krystalkatzficz“How did you meet my brother?” Jun asked breaking the tense silence that had built up around them since Satoshi had brought them both a mug of coffee and they had sat down at the only two-person table in the cafeteria which was against the window. He was sure that Nino must have spoken with him to stop him from glaring so much. It hadn’t worked completely but Jun was clearly trying and Satoshi decided that it was at least a step in the right direction.
“At the arcade…I like to take my bike there…Nino and Aiba-kun like to hang out there…” Satoshi answered and Jun clicked his tongue against his teeth as he gave something that resembled a grim smile saying;
“…That’s why he didn’t want me to go…Because he was meeting you…”
“...Maybe…” Satoshi hummed and Jun sighed rolling his eyes and sticking his tongue out to lap at the coffee to test that it wasn’t too hot. It was the same thing that Nino had done earlier with his tea and although it was a small mundane thing it drove home the fact that the two teens were twins. Jun drank a swallow of coffee and then mumbled;
“I have to admit that I’m surprised you stuck around...”
“I do care about Nino and I do want to make sure he’s safe...I don’t pretend to know everything that you’re feeling or going through...I know that this was the last way Nino wanted you to find out about us…”
“In a perfect world Nino wouldn’t have told me at all…” Jun told him almost bitterly as he looked at him with a sad expression on his face and Satoshi had to admit that this wasn’t the way he imagined his first real conversation with Jun to go “We might be twins but we barely have anything in common…Nii-chan is closer to Masaki than he is me…They have more in common…”
“Of course they do…” Satoshi responded with a little shrug. With an outsider’s perspective it made perfect sense that Nino and Masaki would have a bond. They had both been young when they had met and they were both considered to be critical with little to no chance of surviving. Of course their bond would be heightened. “That’s normal right? Friends are the people you pick because you do have things in common with them, the same as you will have more in common with your friends right?” He pointed out and Jun gave a reluctant now of agreement “And from what I understand…Masaki-kun and Nino have had a similar experience as well as the shared trauma of having one of their roommates and friends die…I suppose that they understand each other in a way that you and I never will…I mean you sat there with him through that but you didn’t live it. You and I will never be able to know the thoughts and feelings that Nino has but Masaki can without even trying…Of course that’s not to say that Nino doesn’t care about you…It’s just in a different way…The same as he cares about me differently….” Satoshi gave the sullen teen a smile and then drank more of his coffee hoping that Nino was having a better time talking to Kimi than he was Jun.
