Nino closed his eyes sitting on the back of the Shire. He still hadn’t gotten used to riding the giant beast but with Phoenix sitting on his lap he felt more comfortable. They had been travelling for two days without rest and though Nino couldn’t blame the elves for wanting to get to the tree his bum was sore and his back was starting to ache. Phoenix let out a soft honk and Nino opened his eyes again lightly stroking the plumes on his head as he whispered;

“Amin tyava tereva, ere' achien tuulo' i' an n lema” He had been practicing the words of the lady regularly knowing that phoenix understood the language easily and often corrected him with trills and honks rewarding him with songs and clicks of his beak. It was strange that a bird only recently hatched from his egg knew the ancient language but Nino supposed that it had a lot to do with the fact that Phoenix was from the time of the lady. “Kaima naa ante…I wonder if Satoshi will stop soon”

“Honk” The Aquenix honked loudly and then flew directly up into the sky flashing the blue of his wings and the gold of his tail. The blue light encircled him fully drawing the attention of all the elves in the caravan, including his beloved who had taken the lead with his Second and Third. Nino didn’t begrudge him leaving him while they were travelling as he knew that the King was keeping them all safe from danger but it made it difficult for him to think of him as anything other than the king of the Elves. Phoenix let out another loud honk and then circled the caravan three times before flying a little way away and settling down on a rock.

“Phoenix, come” Nino called holding out his hand embarrassed when the bird just gave a loud honk and turned his head away from him like a stubborn child. “Please…We must go”

Phoenix let out another series of loud honking until Dragon, who had been flying over Satoshi’s head, came to join the Aquenix on the rock a few moments later and Nino knew that the point had been made. They would be going no further that day. Nino flushed knowing that it had been his words that had prompted the actions of the bird but he couldn’t help it. He was too physically tired to keep his hands on the reigns of the Shire.

“Beloved is all well?” Satoshi asked riding from the head of the line to stand beside him the hooves of his own Shire stomping up and down as he neighed.

“I’m sorry, I’m too tired to continue today. I told Phoenix as much and I think he has decided to go no further” Nino whispered hanging his head sure that the rest of the clan would grow frustrated with his weakness but to his surprise there was a murmur of agreement all around him and Satoshi gave a smile which caught the light in his eyes.

“I see, I apologise, Beloved. So, concerned was I about what you saw in your vision that I forgot that I was driving everyone too far. It seems that your bird has found us a good spot” The high king smiled looking around at the area where the two birds were sitting with a nod as he rubbed his chin. “We will make camp here for two nights. My beloved is right to have stopped us, I apologise”

“You were worried”

“Yes, but even the tree of our people is meaningless to me if I make you sick. Please beloved, if you feel strain or tired in future do not be afraid to tell me”
