I…Um…I’m agreeable to most things…But…I…Feel rather…exposed…” Kimiko whispered softly her cheeks flushing with embarrassment and Nino could easily understand why. He had her stripped down to the bare minimum with her hands stretched out in front of her. It wasn’t dignified but he remembered vaguely that Mrs Sakamoto from down the hall of his apartment block had been positive that the position had help to ease the pains that she had been feeling during her pregnancy and he hoped that it would help the lady Ohno now though he was sure that it was going to take a few more tried to find something that would help.
“The practice is sound…Though I admit that it is something that I heard from a friend of my mother’s…” He hummed deciding that honesty was the best policy in a situation like this. Kimiko let out a small noise of surprise and Nino was reminded that women of this era would never talk about such things in front of a boy no matter what his age “…I was accidently listening in at the door…I didn’t understand what they were talking about until much later…”
“I see…But…Why must I be so underdressed?” Kimiko huffed and Nino let out a breath trying hard not to look at the woman and her near nakedness.
“I’m sorry…But there would be too much in the way…” he whispered “I hope that you won’t mind if…I rub your back?”
“You are the healer, sir…Please feel free to do as you like…” Kimiko chuckled facing the wall again and letting out a long tired sounding breath through her nose “I am eager for the pain to subside…Though I fear that we might invoke some jealousy from my husband if he came here and saw me like this!”
“Um…I’m sorry…” Nino whispered his hands shaking a little as they rested on the woman’s back. There was a sickly nervous feeling inside his chest but somehow he managed to fight through it focusing on working his hands up and down her back in easy strokes.
“No, I must apologise…Last night…I must have confused you...Or at the very least made you curious as to the father of my child and…The strange relationship between my husband and I…The truth is…The father of my baby was my husband’s younger brother…” Kimiko whispered her voice breaking in a way that told Nino all that he really needed to know. The pair were in love but some tragedy must have befallen them “We met as children…All of us and we were friendly…But my feelings for the younger Ohno became something more…I loved him, truly I did and had he lived I would have married him even though he was the younger brother…”
“I’m sorry my lady…” Nino whispered but Kimiko somehow managed to let out a shaky laugh her head shaking quickly as she gasped;
“It was not your fault…In fact had you been here I am sure that he would have lived your skills are so great…He was never a strong boy, not like his brother or my own…” Nino’s mind was filled suddenly with the image of Ohno his opinion of him becoming greater with each word the woman spoke “A beautiful but delicate flower I always said much to his displeasure…Fighting took him in the end…I…”
“I’m sorry my lady…I don’t know what to say…I…”
“There’s nothing that can be said that hasn’t already been said…Just help me make sure his child comes safely into the world…For both my husband and my love…”
“I will do my very best, my lady…”
