Hybrid part 15

“You knew the Ohno’s?”

“One Ohno. She worked as a nurse...” The older Jun said and Nino swallowed. He could remember his mum telling him that his great grandma had been a nurse. She told him that he should always be proud of her though never went into details why. “I can safely say that without her none of you would have been in this room...”

quo;So exciting!” Cass said clapping her hands together and the older Jun smiled fondly his finger running around the rim of his wine glass.

“You youngsters think Wolves have it bad now, and you do. There is a lot of hate in the world...But back then, then if you were a wolf you didn’t leave your home for fear of being chased in the street...” He hummed softly looking over at the two foxes “My wife and I were the only wolves in the town at that point. I wanted to make a name for myself, I wanted to stop hiding in the country...Of course when your grandma was pregnant for the first time there was nobody that we could turn to, hospitals turned us away. People avoided us in the street except that one woman. She looked like the young’un, ears were just as large, her eyes were the colour of molten gold. She had seen us from the window of the hospital and decided that rules or no rules, fear or no fear she was going to help. She came out to us and had us bring her home. Your mum was breech the babies were coming out arse first and tearing her apart with it...”

“The twins...?”

“Yup, My eldest...They started their own pack now, in another city...” Older Jun hummed with a fond smile his eyes still glazed over as he continued to run his wizened finger around the rim of the glass causing it to sing loudly. “My darling was almost dead from exhaustion but that fox stayed right by her side treating her and repairing her when it was all over. Then when she knew she would make it she smiled and left. I only just managed to get her name. When I went to the hospital to thank her I found out she had been fired and she had gone off...I never got to thank her...”

“Amazing...And you think that it was a relation to these two?” One of the guard wolves asked and the old man gave him a look that quite clearly said ‘are you really that stupid’

“I’m as sure of it as I am sitting here. It’s not often you meet a fennec in Japan and not one with the name Ohno...” The old man got shakily to his feet as he said that and then came pottering over to both Nino and Satoshi. He stopped a few feet away and then very slowly he got down onto his knees fixing them with a sincere look before pressing his face into the floor. “Thank-you on behalf of your grandmother...”

“No! I’m sure she was only doing what she knew was right! Please...” Satoshi gasped as Nino stared in open mouthed shock at the man before him. Never had he seen an adult thank anyone so seriously. The man slowly righted his back and broke the silence that had fallen by letting out a bark of a laugh.

“She said the same thing...But still I say the words to you that I would have said to her. You are pack, we are not of the same blood but fate has brought you to us and we are your family...” He said seriously and Nino felt a tingle running around the room at the words and they seemed to be more than just empty promises. He looked at his brother and then Jun who gave him a smile but looked as serious as the rest of the room. “If you ever need help we will do our best to fulfil it, nothing could match what your grandma did for us but wolves never forget...”

“Thank-Thank-you very much...I’m...I’m very glad that my grandmother could aide you and I am sure she is happy now...” Satoshi whispered sounding breathless and Nino nodded along determined to dig out pictures of his grandmother and see if it really was her. The elder Jun nodded happily and then tried to get up his back creaking with the effort.

*Jun PoV*

Jun jumped out of his chair to help his grandfather to his feet. Marie took the other side and gently they eased him up. One look at his sister told him that she was surprised as he was but was positively brimming with excitement. For Jun he couldn’t believe it. A family connection that was deep was surprising and he knew that he wasn’t the only one that couldn’t believe the coincidence of it and he thought again about what the nurse had said about fated pairs. He didn’t believe in that, but maybe there was something. Something had made him drawn to Nino that morning. It wasn’t the first time his class had gotten a transfer student but none of them had interested him the way Nino had and it wasn’t just because he was cute.

Then there was the fact that of all the places he had been wandering that afternoon of all the parks in the city where he could have gone for his bread he chose the one where Nino was hiding in the bushes. It was as though something he couldn’t understand was connecting them together like tangled threads of fate. A tug at his sleeve made him look at Nino who was holding up his book saying;

“Can we talk?”

“Yup, of course...In the garden?” Jun smiled and Nino nodded looking happy as they walked out of the suddenly too crowded house. Jun wouldn’t claim to be a mind reader but he was positive that Nino was going to have questions about what had just happened and he hoped that he remembered enough family history and pack rules to be able to explain everything. Being summer the sun was still up in the sky as they wandered around the garden and Nino took him to the humped bride and stood in the centre of it looking out over the river that was covered with lotus blossoms. He looked...Like a painting...If he were wearing a kimono Jun could easily see him as one of the ancient Kitsune in the paintings in the museum and he thought that if he was his fated mate then he couldn’t be luckier. “So, what do you want to talk about?”

“...Your grandpa...What he said was surprising right? Did you know?”

“Nobody did, we knew my grandma had a difficult first birth but the rest that was a surprise. Your grandma must have been amazing...”

“Great Grandma...She died before I was born...My mum always said that she was amazing though. She said that we had to be proud...” Nino wrote before smiling shyly “So me and my brother are pack now?”

“Yup, the head of the family has spoken...You are pack now...And I promise that I will look after you! Not that I wouldn’t already...But...Its been a long day full of revelations...I can see being around you is going to be exciting, my Kitsune, I’m looking forward to what happens next...” He joked while at the same time dreading it. Looking after Nino was going to be a full time job but at least he had something pretty to look at.

A/N: I hope that this is okay >.<
