Nino blinked around the shop and all the Christmassy items that were stacked up in front of him. Music, a Christmas jingle was playing and a sign dressed up like a green, red, and white candy cane was announcing that Father Christmas was in store from the 24th of November until the 23rd of December. Auron was the only one of the two children that was truly ready for the experience even if his husband was positive that their youngest had smiled when watching the Snowman and the Snowdog. Nino was sure that he had probably only smiled because his daddy had been rocking him back and forth.

“Santa Claus! Santa Claus!” Auron cried pointing upwards and Nino slowly followed the hand pushing a fake indulgent smile on to his lips as he saw a painting of Santa high on the wall saying the same thing as the candy cane. The man looked somewhat sinister in the painting but Auron was definitely happy with the image that was before him and he tried to get out of the trolley.  “Santa Claus! Santa Claus!”  He repeated and Nino shook his head sighing as he tried and failed to say that Santa wasn’t there yet. He was but there was no way that he was going to suffer through the line of kids and grumpy adults on his own.

“Auron sit down…Santa isn’t yet…” He mumbled flushing brightly when the boy let out a blood curdling scream and tried harder to fight and get out of the trolley. “Auron…Please…” He pleaded weakly as eyes, both sympathetic and annoyed turned to look at them. They didn’t care that Auron had difficulties that sometimes made him act younger than his still tender age and to be honest he wasn’t having an easy job in trying to remember that. The tablets that had calmed him down enough to take the trip into town by himself had also came at the price that he was always feeling tired and irritable. The sound of his son screaming blue murder along with all the sounds that were going on around him were starting to feel like needles in his mind and the embarrassment of everyone looking at him wasn’t helping. “Auron if you don’t calm down we’re going home…” Nino snapped his fingers smacking harshly against his son’s. The boy stared at him for a moment and then started roaring even more loudly meaning that Nino pushed the trolley to the exit of the store dumping the few items that he had put inside the basket back into the collection basket at the door.

A shop assistant stared at him with a blank stare before dramatically sighing and rolling her eyes as she started muttering about inconsiderate people and screaming kids and Nino was positive that the world could open and swallow him and he would be in a much happier place. Auron screamed and shouted in ever more increasing degrees as he tried to drag him out of the trolley and Nino held back his own screams as tiny hands and feet struct out at him. More and more people had started to mutter in the shop and he could feel the waves of embarrassment growing inside.

His head suddenly felt light, a thick fog of black forming behind his eyes and then he was going falling to the floor before he realised what was happening.
