After the feast Ohno led his beloved and future sister out into the wilderness that lay just outside of the Draven castle. Although it had only been a few short hours it had been set up to resemble the villages of the highlands. Canvas tents, decorated with the flags of his peoples and Ohno felt at ease for the first time since he had arrived at the castle. He lift eyes up to the sky, breathing deep and smelling the soft and clean scent of the forest and the sight of the moon. Her pale light spread out of the dark sky as if shining her approval of their meeting.
“That is better…” Ohno breathed once they had settled down onto the bank looking at the moonlight playing around with the ripples on the water. It was a beautiful spot even without being the highlands. The shadows from the fire caused the white birch trees to look like ladies dancing over on the other side of the bank and he wondered if his lover had ever learned to see the magic of such things. He doubted it, there didn’t seem anything that his lover had been allowed to do. He turned and smiled at the boy who was sitting quietly and meekly beside him holding his legs with his arms his chin resting on his knees. “We can breathe again…I will never understand the human condition for living inside stone buildings…Only the dead should remain there…”
“Your grace…” The boy whispered inclining his head just a little and Ohno sighed nobbling on his lip and wondering if he was going about this all wrong. The boy had been promised to him by his father but his ways were not the boy’s ways, he had been brought up amongst humans and as far as he knew they did not agree with two of the same sex. He looked at the boy again watching the way that the hair fell around his face. He was more delicate than his father had been and he was young enough to know very little of the world. He was beautiful though and Ohno knew that from the moment that he had seen him he wanted him but it was a harsh thought given that the boy appeared to be afraid of his own shadow and appeared to be in pain.
“I must apologise to you…” He said just as music started around them with men and womenfolk dancing in the glow of the moon. Nino turned to him with surprise clear in his face, another painful reminder of how cruel his beloved life must have been. Yurrin would have cut down the humans like dogs for what they had done to his child. Had he lived he would have done. “I have taken you as my lover without asking you your feelings…”
“…My feelings your grace…?” The boy whispered as he hunched his body over while still sitting close to him. His face was blank as if he wasn’t even sure what had been said and Ohno cursed the cruelty of the family that had raised him knowing that had his friend not been given to the stone he would have wrought justice on them for treating his kin in such a way.
“I am no rapist…Have no fear, if you decide that you do not wish me as a lover then…Accept me as a friend…” Ohno whispered making sure that nobody but Nino could hear them “Either way, beloved, I will take you away from here…And I will fulfil my promise…”
“…Your grace…I…Forgive me…I…” Nino whispered slowly his eyebrows knitting together quickly and his lips pursing together to cause a cute pout on his lips “I…Don’t understand…I’m simple…”

“No…” Ohno denied so quickly and sharply that Nino flinched back a little until he saw that he was still smiling that same gentle smile as he reached out and took his hand squeezing it gently and brushing his lips against his fingers “This is very confusing for you, beloved…But I will help you to understand…”
“Thank-you, your grace…” He whispered looking down at his hand as it was released a pleasant buzzing creeping through him and the elf king laughed loudly shaking his head and telling him;
“You should try and call me by my name…Satoshi or Ohno as it suits you…We are going to be together for a long time, beloved…”
“I…”
“Brother! Isn’t this wonderful!” Arianna cried landing down beside him her elven guide hovering at her side. He was a proud and dark, with blue black hair and dark brown eyes framed with just as black eyelashes. There was a dagger at his side and on his back was a quiver of arrows he smiled though and his eyes were soft as he looked at his sister “The music and everything…Ah this is Seir Jun Matsumoto…I think that he must look scary but he is very nice…”
“I am happy that I meet with your approval my lady…” Jun said with a bow sitting down beside them and offering her a drink. Nino watched his sister amazed at how confident she was and how she moved as if her blindness wasn’t even a factor.
“It would seem that you have been granted the gift of the sight, my lady Arianna…A rare gift…” Ohno said softly to the girl “Your nanny…I assume…”
“She taught me that just because the fever took my eyes it did not mean I had to become a victim to it…” Arianna said primly once again losing Nino as he became aware of the fact that even if his sister was blind she was still far above him.
“And so you should not my lady…” Jun told her as he filled up her goblet again “You are far too beautiful to live a life in the shadows…”
“And you have a silver tongue my lord…” Arianna giggled her cheeks flushing a soft rosy pink before turning to Ohno “Your grace you promised that you would tell us the story of the gods of the mountain…”
“Indeed I did and indeed I shall…” Ohno agreed grabbing a goblet of his own and Nino immediately lifted the bottle of drink from in front of them and poured it with a bowed head. “Thank-you my beloved…”
“…Your grace…”
“Well, I said there is not much for the tale…” Ohno told them his arm coming to wrap around his waist as more of the elves come to the fire side crowding around them “I and my friend Yurrin, your father, heard the tales of the gods of the mountain…We were young and most would say foolish, were the normal folk would turn tale and run from the stories we took them as a challenge and we set from our home in the highlands to travel up to the mountains. For many months we travelled going higher and higher into the wilderness until finally we found them, the gods of the mountain. They were the fattest of trolls wearing clothing made of their victims both animal and men. Each stood over 10 feet tall and had muscles as big as your whole body, beloved…”
“And…You killed them?” Nino whispered his eyes as wide as dinner plates as his heart hammered against his ribs and Ohno chuckled stroking a lock of hair out of his face and tucking it behind his ear as he answered;
“Yes, we did indeed, beloved…Though…That was not our first instinct, in truth when we came upon these monstrous beasts we had it in our mind to run and never look back…” He chuckled a little then and Nino flushed brightly as he thought how attractive he looked “But…they had caught our scent and they followed us as we tried to escape…We were racing down the mountain with the beasts hot on our heels when to my shame I tripped on a branch and ended up face first in the snow…That would have been the sad end of my very short life if not for the fact that Yurrin jumped out and stabbed the one closest to him in the eye…”
“So he saved you?” Nino asked hanging on every word the elven king was saying and Ohno nodded taking a swig from his goblet and then offering it out to him. Nino hesitantly took it and stared at the clear liquid inside for a moment before bringing it to his lips and almost moaning with pleasure as the liquid honey touched his lips. It was better than anything he had ever tasted before and something about it settled his heart and he relaxed against the king.
“He did indeed…I confess that I do not remember much of the battle after that…” the elf chuckled his fingers running up and down his side in a natural and familiar way and Nino thought that it felt good even though he wasn’t used to such touching “It was confused but when it ended we were alive and they were dead…And we were called the slayers of the gods...”
“You were very brave your grace...” Nino whispered softly drinking from the drink again his head slumping even further into him the warm buzz filling his head. He was about to drink some more but Ohno held his wrist tightly laughing a little saying;
“No more, beloved…You are unused to such things…I will not have you drunk…There is still much entertainment to be had…This after all is a joyous day…I have found you at last and I intend never to give you up…”
