On Gossamer Wings part 80
Ohno sat back in his chair enjoying the effect his words had had on the couple in front of him. Both Shoko and Masaki were bright red and looking everywhere and everywhere but at each other while the reporter’s hands were gripping the tabled until her knuckles were white. The artist chuckled a little drawing her eyes up to him and she scowled very briefly and grumbled;
“I…I thought that we were conducting your interview…Not trying to interfere in my private life…”
“…Ah sorry…But Masaki-kun is a good friend of mine and…He is completely in love with you…Of course he doesn’t think that he’s good enough for you…” Ohno told her softly leaning forward now making sure that Masaki couldn’t overhear him even though he flicked his eyes in the boy’s direction. “Or that he’s too young…I thought that I would have to do a lot more subtle persuading but since I could see that you liked him…”
“…I can’t understand why you would be so interested in the love affairs of a teenaged boy…” Shoko hissed in the same quiet voice and Ohno gave a delicate roll of his shoulders flashing her what he knew to be his most charming smile his head cocking to one side as he pretended to think about it. His reason for this was simply because he wanted to pay Masaki back for supporting and encouraging his brother. He knew that without that encouragement he wouldn’t have gotten anywhere and he would have missed out on something that he thought to be pretty special.
“I have my reasons…But trust me when I say that Masaki’s…And your own happiness is my priority…” He said softly his mind swimming with images of Kazu wondering if he was okay on his meeting with Jun or if it was as stressful as he had been thinking.
“And are you going to tell me your reasons?”
“Nope except what I’ve already told you…Masaki’s a friend…and I want to insure his happiness, I suppose you could say that I’m feeling indulgent…” He hummed grinning again as he reluctantly forced away the images of Jun and Kazu. Shoko gave a weak sounding laugh righting herself up and resting against the back of his chair her eyes going to Masaki who seemed to be frozen in place beside her.
“Just because that’s the way you’ve proudly said you’ve lived your life doesn’t mean…” She started with a soft, pained sigh closing her eyes before turning her face back from the teen looking like she was giving up and Ohno realised that she was doubting that Masaki cared about her the way she cared about him.
“You’re both idiots…” He muttered accidently aloud cutting off her speech knowing that he had no other choice but roll with it when they turned to look at him “Seriously, if I could see it after five minutes of being alone with you how come you can’t? Masaki…Why don’t you tell Shoko-chan how much you cried when you read that stupid article about her…”
“You cried?” Shoko asked breathlessly and although he looked like he was going to kill him when he got the chance Masaki nodded biting on his lip.
“…Yeah…I mean…I didn’t like that they were saying bad stuff about you…You’re prefect you know…”
“Aww Masaki…You idiot…” Shoko laughed her cheeks going a very bright red as she looked down at her tightly clasped hands.
“You’re the idiot…”
“You’re both idiots…” Ohno sighed pinching the bridge of his nose with his thumb and forefinger “But I think we have a break through!”
