The Night Stalker part 3

Monday, 11:32 am

Another pint of coffee and a 20-minute drive later I was pulling up outside of the dead girl’s apartment building. It wasn’t much to look at but in the heart of the city and on a hostess pay it was better than I could have expected. There was a police car parked out front checking the ID of everybody coming from and too the building. For a moment I was stuck but thankfully I managed to make my way in by helping an old lady with her bags of shopping. She and I separated at the elevator and I walked the two flights of stairs that would take me to Hana’s apartment. Inside I saw that the police had already been over it with a fine tooth comb. Meaning that all of the poor girl’s belonging had been thrown around the room with little regard to the fact that she was dead. I checked again knowing that there was always something that they would over look…

Nino sighed with mild frustration at the sight that greeted him. He would have put in a compliant if it hadn’t been technically illegal for him to be there in the first place. It wouldn’t have been in first time being taken down town but he highly doubted that Sho would be in the mood to bail him out so early in the day. Carefully starting his search for any clues he looked around the kitchen first noting that there was a calendar on the fridge which told him that instead of working last night as the police had supposed she had been going out for the evening with friends. He noted down what was written and then moved to another room.

There was very little of interest in any of the other rooms in the apartment and as always Nino thought that it was sad. A life cut down in their prime boiled down to only the things that they left behind and here it was pitifully small. Sighing he decided to leave the apartment and talk to those on the floor where she lived only there was barely any one home. Of course that wasn’t strange given the time of day but it was irritating as it meant that he would have to return later.

“Did you know Miyake Hana?” He asked the elderly neighbour that did answer and her face closed in on itself for a moment before clearing and clapping her hands together as she nodded;

“Hana-chan…Yes…Very quiet and a good girl…Walked my dog sometimes…”

“I see…Could you tell me if there was anybody who might have wanted to hurt her?” Nino asked deciding that this was already going to be one of those stories that Sho found interesting while he himself found dull. Good girl, down on her luck meets the wrong guy and tragedy strikes. Of course he wasn’t heartless he could fully understand that a young woman had died but it had been so promising with the no foot prints, the drained blood, and the dead skin tissue.

“No…No…Of course not…Nobody could want to hurt her…” The old woman said saying the same line that he had heard thousands of times before.

“Okay, ma’am thank-you for your time…” He mumbled snapping his book closed and making for the elevator.

The police guard was still on duty but he foolishly nodded at him not thinking it strange that somebody would be coming out of an apartment block. Nino nodded and then made his way to the car deciding to head for the club. Even though Hana hadn’t been working last night he could at least learn who she might have been with.

A/N: I hope that this wasn’t too boring >.<
