Nino chewed on the inside of his cheek as he sat in the carpark with the children. The three faces looked completely scared and all were hugging the teddies that he’d won them to their chests looking as though they wanted to vanish. His heart was once again breaking for them and he wanted to wrap each of them in a warm hug. He knew that they didn’t understand what was going on and he hoped that they hadn’t been so completely damaged that they thought they should be with their daddy.

“It will be okay” He murmured gently turning in the seat so that he could look at them all properly. Junta looked the most at ease though he was also the most tired and was staring at him with wide sleepy eyes. “Your uncle Satoshi is going to fix everything”

“Does this mean that we aint gonna live with Daddy no more?” Gina asked and Nino was surprised by the rush of something close to hope in her voice. Nino was about to answer, or at least try to, when he was startled by the sounds of sirens and the roar of police cars streaming into the carpark surrounding the arcade/shopping centre. Fear crept its way into his heart as police climbed out and strode towards the car.

“Ohno Kazunari?” One, a tall looking beta, asked tapping at the glass of the window with his knuckles and slowly Nino righted himself in the car seat and nodded with a smile. “Can you open the car door please, sir?”

“Can you step back? I have three scared children in here and I doubt that you’re helping them much” Nino snarled back in response when he heard the whimpers from the backseat. To his surprise the Beta looked a little ashamed of his actions and peered in through the back window.

“Sorry, kids, I need to talk to your Uncle for a minute if that’s okay? Just for a minute” He said with a smile “He’s going to be right out here with me but you’re going to be able to see him from the window. Okay?”

“Okay” Gina answered and Nino gave her a smile telling her how brave she was being before he climbed out of the car and stood beside the policeman.

“May I ask what’s happening?” He said as primly as he could manage remembering when he had taken the lead in the school play and acted a shogun. He had won everybody over with his well-bred and Aristocratic performance and it seemed that it worked now as the beta righted himself answered him with a prompt;

“Your husband called us, sir. He asked that we perform a drugs test and then take you and the children to his brother’s former home. He said that there were other children” Nino’s heart beat a little more quickly as he looked into the car and then quickly asked Gina;
“Gina sweetheart, how many more brothers and sisters do you have?”

“Eight” The little girl answered holding up her fingers before proceeding to count them off one at a time and Nino was aware that the beta police officer stiffened as well before letting out a disgusted sound from the back of his throat. Eleven children. Eleven and all of them so close that it would have been impossible for Kiyoshi to recover properly between them all. It was amazing that he had been able to survive that many. He wanted to scream at somebody and something for how unfair that it was that somebody who had been so nice to him as a child, could have been going through that and nobody cared.

“Okay, take me to my nephews and nieces, please they are going to be scared and confused that their father hasn’t come home”
