“Right the first thing that you will need to do is reassure the patient and explain what you’re going to do…” Nino said with a smile at the very eager boy who was making a great show of having an injured arm by whining and moaning pitifully. “Everything is going to be okay, we’re going to make sure that we will get your arm bandaged up and have you on your way again…”

“Thank-you, sensei!” Kyou whined a little bit too dramatically but he seemed happy and at least he wasn’t bugging him about healing.

“Okay! Then you have to make them comfortable by helping them sit or lie down in a comfortable position…Harumi-chan…” Nino said motioning to the girl who moved forward and gently pushed Kyou down onto the bed before flashing a smile of her own. “Now I’m going to need you to support the injury by holding his arm carefully…”

“Eh?! Why is she playing the role of the healer!” Kyou asked with a pout struggling to sit back up but Nino held him down easily hissing;

“Because you are the patient…Don’t worry you’ll be able to bandage Harumi later…”

“Fine…But I better!” The boy dropped back down into the bed still shooting Harumi angry looks but the girl ignored him looking at Nino with quiet expectation and Nino realised that, although she wasn’t as vocal, she was just as interested in learning as Kyou was and he gave a smile determined that they would both know all that he knew.

“Okay you start bandaging from the front of the limb, or in this case the arm, and from the side of the body…Like this…” He said slowly showing what he meant by wrapping the bandage carefully around Kyou’s arm noting the boy had stopped pouting and was watching with rapt attention. “You want to apply bandages firmly but not so tightly that it restricts their circulation…We don’t want to see any blue fingers or loose bandages…I’ll tell you how to check their circulation in a minute or two…Generally, you wrap the bandage using spiral turns working from the inside to the outside of the arm…”

“I see! My father did this once…Though it wasn’t nearly as good as you!” Harumi told him sounding loud and enthusiastic for the first time since arriving and Nino smiled continuing to wrap the bandage around the near painfully thin arm before coming to the joint.

“Now joint injuries are a little difficult but…If you make diagonal turns in a figure-of-eight above and below the joint…Like this…See…Let me show you again…” Nino breathed trying hard not to flush with too much pleasure and happiness that he seemed to be doing okay as a teacher and he showed them the joint wrapping again before moving down the rest of the arm until he reached the hand. “You want to leave fingers or the toes peeking out, if possible, so you can press them to check circulation...And then you tuck the bandage in as securely as you can so it can’t come loose...And then attach a pin…” Nino used one of the small pins that he had taken from Ohno’s dressing table surprised that they had looked almost like safety pins when they were bent over and carefully stuck it into the bandage holding it firm. “There…Now we’ll undo it and then Harumi can show me if you remember…”

“Or I could play patient and allow them both to practice?” Ohno’s voice said from the doorway and Nino looked up with a gasp of surprise his cheeks flushing. “If that is acceptable…”
