“Kazu?” Jun asked coming into the room from taking out some trash surprised to find only Masaki sitting in there looking a little pensive. Jun suspected that there had been an argument. It was to be expected given how much he was doing to sort out the apartment. He had been there to make sure that nobody pushed him too fast or got angry if he took too long to decide over an item but he knew that he shouldn’t have worried. Not a single one of them would hurt Nino and they all had the patience of saints watching him decide and deliberate even over things that they would have thought of as rubbish.
“He found a necklace box…” Masaki whispered slowly “He looked like he’d seen a ghost and then went to the bedroom…”
“The green one? From Megumi…” Jun asked his heart sinking as he realised that this might be worse than an argument. Taking a breath to steel his nerves he made his way to the bedroom with his fists clenched into tight balls as he worried his lip surprised when he found Nino coming towards him with the chain around his neck and his eyes suspiciously damp but otherwise okay. “Kazu…?”
“…Nee-chan won’t mind if I keep this for a while right?” He asked fingering the scent bottle and Jun shook his head knowing that Nino’s sister wouldn’t care if he kept it forever as long as it made him happy again. It had been her that had ultimately decided that now was the time for him to come back. She had phoned him a few days ago telling him that she was more worried than she’d ever been about his mental state and had confessed that she and her mum had been hard on him. That was something that Jun had already known, he had been there when Nino’s mum had outright accused her son of turning Megumi against her even though they all knew that was a lie. Megumi had been the most wonderful and understanding person in the world when it came to her grandson and husband but she had never been the same with her own daughter and son. It was confusing but Jun suspected that it was because Nino was the most like Megumi. “…Grandma…She wrote me a letter…She said that she was sorry…And I remembered…She really liked you…”
“I liked her…” Jun said slowly reaching out to touch at the chain knowing that this was where it was meant to be. It worked both ways with Megumi and her daughter. Nino’s mum hadn’t been able to stand being in the room for more than five minutes without starting an argument. “She wanted you to have it…”
“…Yeah…I think so too…” Nino agreed giving him a slightly troubled little smile before moving forward and pressing a little kiss to his cheek. Jun let it happen not forcing him into anything and was happy when Nino gave him a quick hug before clapping his hands together and saying with more confidence than he had before saying “Shall we continue?”
“…If you’re sure…” Jun asked uncertainly wondering if he should suggest him taking a break but he didn’t want to stifle him if he really did feel up for it.
“I am…I want to do this…” Nino said with a light of determination in his eyes as he reached over to a stack of magazines “They can be chucked away…I don’t even know why I kept them…And then…Those clothes…I’m never gonna wear them…Do you think that we should give them to charity? I mean…Most still have their tags on…”
“Anything that you want to do will be great…”
