Satoshi was tired. It had been a long day and an even longer week. He wanted all of this to be over so he could just enjoy the relationship that he had with Nino. He gave a sigh looking up as the door to his office opened and he was genuinely surprised to see the object of his thoughts come inside. He wasn’t wearing his uniform like had been when he had left that morning but instead had changed into a pair of black jeans, a shirt, and a blue cardigan. He looked pale and thoughtful with his lower lip being tugged between his teeth. His eyes were displaying something akin to sadness but there was also some confusion buried within the brown orbs. He could only guess what that meant but he was sure if he put money on it he would have been right and he steeled himself and took a breath preparing himself for a round of short and to the point questions.
“The reason for the attacks at your club is Shibanuma Hiyate…But you already knew that didn’t you? You pieced it altogether when you saw his brother on your security cameras…” Nino said as he sat down on the chair in front of the desk and Satoshi let out a breathy sigh sagging into the chair his fingers drumming his fingers on the desk before he nodded and whispered;
“Yes…”
“…Why didn’t you tell me? It would have made it so much easier…” His lover asked and he sighed again asking himself that question as he stared into the beautiful questioning face. It wasn’t that he hadn’t thought about it. Even last night he had lain there in the bed watching the light playing around on his face telling himself that he should just come clean and tell him everything that he knew. He knew that Nino would find out in the end and he had prepared himself for it but he didn’t want to be the one that talked about Hiyate first.
“…I don’t know…The timing never seemed right…And…I had hoped that maybe I was wrong…Hiyate…He wouldn’t have agreed with what his brother was doing and I didn’t want to sully his name by connecting him to it…”
“…You lived together…”
“…He lived with me…” Satoshi corrected lightly not wanting Nino to get the wrong idea. Hiyate had been a troubled soul and his drug problem hadn’t ended when he had gotten out of prison rather when he had gotten away from his mother. There had been no other way to help him but allow him to move in with him. Unfortunately, Hiyate had though had thought that it was more than it had been. When he had found out Hiyate’s feelings for him and his inability to return them things had turned sour between them and he had gone out and slept around. “…I never dated him, little fish…I wasn’t lying when I said that you are the only person I’ve ever been in love with…But he was in love with me and I failed him…Twice…”
“…Satoshi…”
“He came to work for me it was a week after he had been released from prison nobody else would touch him but I decided to take a chance…He was pretty and likable and the customers liked him…” Satoshi continued knowing that he should have told him all of this a week ago “I found him smoking weed a few times and gathered from conversations that he was also on harder things...When I told him that I would fire him he explained his home situation and I was more than happy to help out…He took it as being that I liked him more than as an employee…When I told him that that would never be the case he went with somebody that I had warned him against…Unfortunately…The worst happened…I wanted to support him even then but he told me that he didn’t want pity…”
“…Who attacked him…?”
“If I had known then they wouldn’t be alive now…But I don’t know…There will always be idiots and monsters pretending to be men…”
“Why didn’t you just tell me…?” Nino sighed getting up and coming around the desk and Satoshi sighed holding him by the hips and pressing his face into his stomach.
“…I wasn’t in love with Hiyate and his death made me angry enough to want to kill…What…What would your death do to me? I love you, little fish, like when I pushed you away…I was scared I saw the way Hiyate looked when they had beaten and drugged him…” Satoshi wrapped his arms around Nino’s waist and held him tightly to the point of almost squeezing him remembering the nightmares that he had had of Nino the same way as Hiyate “I don’t want you to go the same way…I should have told you…I shouldn’t have been coward enough to make you find it out alone...Forgive me?”
