“And so it was over…” Masaki breathed softly sitting down in the sofa and staring around the remains of the wake finding it hard to believe that only half an hour ago it had been teeming with people. There was a strange kind of din in the air now, which came from a room suddenly falling silent. They’d had the funeral and now Shu’s ashes were waiting to be taken to Wales to be scattered. Permission had already come through for them to do so and their tickets were booked on the flight next week. To his immense surprise Jun and Nino had agreed to care for the cat and dog in their absence so that was one thing that he didn’t have to worry about but there was still Sho and his feelings towards him. The man was sometimes the most obtuse and downright arrogant man that he had ever met but there were times when he was sweet, shy, and very charming. Masaki had tried hard to fight it but he could no longer deny that at least on his part there was an attraction.

“Yes...It was a nice service…Not flashy…But…My grandfather would have enjoyed it…” Sho replied picking the cat up from a chair and sitting down with her on his lap so he could stroke her until she was comfortable again. Masaki noted that the older man didn’t care about her drooling onto the trousers of his expensive suit and for some reason that made him incredibly happy and he smiled as he nodded.

“I think so…He would have been happy that so many of his friends came to see him off…And that nobody was overly sad remembering him…” Masaki knew that that sounded bad but he also knew that that was the last thing that Shu would have wanted. It was the reason that he had kept his own grief in check, as much as he could though even now he could feel it bubbling away at the surface “He always said that he had enjoyed his life too much to regret anything so he didn’t want people to wish him back…”

“With you…He lived more in those three years with you than he ever lived before…” Sho sighed and Masaki couldn’t find the words to deny it. Not when it was the same thing the kindly old man had said to him on many occasions. “I’ve seen the photos…It makes me almost jealous…”

“Then you should do them as well Sho-chan! You shouldn’t wait until you’re old like your grandfather was…” Masaki said with so much force that he surprised himself but he couldn’t really help it. Shu had done a lot of things in the three years that they were together but there were still so many that he had never gotten to do as half and old age had made them impossible. Shu had told him once that he had put off his life so much and for so long that one day he had blinked and it was over. It wasn’t even big flashy things that he had missed either it was small things like doing nothing but sitting on the beach listening to the ocean. So many things were saved for tomorrow. Of course not everybody would be able to just do as they pleased for a year or two but as long as they took some time…It was a lot than thinking that his who life had been behind a computer screen.

“Would you travel with me, if I decided to go?”

“Don’t you have a friend that you would want to take?” Masaki asked colour forming in his cheeks as he wished that he could just agree.
“…You’re my only friend, Masaki…We could have fun you and I…”

“Yes…”
