Satoshi sighed somewhat loudly as he saw Chinen walking towards him with purpose his friend from the wastes tagging along behind looking nervous and almost childlike in the armour that he was wearing. It had been two days since he had returned from claiming his puppy and it was the night of the monthly celebrations which included bonfires and Kabuki theatre. Traditionally that had had the ceremonies on the night of the full moon when the werewolves were unable to prevent their transformations and were at their most dangerous. Of course since the sky had been scorched dramatically and there was no moon anymore the tradition existed as a right of bonding.

Thankfully Sho’s cover of him running errands for him had held up, there were few people that would question the archivist even if he wasn’t the favoured son of the king of Vampires himself. Chinen on the other hand seemed to be the only one that hadn’t believed it and had been sticking to him like glue since the moment that he came back refusing to take the hint that he wasn’t interested in being near him. Of course his wife had found it amusing to a point but now she was growing increasingly more offended and irritated when the jumped up solider pushed her out of the way so he could stand beside him. He did so now and as it included pushing away his daughter Satoshi gave a growl moved around him again to pick her up and cuddle her into his chest on the side in which Chinen was.

“Are you okay my princess? Enjoying the show?” He asked making a great effort to ignore the boy but it was Chinen who answered saying;

“I find Kabuki to be silly…A human tradition…”

“…I wonder if he would have said the same if he had seen your Kabuki, husband…” Tahiya asked with a pointed chuckle and Satoshi was almost amused at how the younger vampire stiffened against him looking apologetic but before he could verbally apologise Tahiya continued “Your movements were flawless back then weren’t they Satoshi? You captivated me with your portrayals…It is such a shame you never decided to continue…”

“Even if I had there is only one person that I would wish to perform for, wife…” Satoshi huffed and they both knew he wasn’t talking about Tahiya. His Kabuki had always been of an overtly sexual kind. His movements being best descried as sexually alluring and there was indeed only one person that he would want to show that too and that was his puppy. Of course Chinen didn’t know that and for the first time Ohno noticed the look of pure hatred and jealousy on the young vampire’s face directed towards his wife. He wanted to challenge it but before he could it had slipped away again into a bland smile his head coyly cocking to one side as he whispered;

“Such a shame that I won’t be able to watch your Kabuki, General I’m sure that if I did I would change my mind about it…”

“…I have very little that I wish to express through the dance…Much less to people that don’t understand it or know the reasons behind it…Maybe one day you will ask the archivist for some history lessons…” Satoshi chastened him sharply and he was delighted to see the hurt flashing through his emerald eyes for a moment. Chinen seemed to be about to say something else and Satoshi was glad when his little girl yawned and pressed her face into his neck meaning that he had an excuse to leave. “Tahiya, Rhian is tired…”

“Do you want me to take her?”

“No, she’s comfortable in my arms…You stay enjoy the night…” Satoshi breathed moving in close so it looked as though he was kissing her cheek when instead he whispered in her ear “Lilianna is one soon…I would not deprive you from seeing her dance…” Tahiya very nearly flushed but she controlled her features and then kissed Rhian’s forehead lightly before allowing him to leave. To his ire Chinen followed at him hot on his heel. “Yuri…I don’t need an escort…” He growled sharply when they reached the apartment block which housed the higher ups “Nor will I be inviting you in…”

“R-Right…Sorry…I was heading…Heading home…”

“Then you’ll want your quarters…” Satoshi said motioning to the less nice apartment blocks down the road and once again Chinen’s face twisted into something unpleasant before he could squish it down with a smile. Deciding that he should at least give warning before he reported him he cleared his throat softly and whispered “You should be more careful…”

“Sir?”

“…I have noticed your admiration for me…Homosexuality is a crime…” He said carefully keeping his voice low so that nobody would hear them. Chinen’s face went through an array of emotions before settling on fear as he said quickly;

“...I’m not…Homosexual…I just admire you…”

“I see…” Satoshi was honestly tempted to roll his eyes at the denial but it showed that there was still some sense in the boy’s head. He had gotten worse since his time in the wastes and Satoshi was growing ever more convinced that he was going to do something incredibly stupid in the name of his admiration and Satoshi already had more than enough on his plate without having to worry about a silly and dangerous crush. He had never done anything to encourage the young vampire, at least not that he knew off but that hadn’t stopped him from drawing attention. Even now to the casual onlooker that they had left together would be suspicious. “…From now on I would prefer it if you kept your admiration for me to a low...Good night…” With that Satoshi swept into the apartment and adjusted his little girl around in his arms taking the stairs a couple at a time until he reached his floor. Thankfully he wasn’t followed and he was able to slip inside his rooms and lock the door without waking Rhian.

He carried her to her bed and placed her down in the sheets. They were as soft as he could get them and dyed with colours that matched the shades of her eyes in a tie-dyed effect that made it look like a blue sunrise. She had loved them from the moment that she had seen them and even now it was difficult to take them away to be washed. He carefully pulled her hair free from its ties and let it move down around her little chubby face in little waves.

“Good night my little princess I hope you have nothing but good dreams…” He breathed wishing that she wasn’t this close to the battlefields but there was nowhere else that she could go. Everywhere was a battlefield and at least with them she was somewhat safe and he knew where she was. Dropping a kiss on her forehead he left her bedroom and moved into his own. He wasn’t tired, his body so well programmed to the full moon attacks that he couldn’t force himself to sleep if he wanted to but he lay on his bed and allowed his mind to conjure images of his little puppy knowing that in just a few more days they would have to see each other. He wished that there was some way that they could talk to each other. He needed to know when the puppy needed him again missing each other by just a day could have devastating consequences on them both.

He let out a breathy groan in the back of his throat his mind filled with haunting images of Nino how had been when he first seen him that second time. Had been half driven insane and looked like death warmed over. He never wanted to see that again and he wished that there was some way that he could have brought him back here. He could have brought him here a prisoner and yet that would have just caused more problems with the werewolves advancing their attacks to get him back. It was unfair that they were trapped like this but he would figure out a way for them to be together. Of course the easiest option was to run but that would place Tahiya and Rhian at risk. His wife was right he had made a promise to them when she had agreed to be his wife and there was very little chance that he would be able to willingly leave his daughter. The only real thing that he could do was end the foolish war but many had died trying.

If only they could figure out what caused it but all knowledge had slipped out of time and memory of the people. It had to be a stupid reason there wasn’t a good reason that so many should have died and that was something that made him even angrier. The door to his bedroom opened and Rhian padded in her rag doll scrapping behind her by one foot her hair brushing against the floor until she tumbled onto the bed beside him and cuddled into his chest her little arms wrapping around him.

“Rhian?” He whispered softly but his princess was soon fast asleep again and Satoshi let out a chuckle and held her close putting the problem of Nino and the war out of his mind as he enjoyed the warmth of his little girl against him.

*~*~*~*~*

On the street below Chinen gave a growl his eyes flashing in the dark as his teeth spiked out of his mouth to hook over his bottom lip. Anger curled throughout his body at the dismissive attitude that the General had shown him and the fact that his bitch of a wife had openly berated him to as though he were a child. It was only the fact that she was the daughter of the king that had stopped him from snapping and demanding that she recognised him for who he was. He was the only son of Yuri Hajime, the hero of the Black River, he was used to getting everything that he wanted. He turned on his heel and swept over the street to the hovel that he had been assigned determined that he would get what he wanted now.

A/N: I did mention that Chinen was going to be a bad guy right? Sorry to any Chinen fans but I really dislike him :/
