Jun stayed awake as long as he could, watching his husband sleeping as he fingered the chain around his neck. Never would he have dreamed that Kazu would give him such a gift. It may have been deemed mere childish fumbling by his peers in the army but it was the words more than the actions that had stolen his breath away. Nino let out a soft noise in his sleep but instead of rolling away from him the way that he might have in the past he shifted closer to him and lay his head upon his chest his sleep ridden murmur quieting down into very gentle breaths. The position made it impossible for him to look any more but he lay there still listening to the quiet breaths until the sound of the door opening roused him. Of all the things that he might have been expecting to come through the door at 3:30 am on the morning of the winter festival it was not his father, mother, and Kazuko each with bags full of neatly wrapped gifts.

“Father? What is the meaning…” He whispered taking the furs that had slipped aside and covering Kazu's body and his own from view of their parents.

“Ah we had hoped that you would be asleep…” Satoshi chuckled just a little the twin flush of colour in his cheeks telling Jun that he had been drinking a little too much festive wine “We have come to deliver the winter gifts…”

“Kazu has never woken with them wrapped around his bed…” Kazuko hummed her eyes going to her son with a wonderful warm smile in them telling him that she approved of their sleeping arrangements. Jun tried hard not to think about remembering when he was young and had woken to the sight of winter gifts surrounding the bed. When he was very young he had believed the stories that his parents had spun about it being the work of the spirit of the festival and he couldn’t believe that nobody had heard of them or had that enjoyed that feeling of waking up and having the presents all around them. “I thought that it would be fun for him...We didn’t mean to interrupt you though…”

“It is okay…" He mumbled willing himself not to blush "My sprite is asleep…”

“Then we will work swiftly and silently!” His father giggled putting his finger to his mouth before tip toeing around the room placing gifts in various places around the room as Aurora and Kazuko did the same giggling happily as they did so. It was a cuter sight than hordes of little fairies and Jun had no idea of his lover was asleep. Once they were satisfied with the amount of gifts settled into place they smiled a little wider they bid them good night and then tiptoed back out again talking about invading his brothers’ rooms and Jun couldn’t help but laugh at the embarrassment that they might cause.

He enjoyed the thought for a little while longer and then moved out of Kazu’s grip to get down out of the bed. He had taken Sho’s advice, his first piece having worked out great after all, and had gotten Kazu a gift from each period of his life that he might not have previously enjoyed. Picking out a teddy bear had been a little bit embarrassing but eventually he had forgotten all of that and he had picked out a cute teddy with blue glass eyes and a yellow silk waist coat. He had attached his own silk bow and the bear was the one thing that he took out hoping that he would be able to explain the rest of the process to him. He walked back to the bed and placed the bear next to Kazu’s head and smiled his finger stroking down his cheek.

“Happy Winter Festival, my sprite…I love you…”
