Jun woke at the crack of dawn ignoring the fact that he’d only had three hours sleep. He wasn’t normally a morning person but he had several things that he still wanted to prepare for his first date and he wanted to do it before Nino was awake. Unfortunately, he hadn’t counted on the animals waking Nino up but his house guest was awake and sitting in the living room with a pinched white face and the largest mug, filled with coffee, that he could find. The dog was yipping and barking excitedly as it chased his tail around the living room while the cat was purring and snorting in its position on the cushion beside the angry looking Nino.

“Bad night?” Jun asked trying hard not to smile even if he found the look on Nino’s face cute and the younger man snarled at him before draining his coffee and snapping;

“I was tempted to throw them off of the roof!”

“Oh dear…” Jun hummed soothingly as though he was talking to a wild beast as he made his way to the kitchen and the thankfully full coffee pot. He clicked his tongue against the roof of his mouth in solidarity and poured himself a drink before continuing with a soft “I guess they’re missing Masaki…”

“Yeah…Well he can take them with him next time and throw them in the ocean…” Nino growled looking at the pair as though he seriously wanted to commit an act of violence towards the pair. Jun himself had no love for either the dog or the cat but he knew that Masaki adored them and he sighed softly pouring Nino another cup coffee watching with distaste as he loaded it up with so much sugar and cream that by all rights he should be humming and floating to the rafters.

“We still have a few hours…” He hummed giving himself some cream and a single spoon of sugar to take off the bitterness from the coffee knowing that Nino made it strong. So strong that it was sometimes like mud in the bottom of his cup. “Why don’t you leave them here with me and go and get some more sleep? If you can with that amount of sugar and coffee in your system…”

“…You…Don’t mind?” Nino asked his eyes widening with surprise while his lips turned into a delighted smile and Jun nodded trying to ignore the flutter inside his chest at the sight. It was something that both Ohno and Masaki had pointed out to him that he was softer around Nino that they had seen him and that was because Nino wasn’t afraid of him. He never had been even before they were on speaking terms. When Ohno had told him about killing the man that had raped him he had been sure that Nino would now be scared of him but he wasn’t he treated him no differently and as such Jun found himself being softer around him with little to no effort on his part.

“I wouldn’t have suggested it if I did…Go…Before I change my mind…” He said hoping that this would allow him to get what he needed to finish finished and Nino let out a whoop of joy grabbing his cup and hurrying off to the bedroom faster than even Jun was expecting. Jun rolled his eyes smiling fondly before shaking his and setting about finishing up the picnic that he had started in the middle of the night. He had talked about the date with his father over the last couple of days and Ohno had warned him away from doing anything too fancy or grandiose telling him that it would make Nino uncomfortable and Jun had to agree that that was what he had thought as well and he remembered the fun things that he and his mum used to do and got his idea from there hoping that Nino would enjoy it to.
