Aiba hummed around the Styrofoam cup of coffee positive that he had gotten used to the constant ache that seemed to be engrained into his limbs now. His mind was still cloudy with a thousand and one thoughts but it felt much better now than it had yesterday. Nino had seemed to be in much better spirits when he had phoned him earlier, though he had still been a ratty little git at being woken up so early, and he had happily agreed to the double date saying that they could watch the new marvel film. It wasn’t exactly something that Sakurai and Ohno would enjoy, both being older than their respective partners, but both Nino and Aiba were enjoying them. He just hoped that his crushes on both Hawkeye and Thor weren’t going to be mentioned at any point in the evening but if Nino was back to being a brat he was sure it was.

“What’s got you looking so happy this morning?” Toma asked with a slow yawn coming to walk beside him looking like he had just dragged himself out of bed and Aiba couldn’t help but give a slightly wicked grin as he handed him over the second cup of spiced coffee and said;

“Your boyfriend...”

“…My boyfriend? Why? What’s he done?” Toma asked slowly recovering as he drink his coffee until he was able to give an equally evil smirk “I know he made me happy in the shower this morning but unless we’re physically linked somehow…”

“Eww…! Too much information!” Aiba huffed out his cheeks flaming a bright red as his mind was unwillingly filled with mental images of his friends doing it in the shower. It was enough to have his stomach rolling and quickly he filled his mind with fluffy kittens and puppies in a sun filled garden.

“You started it with your cryptic answer…You know I’m pretty sure most other guys our age are able to talk about this stuff…Hell I know a couple that watch porn together but you…You’re pretty innocent…” Toma shrugged as they entered the main part of their campus and headed towards their class and causing Aiba’s flush to get even stronger. He wouldn’t call himself innocent, he’d done stuff…A lot of stuff only last night…But wasn’t it normal not to want to hear about your friends sex lives? He was okay with talking about sex and stuff but he didn’t want mental images of people he cared about like that, it would be like walking in on your parents or something ”Which is weird when you’ve been friends with Nino for so long…”

“Why is that weird?” Aiba asked again wondering what the hell Nino had to do with anything, Nino had only ever been with one guy his whole life and had only been interested in one as well. Even platonic crushes on celebrities missed Nino by, which was why Aiba was so worried about his friend and his relationship with Ohno. He was sure that Nino wouldn’t do anything stupid if it came to that but he couldn’t swear to it.

“Nino looks…I dunno perverted? I know he and Ohno have done half the karma sutra…”

“He just says that kind of stuff for attention…” Aiba giggled looking around the crowed hallways before hissing in a low tone “Um…Toma…Do you think…Um I mean…Ohno do you think he’s being weird? With Nino I mean…?”

“…A little yesterday, they didn’t seem to be permanently attached at the hip…But that’s understandable…Everyone’s working so hard…” Toma shrugged draining the last of his coffee with a satisfied smile before dropping it into what seemed to be the only bin in the building “…But everyone has a rough patch…They just need some time…”

“That’s what Sho-chan said! He even arranged for us to go on a double date with them!” Aiba said glad to have almost the same thing said back to him from somebody else, it really did make it feel like Nino was just over thinking things and everything would work out for the best. Toma gave him a wide grin running his fingers through his untidy hair a few times trying to straighten it out before he clicked his back and hummed;

“There you see, they’ll be back to being disgustingly happy in no time, come on finish your coffee…We’d better get into class…We only have this today and then we can get going to the house…You have brought your car with you right? I still can’t believe you were given a sports car…”

“I’ve got it! I wouldn’t ask you to help without letting you in the car, ne?!” Aiba grinned draining the drink and throwing it away. “You can even drive it if you like…”

“Sweet…You really are the best…” Toma chirped looking livelier than he did as he practically raced the last couple of feet to the classroom. Aiba laughed loudly following after his friend happy that he only had a two hour class to sit through before he could get back to the house determined to make sure that the windows in the room were just the way that he wanted them to be.

The lesson was over more quickly than he had expecting it to be. It wasn’t that it was shorter in time but it didn’t drag as much as he was expecting and it wasn’t long before he and Toma were in the car moving through the streets very close to the maximum speed limits. Toma seemed to be having the best time in the world and Aiba grinned to himself enjoying the time to just sit and think. There wasn’t any particular thought going through his mind and it actually felt calm for the first time in a long time but he wasn’t surprised when they pulled up outside of the large seven foot high fence that Toma turned to him and asked;

“Are you okay, Masaki?”

“Yes! Of course! Why?” He said with a forced kind of brightness that had Toma cocking his head to one side and staring at him shrewdly before he gave a sort of shrug and murmured;

“…Because…I dunno you seem dimmer than normal…”

“Hey! Was that implying that I’m thicker!?” Aiba joked pushing at his friends arm, sending him rocking in the car seat, even though he knew what he was getting at.

“What? No…If anything you’re acting older…What I mean is you are normally a 100 watt bulb, bright and shiny…But now you seem to be only about 40 watts…I think that Ohno isn’t the only one that needs a break…”

“I’m fine! Better than ever!”

“You are a great friend, Masaki but a really lousy liar…” Toma chuckled his fingers drumming on the steering wheel “You help everyone else so much that people tend to forget that you might need some help…You know that we’re all here for you too you know? You might be our sunshine but you can rely on us if anything ever feels like it’s too much for you to handle…”

“I think Toma-kun is in the wrong course! You should be doing therapy not veterinary…” Aiba joked weakly touched by what his friend had said but not really willing to admit that he was having any difficulty. Mostly because he honestly didn’t feel pressured, he was feeling tired recently but everybody was. “I’m okay…I just want to get the house done for Sho-chan! When the house is done…”

“Sho will have gotten out of the hospital and you will be caring for him…” Toma finished for him in a blunt tone “You’re not going to be getting a break…”

“I’m fine! I’m touched by your concern! But it will be completely different then! Yes Sho-chan will be in a lot of pain but it will be different from having to move stuff around…” Aiba mumbled confidently knowing that caring for his lover would be lot easier than building a house for him. “I’m not expecting it to be sunshine and roses when he first gets back but…Right now…I’m just hoping that he comes back…” Aiba whispered surprised at himself “The rest of it…It doesn’t matter as long as nothing goes wrong…”

A/N: I think that Aiba is less sparkly than when the story started but he has a lot of stress at the moment ne, at least he has good friends ^_^
