The little prince hadn’t wanted to go at all, I had had to coax and bribe him into his suit and then attending…” Ohno muttered his voice low and husky and Sho guessed that even now the prince was safe he wished that he hadn’t forced him into attending. The other bodyguard’s eyes were fixed on the younger man who was happily laughing with Masaki, both of them looking like they were having the time of their lives and without the fear that some sicko was chasing down Masaki. He supposed that this was what Ohno meant about their maturity and having to appear to be older than they were. “…He somehow managed to start enjoying himself…I recall that he and the lady Erika…”
“The woman he has to marry?” Sho asked having read up on the lady after his last conversation with Ohno about his relationship with the prince. She was from a very old noble family, pretty and intelligent with a quick wit and without the quiet demeanour that would make her a traditionally good wife. There was another girl in the right age range but Nino had outright refused any connection to her publically in a scene that must have hurt the girl deeply inside even if she never showed it outwardly. Personally Sho couldn’t honestly blame the prince for his refusal, if he had to go ahead with an arranged marriage it would be better to spend his years with somebody that had an IQ higher than that of toast. If he had been expecting Ohno to flinch at the words he was sorely disappointed as the other guard had simply nodded and smiled saying;
“Yes, they spent most of it making fun of what other people were wearing…Even if it is not a love match they are a good match for one another…She has a similar personality to the prince and will at least keep him entertained…”
“It’s still cruel and unfair on them…To be forced to marry just because it suits the noble family…”
“Maybe but that is the burden they bear…” Ohno shrugged not including himself but for a small amount of time Sho could feel the sadness coming off of the older man. It lasted only for a moment before he had pulled himself together and was continuing his tale “Nino may not be a good prince in some people’s eyes but he is still the prince…But I digress, Nino had started to enjoy himself and I was acting just as you are now…I was doing it all by the book I was monitoring the entrances and exits…I had warmed to the prince but I was still something of a robot…I was doing everything that the handbook told me and the next minute Nino was gone and Lady Erika was alone...Immediately I went to her and asked where he had gone and she shrugged telling me that he had gone to the bathroom…I checked straight away and was almost physically sick when I realised that he wasn’t there…A quick search of the property had me finding him and some unsavoury characters in the basement…He was tied up and there were bruises on his face….The little prince was crying as they tried to gag him…He saw me and called me Samii for the first time…After that you can imagine what happened…There was barely enough left of them for a trail…”
“You…Killed them?”
“As good as…They both ended up in comas from which they never awoke…” Ohno shrugged dispassionately “My point is you can do everything by the book but something could still happen…”
“What kind of point is that?” Sho growled starting to feel that maybe Ohno did deserve his reputation. The other man rolled his shoulders slowly muttering;
“Not a very good one…But I’m a bodyguard not a writer and Nino sent me to talk to you, I suppose that I should have simply said…Masaki is already nervous; he’s struggling not to show it but he is...He could use a friend now more than a bodyguard...You can do your job as his guard and be there for him as a friend…So stop acting like an idiot and go…”
