EDIT OF MY STORY...
Lord Satoshi Ohno has been a recluse since his wife died tragically four years ago. He has three children in need of a tutor…
Kazunari Ninomiya is the son of a loving but poor gentleman. He has had a year in Oxford and is out to make money to help his family, his brother get him a placement with Lord Ohno….
“Edwin Ninomiya. I have received your letter regarding your brother. You say that he is recently returned from Oxford. As you have rightly ascertained I am in need of a tutor for my son and I would be happy to take the boy on at my home for a period of a month. If by which time he has managed some improvement in the boy then I will make the position permanent. Send the boy to me on the 29th of this month. Yours Ohno…”

“You found me work?” Kazunari Ninomiya asked in disbelief looking at the short letter his eldest brother had given him. He had returned from Oxford only the week before having been unable to finish his study due to a lack of funds. His father, a dear man with more compassion than most, had inherited land but no money from his own father and had had more children than his salary allowed. A small capital from his mother’s father had allowed Kazunari to attend a year at Oxford and he had hoped that he might secure a job in town perhaps as a book shop clerk or in a gentleman’s club.

“Yes, it is with Lord Ohno of Nottinghamshire. You are to be tutor to his son and heir” Edwin answered saying only what was in the letter and Kazunari couldn’t believe how tired he looked. It had been a month since the death of their beloved father and he had taken on the role as head of the house but it seemed to have aged him by a good ten years.

“Lord Ohno? I’m afraid I don’t know the gentleman” Kazunari hummed softly, his head lightly cocking to one side.
“Nor should you, he is well above us in money and situation, Nino” Edwin sighed using the pet name all the Ninomiya siblings used for their youngest sibling. Edwin had changed so much in the last year that Nino was glad to see that he hadn’t forgotten that he was as kind as their father. “He is something of a recluse now, has been since the death of his wife, but I had the good fortune to hear that he was in the need of a good tutor and I put your name forward”

“Were you even introduced to him?”

“Not him personally no, but I had the letter delivered through a distant aunt of the man who I am associated with. Clearly, he didn’t mind or we would not be having this conversation” Edwin smiled, just a little, not enough that it reached his eyes but enough that it lifted the corners of his mouth and Kazunari wanted to hug him the way that he would have when he was a child. Although he had planned to head to London and take any job he might find he was glad that that had been lifted from him.

“I was to find work in town” He mumbled and Edwin rolled his eyes and shook his head. All of his family knew that he hated the town and the people of the town and the stupid games that they played.

“Don’t be silly Nino, you know that you wouldn’t be happy in town. You loath the city and all it stands for”

“But if it was to aid the family…” Kazunari protested knowing that his brother was right. Oxford had been bad enough with all the people that had been milling around. He had found it dirty and stifling, he loved the country and the fields and woodland around his home.

“You can aid the family this way and stay away from the town as much as you are able, I have never been but from what I’ve heard Lord Ohno’s home is one of the most beautiful in the whole of England and he has finer woodland than father ever did” Edwin smiled again his warm brown eyes managing to get some of the old twinkle now. The promise of forests was tantalising to Nino. He had never been a lover of outdoor pursuits but he had always enjoyed being lost in the woods of his father’s estate, an estate that had almost been completely sold now to pay their father’s debts. The new owner had said that he was allowed to work them still but he hadn’t had the heart to do so.

“And what of my sisters?” Kazunari asked knowing that the three girls were waiting outside in the same way he had. Only his oldest sister had married and moved away though the girls were still young enough to find partners if they should choose to do so. Edwin looked pained, and Nino knew that this was hard on him but eventually he held up another stack of letters saying;

“I have found them placements also, neither as grand as your own Nino but they will be happy enough. I cannot offer them a dowry of more than 50 pounds apiece so it is unlikely that they will make a good match but father taught them well and they will make fine governesses”

“Father taught us all well” Kazunari whispered his eyes going to the painting behind what was now his brother’s desk. His eldest sister had painted it when she was just 16 and it showed their father dressed in his best with his faithful dog on his knee and all his children around him. The man had been something of an eccentric refusing to separate the learning of girls and boys teaching all four of his daughters the same way he had taught his two sons leaving him with sensible girls who knew the way the world worked. “I miss him, Eddie”

“I know, Nino, I miss him too. Every time I enter this study I expect to see him sitting her with his welcoming smile and his kind advice. I have no idea what I am doing and if I am doing what father would have wanted” Edwin admitted sounding so young and scared that Kazunari moved around the desk and wrapped his arms around his neck. Edwin gave a slightly wet chuckle and squeezed him back as Kazunari said softly;

“You are as good as father was, Eddie, and he is here...In spirit. Thank-you for taking care of this for me and I promise, I will not let you down”

“I have no doubt of that, but now you may go and teach what father did to somebody who will one day have the power to change things” Edwin told him and Kazunari gave him a smile nodding hoping that this Lord Ohno knew what was coming his way.
