Nino stood nervously on stage that had been decorated like that of Santa’s grotto with a man dressed up as the big red guy. With the lights in his eyes he couldn’t really see the watching crowds, but it didn’t matter. He hadn’t seen Satoshi all night. The man had promised Sho that he would be there, but it appeared that he had gotten cold feet at the last moment. Nino was disappointed, but he refused to ruin Masaki’s night and had pretended to enjoy himself ignoring people probing him about his relationship with Satoshi. It wasn’t as though he had to lie, he didn’t even know what his relationship with Satoshi was.
“Next up with have Aiba Masaki, the indispensable PA to our very own Sakurai Sho…” Santa hummed happily coming over to Masaki as Yuna from accounts walked down the steps to meet with the man that had won her at the auction. She looked particularly happy with her victor and Nino wondered if they were dating. He’d clapped happily for her and the other three girls that had suffered the fate that he had. “Don’t worry, sir! We will make sure he’s safe and sound” Santa laughed almost nervously his eyes going over to the bar where Sho was standing with one arm resting on the wood while his hand was wrapped around a beer bottle. The man gave a cheerful smile and nod while Masaki let out a funny little squeak. “Okay, who wants to start the bidding”
A loud buzz of voices started calling out figures happily and Nino watched his friend becoming more and more embarrassed. He gave a smile looking at Sho who was sipping at his beer slowly. There was something in his eyes that told Nino that Masaki wouldn’t have to wait long. Sure enough a few seconds later Sho cleared his throat and called out loudly;
“10,000”
“Eh?!” Masaki shrieked so loudly that Nino had to flinch and glare at him, at least playfully. The man was entitled to be happy right now and Nino wondered if Masaki’s bed would still be a virgin once everything had been settled between them. “What…But…You…You never bid…”
“I never wanted to win” Sho smiled coming up to the stage when it became clear that nobody was going to try and out bid him. Nino moved back on the stage as Sho came over and took Masaki’s hand. “I’m sorry, Masa-chan…”
“Eh? What for?” Masaki whispered now looking almost like he wanted to run away. Sho was holding him tightly though. “Why would you want…”
“When you told me that you loved me…I shouldn’t have ignored you” Sho moved closer to only Masaki, Nino, and Santa could here and Nino very nearly flushed brightly at how intimate they were being as Sho’s mouth almost pressed to his ear. “I should have told you, that I love you too…”
“Sho-chan?” Masaki sounded almost as though he was about to start crying at any moment. Nino could understand his friend’s reluctance to believe in Sho’s words. He had been wanting this for as long as he had worked here and for it to finally happen had made him too stunned to speak. There was a small murmur coming up from the watching crowds and he could feel that Sho was growing embarrassed, but he plunged on his voice a whole lot more certain as he said;
“I do you know, I’ve loved you probably from the first month you started working for me” Nino’s eyes bulged as Sho dropped down onto one knee pulling a ring box out of his pocket. This was not what he had been expecting when he had overheard Satoshi’s conversation with Sho. In fact, he doubted that anyone would have expected this. “I was going to ask you for a date, but I think that you and I are beyond that…Though I hope that we will have dates…Will you marry me?”
“I…Um…I…I…We…Um…I…Bu-but…We...We…Marry…”
“For gods sake stop spluttering and jump him you blithering, idiot” Nino hissed from behind his friend jabbing him in the back and causing him to stumble forward. He seemed to almost trip over his own feet and then fell forwards directly into Sho. Sho made to grab for him the ring flying out of his hands scattering over the stage. Nino watched it in slow motion his mouth open into a circle before he ran forward trying to catch it. It bounced from the stage into the crowd when a hand caught it and held it up between the thumb and forefinger. Nino blinked around the stage lights flushing when he saw Satoshi by the stage. He looked nervous but there was a determined look in his face. “Thank-you…”
“You’re welcome…Kazunari, I’m sorry…” Satoshi started but Nino turned away carrying the ring back to Sho who was still holding Masaki. Masaki was looking completely dazed but not so much that he wanted to pull away from the man.
“Here” He whispered handing the ring back to Sho who smiled and then looked at Masaki. Silently he seemed to ask a question and Masaki gave a very tiny nod his face going a red as Sho slipped the ring onto his finger.
“Thank-you” Sho whispered and then moved forward pressing his lips to Masaki’s and Nino let out a whistle wanting to clap loudly. Thankfully he wasn’t the only one and the Santa went on to exclaim loudly about the proposal. It was barely audible over the sound of the cheers and Nino knew that he was probably the loudest. He saw Masaki discreetly pinch himself, obviously trying to make sure that he wasn’t dreaming, and Nino couldn’t help but laugh and shake his head. His friend deserved nothing but the happiness that he was feeling.
“Okay, okay! Well! Sakurai-san! Aiba-san! Congratulations!” The Santa said a little more loudly as the clapping tailed off “There is still one person left, and I already have a couple of bids”
“Eh?” Nino frowned flushing as he felt Satoshi’s eyes on him. He had wanted to see him but now he wished that he could leave.
“So, I have to start the open bidding at 250…”
“20,000” Satoshi called out over riding any other voice and almost immediately everyone in the hall went silent looking at them as though it was a confirmation of their relationship. The Santa’s voice faulted and then he cleared his throat looking out at the crowd about to say that that was it when another voice shouted;
“25,000”
