The Alpha and the Omega part 176

Nino followed Ohno out of the office and down the corridor to the reception room where the families that Ohno had taken in. His focus immediately when to to the children who were standing in front of their parents their eyes wide and fearful, with a swirl of confusion. He couldn’t blame them for that, the whole thing had to be an overwhelming thing for them and for some reason he found himself kneeling down to their level and giving them a smile that he was amazed he could muster.

“Hello, nice to meet you…I’m Ohno-Ninomiya Kazunari…But everybody calls me Nino…What are your names?” He breathed watching them all turn to each other and give each other a fearful look before turning back to him and whispering out a ring of four names;

“Chinami…” The smallest girl in the group whispered through a gap in her teeth which caused her to whistle slightly and Nino smiled determined that he would remember it before looking at the tallest girl who seemed to be the most awkward as she was clutching at a smart and obviously new dress that appeared to have been brought for this occasion. In fact, all of the children were smartly dressed and he supposed that was what was making them nervous.

“Hekima…” She breathed before trying to hide herself behind the next girl who was only a little bit taller than the first though in her eyes there was the most confidence than he had seen in any of them as there was no hesitation as she breathed;

“Manami…”

“Tsuneo…” The boy told him quickly trying to stand straight before dropping his shoulders and fidgeting uncomfortably as he dropped his gaze staring at the carpet that they were standing on. There were still trace amounts of bruising and scarring on each of the children and although he felt it Nino squished down the hot anger that he felt and maintained his smile.

“Wow, what beautiful and handsome names you all have, I hope when my son is born he will have a pretty name like yours…” He said his hand going to his stomach wondering if it was the new life inside of him that was making him more predisposed to children at the moment or if it was because he knew more than anyone else what these children had gone through and he wanted to take all four of them into his arms and hold them, to tell them that they would never be hurt again. “Do you like ice cream? We have ice cream right Masaki?” He asked looking up at the gamma who was hovering beside the door with his lover Sho and Shun who looked very much like he wanted to play with the new arrivals.

“Of course we do! We have all kinds of flavours! I like sakura the best! But we have chocolate and mint!” Masaki said and all four of the pinched faces brightened with something like hope. “Do you want to come and get some? I’m sure that it will be more interesting than whatever your parents are going to be talking about!” The little faces dropped rapidly at that and their stances hunched over as they chewed hard on their lips. Nino knew why they were so scared and instinct had him saying;

“Masaki why don’t you bring the ice cream onto the veranda? It’s nice outside and the children will be able to see their parents through the window…That would be better right?”

“Yes, please…” The four said together and this time Nino did reach out to lightly touch at the bowed heads pulling his hand away at the first flinch.

“Okay...Shun will play with you as well…”

I hope for the best for the children. But if they ended up in Ohno household, I think they would be very protective to Nino, Masaki and Ohno for giving them their first act of kindness in life and for taking them under their wing.
