 Jun sat in the corner of the tavern watching Nino carefully. The human had been playing his games for almost three hours and Jun could tell that those he was playing with were growing increasingly more irritated with each win. Nino on the other hand was positively delighted, not that it showed on his face. His face was clear and his expression focused as he eyed the cards in his hands. Jun could tell that he was delighted however because he was probably the only person on earth that knew his Horde’s tell. Nino’s nose twitched ever so slightly to either the right or the left depending on if he had a good or bad hand. His nose had gone to the right hours ago and it was only a matter of time before he announced another victory. It was a familiar pattern and one that Jun knew would end in a tavern brawl, a brawl that he would have to intervene with. Nobody was going to hurt his human and get away with it after all.

“It looks like I win again” Nino said in a sing song voice placing his cards down onto the table before scraping the money towards him. He only managed to get it half way across the table before on of those he was playing with stood up and growled.

 “You’re a cheat...” A blade was in his hand before all the words left his mouth and Jun shot up from his table and stalked over to his human. Silently he stepped between Nino and the man and very lightly growled. “What are you? His heavy? Tell your boss...”

“Um...Excuse me, technically he’s my boss...” Nino spoke up from behind Jun’s back and Jun knew he would be poking his head out under his arm. “I am his storyteller after all, but I’m not a cheat, I can’t help it if you’re such a lousy player. Honestly, I’ve seen dogs with more brains...”

“That is enough, Nino” Jun spat as more of the tables occupants started to get to their feet. Jun was confident he could take them all on but there was a real chance that Nino would get hurt by accident and that would be unacceptable. “Gentlemen, although he is a brat, and an annoyance he is my brat and annoyance. I would like to ask you to think again before deciding to teach him a lesson...”

“Oh, and why the hell should we do that?”

“Because I asked you to? You are already out of pocket, I’m sure you don’t want to be hurt and out of pocket. Because if you continue the way you are that is all that will happen...” Jun explained gently using the tone that he knew would work. It was confident and certain and when he allowed his eyes to change for just a second everybody at the table grew uncomfortable and started to wonder if it was actually a good idea to go. “My suggestion is you take the pieces of silver I am willing to give you, buy yourselves a drink and go home to your wives and children...”

“And if we don’t?” A bolder and stupider member of the table asked with a growl and Jun shot him a pointed stare. His eyes flashed purple once again and he knew small scales appeared where his eyebrows should be. Those around the man had started to detach themselves already but now they shifted uncomfortably and looked for all the world as though they had no connection what-so-ever to the stupid man that couldn’t understand what was happening around him.

“Then there will be no silver, no drink at the bar, and you will go home with more than just wounded pride. Understood?” Jun asked quietly and although the other five had started to nod licking their lips nervously idiot sneered saying;

“There are six of us and only two of you...”

“Actually, there is only one of me. You wouldn’t think I would allow my storyteller to fight do you? But trust me when I say, not even a thousand men against me would make it an even match for you...Take the silver and leave...” Jun whispered and before the dumb ox like man could make any more stupid remarks the one nearest to him hit him over the back of the head saying quickly;

“Yeah, I think a drink and home is what’s needed, right lads? No need for unpleasantness, clearly we were mistaken...”

“I’m glad you see sense. Here six pieces of silver, enjoy your night gentleman. Nino, gather your winnings...”

“Yep, thanks boss” Nino grinned happily skipping around from behind him and pushing the money into a small bag that he carried for this. Jun gave the money to the humans and then pushed his human out of the tavern shooting him a long questioning stare as he asked;

“Do you cheat?”

“Nope, no point...I know how to cheat so I know for a fact that at least two of them were cheating but I don’t...Come on, I need to get this to the orphanage...” Nino said swinging the bag at his said and Jun rolled his eyes wondering if it was possible for a dragon to grow grey due to stress. It wasn’t heard of but then again neither was having a human for a horde. Nino stopped a few feet away and looked over his shoulder at him with his cheeks a little pink with embarrassment as he whispered “Thanks, for always looking out for me...I know you probably have better things to do...”

“What could be better than watching you be happy?” Jun said the words before he could stop himself and Nino blinked in confusion for a moment before his expression cleared and his cheeks grew warmer.

“So...Mister dragon...You like to see me happy?” He asked and Jun swallowed deciding that although this wasn’t the way he had ever imagined confessing but what the hell. It was an opening and he might as well take it and he said slowly;

“...If I do?”

“I’m not a goat...”

“...I can see that...”

“You know what I mean...I’m not a goat...I’m not something that you can watch just cause it pleases you...I’m...I’m...I have feelings too...” Nino rambled tying himself into knots before growling and stalking back over to him. “Five years...Five years I’ve wanted you to...Damn it...” Jun blinked as suddenly lips were against his and thin human arms were wrapped around his neck holding him tightly as he was kissed passionately but also nervously.
