You...Are Kazu’s blood…Donor?” Masahiko asked staring at Jun in disbelief and Kazu almost found himself blushing at his father’s term of donor but he supposed that he should have expected it. He didn’t call Kazuko his birth mother he wasn’t going to call Jun his father. Jun didn’t seem to be that hurt or surprised though and he gave a small nod answering slowly;
“I…There’s a strong possibility that I am…We…There is a doctor that has agreed to do a DNA test for us…”
“But you’re a kid…” Masahiko spluttered and Kazu bit on his tongue hard to stop himself from snorting with laughter at the look that crossed over Jun’s face. He looked offended and embarrassed all at once with two bright spots of colour forming in his cheeks as his jaw locked and he muttered;
“I’m 32…I would have been 15 when Kazu was conceived…”
“Two children having a child…” Masahiko muttered under his breath getting to his feet and paced around awkwardly his hands twitching like he wanted something to be in them but he wasn’t sure what. He was still wearing his chief’s whites having come up from the kitchen fifteen minutes before. It was like looking at a caged lion squaring off with a male tiger as Jun began to twitch as well and Kazu wished that they had gone about this a different way. He should have talked to his parents alone but he had been so confused with what had happened on the boat and Jun had been so understanding that asking him to be with him when he told them had been a logical thing but now he was imagining what it must look like from his dad’s point of view and it wasn’t good.
“…I admit that what Kazuko and I did was wrong but I didn’t…I didn’t know about Kazu until I bumped into him at the gallery…” Jun said his tone still calm but it was only just and Kazu hoped that he would be been able to keep calm and not act like he had on the boat. Masahiko looked up at him his eyes narrowing into dangerous slits as he asked;
“And what would you have done if you did know? If the girl came to you and told you that you would done?”
“I…I would have been terrified and I would have urged Kazuko to…” Jun trailed off for a moment his mouth opening and closing a few times and Kazu’s heart pounded painfully as he waited for the finish of that sentence but his dad cut in hissing;
“Abort him?”
“No! I would have asked her to keep him…” Jun snapped angrily his eyes flashing with anger as his hand came out to grip at Kazu’s shoulder tightly “But I didn’t…I wasn’t told…I wasn’t given any option…And to be perfectly honest sir, I think that that was a good thing…I would have wanted to keep him…But…I wouldn’t have been able to give him a family…I wouldn’t have been able to look after him…You’re right…I was a kid…”
“And now?”
“Now…Now I want to know the truth…As much as Kazu does…I’m not saying that I could ever be his father but…I want to know…”
“Then you’d better do it then…”
