child, slipped out of his mouth unbidden as he dropped to the floor and pressed his face into his father’s legs. The older man, unused to displays of affection from his only child, stiffened ever so slightly and then relaxed bringing his only good hand up to stroke at his hair. “I love you…And I will never regret doing this for you…I’ve never been good for anything in my life but now I can be…So please stopping worrying about me…”
“...Kazu…You are my son…It is my duty to worry about you but it is not your duty to worry about me…”
“It is when I love you as much as I do…Mum is running herself ragged to work and look after you…You are tearing yourself to pieces and moving further into yourself because of needless guilt…If I can take some of that away then I am happy to do so…And Satoshi…He isn’t all bad…” Nino breathed once again remembering the smile that he had seen at the river that day. “Things will be fine…I promise…”
“Kazu…” His father started but a sharp knock sounded briskly pulling them apart and Nino nervously got to his feet and then checked his reflection over in the mirror tucking the origami swan back into his pocket before adjusting the flower in his lapel before heading to the door.
“Come with me down the aisle…Please…” He breathed and slowly his dad pulled himself up out of his chair and hooked his good arm around him. It was a slow walk down the short aisle but Nino was positive that with each step he took he was going to cry with the amount of pride that he had in him for his father in those few moments. His mother followed behind with the wheel chair but Juri stood proudly as he handed him over to Satoshi. There was an expression in Satoshi’s face as he reached out and took his hand but Nino had been too nervous to read it and he carefully answered the questions of the priest keeping his eyes at a point near Satoshi’s ear.
The reception afterwards seemed to be just a reason for Satoshi’s men to consume more alcohol than was healthy for normal men and then try and start fights with each other and the guests that Nino had. There weren’t many of them, only a few people out of his old apartment block bothered to show, the others that had been invited were in too much debt to Satoshi to want to celebrate his marriage or the fact that the Ninomiya’s had managed to get themselves debt free. A few sent condolence cards and some even called him a whore but he stayed fast in doing what he thought was best for his parents.
*~*~*~* Present Day*~*~*~*
Nino dropped down into the bed and cried into Satoshi’s pillow. His heart felt as though it was trying to claw its way out of his chest through the space in between his ribs and it was growing increasingly more difficult to breathe. He could feel the happiness that he had managed to find with Satoshi slowly slipping away and he was terrified that everything was going to go wrong for his beloved parents who had just started to get their own lives back. His mum still worked but the money went on them instead of their debt and they had even started to believe that he didn’t regret marrying Satoshi. The only thing wrong with the whole thing was that he was seemingly unable to conceive and he couldn’t understand why.
“…Kazunari…” Satoshi said coming in from the kitchen sounding vaguely concerned “…Are you…Okay?”
It was a stupid question really, considering the fact that he was crying his heart out but it was a very Satoshi like question and Nino somehow managed to stop crying for long enough to smile. The respite didn’t last long though and soon his was crying again feeling like an emotional wreck. His whole body shook with the tears that were running through it and there was something vaguely comforting about the way his husband came to sit on the bed and rest a comforting hand in the middle of his back.
“I’m…Fine…”
“Even I can see that that’s a lie…” Satoshi informed dryly, showing an unusual amount of self-awareness and Nino gave another smile until the question came “What’s wrong?”
“Nothing…I’m fine…”
“So…You normally cry…Of course you do…Why wouldn’t you?” Satoshi sighed stringing the longest sentence that Nino had ever heard from his lips together a long and tired sigh leaving his throat. “You’re married to a man that you don’t like…Forced to act like the perfect homemaker and…Have sex with me…If you were alright then I would find it strange…”
“What? No!” Nino gasped his tears all but forgotten now as he pulled himself up and looked at him through watery eyes surprised to see that there was a genuinely downcast expression on the older man’s face. It was something that he had never seen before and it surprised him to find that it made him happy to see any kind of expression on his face.
“You don’t have to pretend that you’re happy Kazunari…” Satoshi said proving yet again that he was the only person on the planet that called him by his full name. Even if his parents didn’t call him Nino they called him Kazu nobody but his husband took the time to say his full name and Nino found that it was something charming and cute even when it was downright annoying.
“I’m not pretending anything…” He said slowly making himself more comfortable in the bed by sitting up and crossing his leg under him as he took one of Satoshi’s hands and held it with both of his own. “It wasn’t what I was expecting when we got married but…I am happy with you…We work in our in strange way…At least…At least I think so…”
“I do to…But why are you crying?” Satoshi asked with genuine confusion in his brown eyes and Nino swallowed hard on a lump in the back of his throat before whispering;
“I think…I think there’s something wrong with me...”
“Are you sick?” Satoshi asked looking him over slowly and Nino sighed shaking his head once more before whispering;
“No…Not sick…I’m not pregnant…”
“…Oh…But…How would you get pregnant?” Satoshi asked and for one wild moment Nino was sure that his husband didn’t know about bearers or what it meant until he followed it up with “I’m taking that stuff to stop you getting pregnant…”
“What?” Nino choked staring harder than ever at his husband who gave him another confused look before chewing on the inside of his cheek and whispering;
“Don’t you remember? We agreed to wait six months…”
“What? No…You…You said…Six months…Six months…If I didn’t get pregnant…I…The contract…” He stammered trying hard to make sense of what Satoshi was saying but his husband gave him another confused look and then sighed looking down at the bedspread they were sitting on and tracing the black swirl pattern with one of his fingertips before saying;
“On our wedding night…I said that I…That I didn’t want to bring a child into the world that wasn’t loved or had parents that didn’t love each other…” Nino felt his mind scatter back to that night three months ago but he couldn’t remember. It had been his first time and he had been that nervous and Satoshi had been that quiet that he had only heard a few of the words that had come out of his husband’s mouth and he must have pieced them all together to make them into something that they hadn’t been “I…I said that…That we would give it six months and try to fall in love…If not…Then it didn’t matter…”
“You…You…I thought…I thought you meant six months to get pregnant…I thought…I thought you wouldn’t want me…” Nino whispered his mind flying back to that time in the hotel room.
*~*~*~*Three Months ago*~*~*~*
After the wedding of course came the wedding night and Nino sat nervously on the hotel bed looking at his husband who had barely said more than three words to him since they had left the reception down stairs. The man had carefully taking off the jacket to his suit and unfastened the top buttons of his short revealing the fact that the tan on his face went all the way down his chest and Nino wondered if it was natural or if he used tanning beds.it was a stupid thought when he should be getting himself ready for sex with somebody that carried the title husband but was little more than a stranger to him. It was impossible to believe that this was what he had saved his first time for and he couldn't deny that his heart was fluttering around his ribs so much that he didn't realise that Satoshi was talking to him until he cleared his throat and pulled him out of his thoughts.
“Six months…? Is that enough time?” The older man asked and Nino tried desperately to think of what might have proceeded that and then he realised that his husband must have been giving him a deadline to conceive his heir. Six months did seem reasonable: he had read that Bearers had a high fertility rate. He nodded slowly and attempted to smile hoping that his man would at least be gentle with him.
“I'm going to go shower unless you wanted…”
“I'll go after…” Satoshi grunted motioning for him to just go and Nino didn't need to be told twice as he ran for the bathroom and closed the door after him. Tears were collecting in his eyes but he pushed them away and focused himself on getting ready. He was every single part of his body twice in the zesty body lotion that came with the room and then wrapped the towelling robe around his body before stepping out into the bedroom again surprised to find it empty. For a second he was sure that Satoshi had left but a second later he saw him on the balcony looking up at the blanket of stars above him while sipping some champagne from a flute glass. Nino swallowed and poured himself a glass of the drink before going out to join his husband. Satoshi gave him a strange look as he did so but his eyes were dark and turned on as they moved over his body.
He moved forward with a sudden quickness and pressed his lips to Nino’s his lips tracing the seam before pushing inside and coaxing him into a much deeper kiss than the one they had shared in the church. Nino allowed his bath robe to fall open and Satoshi's hand soon came up to coax and stroke his skin playing around with his nipple before going further down to his stomach and beyond.
*~*~*~*Present Day*~*~*~*
The sex had been surprisingly gentle with Satoshi's hand and mouth discovering places that he hadn't known were sensitive before it was little wonder that he hadn't remembered anything but that moment. Satoshi sighed his eyebrows drawing together as he tugged at an imaginary thread on his shirt.
“…I was going to call my men off…When I met you at the river…” He hummed for the first time in their marriage acknowledging the fact that he remembered him from the river. “I thought that maybe…Maybe I could…Win you…Normally but…I couldn’t…I am an awkward person…So I forced you…And myself into this…I…”
“...You...Idiot…” Nino whispered brokenly tears forming again as he moved forward and wrapped his arms around his waist. It was the first time he had ever started any kind of contact but he couldn’t stop himself. All of his happiness and relief came flooding out in one go as he pressed himself into his legs and cried again but with a completely different kind of feeling inside of him now.
“Sorry…” Satoshi whispered patting him on the back in an awkward fashion and Nino sniffed few times and then laughed at everything he had put himself through. “…Did you want a baby that much?”
“…No…But…But I thought that you…That you did…” Nino answered through sniffs and Satoshi let out a sigh shaking his head;
“...I just didn’t want anybody else getting you…”
“Huh?”
“…I’ve liked you a long time…” Satoshi admitted his cheeks growing a very warm pink as he did so. “When I found out you were a bearer…I knew that other people would want you...So I acted stupidly…Forcing you…”
“You didn’t force me…You offered me a choice…”
“…I used your family’s debt to blackmail you…”
“I still had a choice…If…If it had been anyone other than you that walked into that restaurant that night…I would have refused…” Nino whispered with a certainty that he hadn’t felt before knowing that it was what he would have done. But even if he hadn’t acted the same it was the man from the river and that was all that had made up his mind in another way. Satoshi gave him a slightly disbelieving smile his cheeks still pink and Nino sighed closing his eyes as Satoshi said:
“I think…I think we both need to work on our communication…”
“…At least we…We have time to work on that…” Nino nodded and Satoshi gave a genuine smile stroking his cheek with those graceful fingers that he remembered being bewitched by at the riverside. Now that he knew some of Satoshi’s true feelings he didn’t think that it would take very long for him to learn to communicate and he hoped that the same would be said of his husband.
The End

“I see…And…The bill?” Kazuko breathed sounding somewhat relieved and bewildered and the doctor gave him the first piece of good news since they arrived saying;
“Do you drink…Smoke or take drugs?” Satoshi asked when the waiter had bustled off and Nino almost choked on his drink wondering exactly where he was meant to get the money for something as expensive as that. Instead of getting made though he calmly shook his head answering;
The door of the apartment opened with a click and Nino tried hard to push his dark thoughts aside welcoming his husband with a smile and a happy greeting of;
“Welcome home, did you have a good day?”
“It wasn’t what I was expecting when we got married but…I am happy with you…We work in our in strange way…At least…At least I think so…”
“I do to…But why are you crying?” Satoshi asked with genuine confusion in his brown eyes and Nino swallowed hard on a lump in the back of his throat before whispering;
“I think…I think there’s something wrong with me...”
“Are you sick?” Satoshi asked looking him over slowly and Nino sighed shaking his head once more before whispering;
“What?” Nino choked staring harder than ever at his husband who gave him another confused look before chewing on the inside of his cheek and whispering;
“Don’t you remember? We agreed to wait six months…”
“What? No…You…You said…Six months…Six months…If I didn’t get pregnant…I…The contract…” He stammered trying hard to make sense of what Satoshi was saying but his husband gave him another confused look and then sighed looking down at the bedspread they were sitting on and tracing the black swirl pattern with one of his fingertips before saying;
“…No…But…But I thought that you…That you did…” Nino answered through sniffs and Satoshi let out a sigh shaking his head;
The End
A/N: I hope that this was okay…^^

Date: 2016-07-07 05:11 pm (UTC)Can i ask for more story in this universe? Maybe something from Ohno's POV. Something like the moment he first met Nino and like him. Or maybe life after their confession. That would be great too!!
