Kazu and Jun sat on the deck staring out at what appeared to be an endless ocean watching the way the light played with the tips of the waves. It was a calming scene and Kazu was finding himself enjoying it.

“What do you like doing?” Jun asked softly surprising him and he turned with confused look on his face asking;

“Huh?”

“Well…Kazuko pointed it out but I’ve realised that I don’t know that much about you…” Jun shrugged looking nervous and surprisingly awkward before humming “What are your hobbies and interests?”

“You make it sound like your interviewing me…” Nino snorted a little giving a shrug of his own and running his fingers through the hair on the back of his neck “I like baseball…”

“Me too…Do you play?”

“There was never…Money…I played on the school team…But…Equipment costs money…” Kazu shrugged slowly. They had never gone without the necessities. Clothes, books, and food were always given in abundance but extras had been a no…There had been many things that he had tried at school and enjoyed but there had never been money for. Baseball was one of them, piano and guitar was another. He had been fairly good at both…Or at least his teacher had said so but to really improve he would need to be able to practice every day and have proper lessons with a professional, something that wasn’t going to happen. He wasn’t the only one that had faced disappointment, Masaki had been picked for the basketball team but the cost of uniform and training camps had put the dream out of his reach the same with Yusuke. There had been times growing up when he had wondered if things would have been easier for them without him.

“You should play…There’s a team near where I live, I’ve often thought of joining but…I don’t want to be on my own…” Jun was saying carefully and Kazu pulled his mind away from his depressing thoughts so he could look at his nervous looking father who had become a soft looking pink as he chomped on his bottom lip like a chipmunk. “I’d be more than happy to cover the costs…I know that you’ll be busy with your exams…”

“I’m not to be taking exams…Since I’m not going to university it doesn’t really matter…” Kazu hummed with another shrug trying not to flush when Jun’s eyes narrowed in his direction “What…You really thought we could afford to go to college? Masaki and Yusuke are going but…”
“If its money…”

“It’s not…” Kazu lied and they both knew it, he had already had the same argument with his proper parents he wasn’t going to have it again with Jun “I don’t need to go to college if I’m just going to be making sure that Ohno paints…You can just show me what to do…”

“It’s not about that…It’s about the experience of college…” Jun sighed, somehow managing to use the same argument as his father and Kazu smiled sliding over to him and giving him a hug that neither of them were expecting. It didn’t last particularly very long and it was awkward, nothing like when he hugged his proper father or Ohno but it felt nice and it managed to shut him up.

“That is very sweet of you, but I’m fine…I don’t need the experience of going to college…But thank-you…Ah lunch! Come on…Hopefully Oh-chan will be able to tell us where we’re going!”
