After watching the car drive away Jun pulled on his coat and headed to his parents not wanting to stay in the empty house. He still wasn't 100% sure why Nino had asked his ex to pick him up but he trusted Nino enough to not be worried and after the little speech his fiancé had given he felt as if he was walking on cloud nine. He wasn't completely convinced that Nino should take on as much as the blame as he had done but given the result he wasn't going to argue. He knew that when things were really settled they were going to be like any other couple out there that fought over stupid things. Thinking about it he and Nino were both the types of people that would argue over who started the argument but he was looking forward to that, at the moment it felt as if they were in a permanent fuzzy honey moon state. It was cute but he wanted the real relationship to start. The door to his parent’s house was open when he arrived and with a frown he stepped inside relieved that he could hear the soft sounds of his parents in the kitchen. He walked past the wall that housed his baby pictures and stepped into the archway
"What are you doing?" Jun asked suspiciously his eyes narrowing as he saw his parents and Kazuko with their heads dangerously close together. They were speaking in hushed whispers and all three almost jumped out of their chairs when he spoke.
"Ah...Jun... Has my troublesome son already gone?" Kazuko was the first to recover and she threw her grey coat over the table a stood up in a slow jerky movement making Jun even more suspicious and he folded his arms across his chest but answered her in an easy way
"Yes he just left with Sakurai and Ohno..."
"Sho-kun? Sho-kun came to pick up Kazu?" Kazuko sounded completely stunned her eyes widened and a hand flew to her mouth before she relaxed again
"Kazu asked him too..." Jun answered with a shrug expecting the round of gasps that started out from around the table.
"Oh I see... He was showing off then?" Kazuko laughed, her eyes rolling as she played with the ends if her hair. "I never realised he was so passive aggressive" Jun's eyebrow rose but he didn't question the older woman, it had felt like Nino was showing him off a little and he allowed a faintly smug smile to form on his lips until his parents laughed and he flashed them a scowl
"So what were you plotting so secretly?" He asked taking a step towards the table knowing that it was something big when his father and mother jumped to their feet his father blocking the table and his mother clapping her hands saying
"Tea? Coffee? You must want one?"
"Oh come on guys you're making me really nervous now..." Jun whined looking at the three older people when the door opened and the bulk of Yamamoto came into the room saying
"You should be careful, Jun wasn't in when I passed I think he's on his way over...oh..."
"Yes 'oh'" Jun grinned starting at the large man who looked more than a little guilty as he looked at his fiancée.
“Sorry, Kazuko…Does he know then?” He asked and Kazuko rolled her eyes and clicked her tongue
“Yer a great lump really aren’t yer?” She said coming over and putting her arms around his neck and pressing her lips onto his cheek before turning to the Matsumoto’s
“I guess we have to tell him…” His mum said relaxing back into the chair and Kazuko pulled her coat off the table. Laying there was a ring bind folder with scribbled notes and cut out photos of flowers and wedding cakes.
“You’re planning your wedding?” Jun asked with some surprise wondering why that was such a big secret. Sure he thought that Yamamoto and Kazuko were a little old to be getting married but he wasn’t against it. “Why all the secrecy?”
“Because it’s not our wedding we’re planning…” His father said putting his hand on his shoulder “I tried to tell them, but you know how your mum and Kazuko-chan are, they wanted it to be a surprise…”
“Oh, that’s nice…You were just as excited about this as us” His mum said her hand slapping against the table and Junichi
“You’re planning mine and Kazu’s wedding?” Jun said dumbly his brain trying to focus on the words and take them in. He hadn’t even thought about his wedding. It felt like some far off dream at the moment and besides, no matter what he and Nino told each other everybody had already pointed it out “It’s not a real wedding…”
“It will be as real as anybody else’s…” Yamamoto muttered a large chunky hand slapping against his back and causing him to stumble forwards a few steps “What the difference? You say some words, promise to love each other and then everyone ends up drunk…”
“What he is trying to say…Is, I think, it’s real to you that’s all that matters…Do you think that straight weddings were always so formal? It’s the feelings that count…”
“Why all the sudden self-doubt?” Junichi asked his son, carefully reading his face and Jun sighed leaning against the wall folding his arms across his chest
“With everything that’s happened with Granny-Suzuki…I just don’t think that this is the right time for this…” He said and Kazuko gave a tut
“Jun-kun, because of what happened with Granny-Suzuki that it’s the perfect time for this. We’ll have her funeral and we’ll mourn her properly but the old dear was looking forward to this wedding… Shiori-chan told you that ne? Besides the last of the idiots in this village need to see how serious about this you are… And I want to be able to celebrate my baby’s wedding day…”
“And so do we don’t we, Akio?” Junichi said softly and Akio nodded furiously pulling her ‘serious’ face and Jun gave a laugh rolling his eyes.
“Fine, so…Where have you gotten?” He said detaching himself from the wall and walking over to sit at the table surprised when he looked in the book.
“Flowers” Akio said brightly all tension leaving her body now that she knew that her son was on board with it “We were thinking two kinds either primroses or…”
“Primrose…We need primroses, for Kazu…” Jun said not blushing when the four adults stared him their lips twisting into smirks “It’s his nickname…”
“Okay, primroses...What other flowers go with primroses?” Akio asked flicking through the collection of books on the table and Jun had to wonder at the wisdom of setting up a wedding without Nino but couldn’t deny that he was feeling excited about it again. He hadn’t told Nino but things had been getting to him these last few days now, as he flipped through the book of plans, the only thing that was bothering him was
“Who’s paying for this?”
“Don’t worry about that…” Yamamoto said quickly, too quickly and Jun’s eyes narrowed sharply looking at the innkeeper and Kazuko who was looking as equally shifty
“When’s your wedding?”
“Oh…Well we don’t need a big wedding we’ve already done all that, we’ll just sign the book and have a family dinner in Aiba-kun’s restaurant…” Kazuko said linking her fingers with Yamamoto who gave her a huge sappy smile and Jun couldn’t help but smile even though he felt guilty “And before you say anything Jun-kun we’ve already decided okay…So don’t go and try to throw our present back in our faces, okay?”
“Okay…But I can’t promise that Kazu won’t…” Jun sighed looking at the garlands of flowers and wondering if it was really ‘faggy’ that he wanted lots of them with soft cream silks. Nino was too pale for pure white but an off white would make him stand out
“I can handle my son, I’ve been doing it his whole life…” She laughed but Jun was too lost in the plans that were running through his mind.
