Ohno smiled almost sleepily as the door to his office opened and Nino’s head poked into the small gap smiling happily at him as he gave a salute. Pushing away the remains of his memory the lawyer beckoned his lover in happy to see him as well as the tote bag that was swinging freely and happily at his side.
“Yo…Got time for a lunch break?” He murmured before frowning, his eyes running slowly over his face and he asked gently “Everything okay? You look…I dunno thoughtful…”
“Yes…I’m fine…” Ohno sighed his arm snaking around his waist pulling him down onto his lap while Nino began to empty out the contents of his bag onto the desk. Ohno wondered if he knew or cared that he was acting like a housewife. It was the last thing he would have ever imagined when he walked in to that cramped and damp interview room and saw the thin surly looking teenager glaring at him. He gave a smile at the memory and lightly kissed the curve of his neck murmuring out gently “I was just remembering…”
“Remembering…What?” Nino hummed serving out the green tea into two cups and handing him one before joking weakly “It can’t be anything good if it’s enough to give you that expression…”
“I was remembering the day you burst into my life…” Ohno chuckled honestly not expecting Nino to jump up at of his arms and stare at him like he had just seen a ghost. The confident, self-assured Nino that he had come to love and adore over the last year was gone leaving him with the same teenager that had been so afraid of his own shadow that he had treated everybody with indifference and scorn.
“Wow…And it makes you look like that?” Nino whispered letting out a very shaky laugh as he ran his fingers through his hair “Is there something wrong…Are you going to break up with me?”
“Of course not idiot, why would you even ask that?” Ohno hummed getting to his own feet and crossing the short distance between them and holding him by the shoulders and Nino gave a small shrug looking at him with still guarded eyes saying;
“Because you looked…Like that…I dunno…Depressed…”
“You do realise what today is don’t you?”
“The day you break up with me apparently…” Nino huffed causing Ohno to give a sigh and walk back to open the door pulling out the envelope that he had been meaning to take home that night. He had been planning this for a few days and had meant to buy flowers as well but since his lover was panicking it would have to be now. He took a deep calming breath and then turned back to his lover saying in his calm and controlled voice;
“Please stop saying that I’m breaking up with you…More so when I wanted to give you this…”
“What…?” Nino frowned looking at the envelope but Ohno pushed it further to him.
“Open it…”
Slowly Nino broke the seal and pulled out the few papers, there weren’t many of them…Just a few but what they said would change their lives forever. It took Nino a few minutes to read what was there and then a few more for him to process it before he looked at him with wide eyes and an open mouth whispering;
“Adoption?”
“Yes…I am hoping that you will join my…” Ohno wasn’t able to finish his sentence before Nino was throwing himself at him with his face into his chest screaming out:
“Yes! Yes…! But…”
“No buts…I know what you’re going to say and I don’t care…I love you…Two years ago today you changed my life…I am not going to live without you…So…You agree…You’ll…Marry me?”
“Yes…Yes I’ll marry you, old man…” Nino answered his face staying buried into his chest and Ohno knew that he was crying but wouldn’t let him see. Smiling his eyes went to the photo of his sister that was now on his desk and he was positive that just for a moment her smile seemed wider before he closed his own eyes and hugged the boy that had given him back his heart.
