“Nin…Nino?” Masaki spluttered in disbelief two eyes and then a face coming up from behind the toy “Is that really you?! What…How…Who?”

“Where? I was at work and Sakurai-san came to find me…Told me that you were down and that I might be able to make you feel better…” Nino explained dryly another shrug moving through him before Masaki jumped up from the sofa and arms were wrapped around him like overly tight tentacles. Nino awkwardly returned the hug patting the idol gently on the back. “Hey Masaki, long time no see…”

“Too…Too long!” Masaki spluttered and Nino chuckled wetly blinking at the awkward tears that were collecting in his own eyes. It was annoying considering that he had never cried before and he buried his face into the soft hair of his former friend. “How…How have you been? How’s your mum? Your sister?”

“…I don’t talk to them…” Nino admitted and Masaki stiffened pulling himself out of his arms so he could look him in the face searchingly and Nino sighed saying “Things happened…What about you? I saw what that rag wrote…”

“It was true…I mean it is true…I am gay and I am dating Sho-chan…” Masaki said his eyes going over to Sho who was still kneeling on the floor beside them and Nino rolled his eyes in a sort of ‘No-duh’ expression and then smiled;

“So why are you crying about it? I mean…From what I can see it’s not that bad…”

“My company says that I have to break up with him and date a girl…” Masaki told him miserably and Nino swallowed glad that he just had his own psychosis that was telling him to leave Jun and that he couldn’t confess to him his true feelings. “I don’t want to do that…”

“So tell them to go stuff themselves…They don’t own you…” Nino muttered knowing that it was a very easy thing for him to say given that he just worked in a 7/11. “I mean…If you want to be with Sho be with him…There’s nothing else they can do about it…”

“You…You’ve become very blunt…” Masaki said and Nino knew that that was true. Being with Jun had done that. He wasn’t the type of person that valued messing around with words and Nino had grown used to that. He gave a little smile and mumbled quietly;

“If you want blunt you should meet Jay…”

“Who’s Jay?” Masaki asked with something of a sly smile and Nino rolled his eyes hitting on the shoulder before saying;

“None of your business…”

“Hey! You know all of my personal things!” Masaki pouted reminding him so much of when they were young and he gave a huge smile wanting to hug him again but knowing that the only the way to pull Masaki out of his mood was the same way he had done when they were kids.

“Not through personal choice…You had your personal life splashed all over the papers…It’s not my fault…All the sordid little details of your affair…” He said as glibly as possible ignoring the hiss from Sho and the gasp of surprise from Masaki. “I thought that you had gotten clever but you haven’t…”

“…It wasn’t my fault…”

“It never is…” He said with a roll of his eyes “But now here you are having to deal with it…And you can’t do that laid here pretending that the world doesn’t exist…” He pulled the blanket from the taller man and then the teddy leaving Masaki only in a pair of boxers and a t-shirt that had been lifted over his body revealing his stomach. “You should be out there doing damage control, admit the truth and let the dice fall where they may...If people support you then be happy if not tell them to fuck off...Leave them all behind…” Nino chuckled at that knowing that Masaki wouldn’t get it, in fact the only person that would get it was Jun and he wasn’t here. “I mean I’m guessing that Sho wants to be with you…At least he seems to want to…”

“Of course I do…” Sho nodded and Nino gave a satisfied smile and a nod glad that he had been right “But I want to do what’s right for you…”

“…Urgh…Such a good guy! How did you end up with a good guy? You lucked out…” Nino pouted deciding that ignoring his own problems was a very good way to go right now, at least for the moment. Unfortunately, he seemed to have said the wrong thing as Masaki pouted and asked;

“Jay isn’t a good guy?”

“…He is…The best…Better than me anyway…” Nino said with a shrug his cheeks flushing before he cleared his throat “Look it’s not a big deal…Jay is great and that’s all I’m saying…”

“…Okay…Tell me something else about you…What do you do?”

“I work shifts in a supermarket…” Nino answered knowing that there was no point in lying. Masaki would eventually find out and it wasn’t as if he was ashamed of what he did. In fact, given what he could have been doing working in a supermarket may as well have been the Ritz. Masaki looked troubled by his admission though and Nino was tempted to smack him hard on the side of his head. It wasn’t anything grand but given that only a few years ago he was so high he might as well have been a kite it was an improvement.

“And you don’t talk to your mum and sister? Why?” Masaki asked and Nino honestly wanted to understand why he had come here, why he was doing this with himself when he knew that Masaki would ask these questions. Masaki had known him when the Ninomiya’s were a supposed ‘perfect family unit’. His dad had been the successful business man; his mum had been the house wife who always got up extra early to create the best bentos and his sister had been an honour student.

That had all changed when his dad had shacked up with a receptionist, his mum had fallen into a deep depression and his sister had had to quit school to get a job to support them. Even then it had been a struggle, school had been a nightmare that had seemed never ending. Bullying had run rampant with his clothes all being second hand and there never being enough hot water for bathing as they had to share one bathroom with three other families. He couldn’t see the point of attending the school his father paid for in the end and he had fallen in with a bad crowd. It had started small and in the end, it became big. Music had been his only escape from the reality that he was a tweaked-out Twinkie with no hope and no future.

Jun was and is the golden boy, his saving grace. He had attended a private school, his mum and dad were devoted to each other, and they lived the perfect life. That they had met at all was something that shouldn’t have happened except by the grace of whatever deity was looking over his shoulder when he had signed onto that forum. Jun had been outed at his school and had found solace in the same type of music he had and somehow, some way they had found each other. The stars had aligned and all was right and good in the world, or it should have been if he didn’t feel like the worst kind of scum on the planet and he didn’t still think that Jun deserved more than an ex-junkie that still had no hope.  And yet, even with his mind saying that, he was a selfish bastard and he wouldn’t leave Jun first.
