After the club part 30
“So…You’re looking uncharacteristically happy, brother…” Maelee smiled forcing Satoshi to pull his eyes away from the sight of Nino walking into the café. He gave a smirk and then settled back into a chair his fingers tapping on the wooden table. He wasn’t sure he could explain his relationship with Nino to his sister but as long as she was convinced that he was happy, and he was, then that was all he needed for now.
“I am…How is he?”
“Nino? He seems to be rather young…” His sister smiled causing Satoshi to roll his eyes it was clear that she was joking but he wasn’t in the mood. He and his father hadn’t been on speaking terms since he was a child but it was still disturbing to him that his father was sick. He fixed her with a stare and Maelee sighed taking a sip of her coffee before fixing him with a stare of her own. It was enough to cause him to pout and fold his arms over his chest saying;
“You know that I wasn’t asking that…”
“I know, but I would rather talk about that than father…” The woman said with a shrug placing her cup back down and silently he agreed. There was a lot that he wanted to tell his sister knowing that it was the first time that he actually had anything to tell her. The fish around his neck moved a little remembering the promise that he had made to her when she had loaned him the money and pretty much broke him out of the house. “He’s in the hospital…They say that it doesn’t look good…”
“And…Has he actually asked to see me?” Satoshi hated how shaky his voice sounded but given all that had happened between him and his father that it would have been surprising if there wasn’t any emotion in his voice and Maelee fixed him with a sad look her head moving slowly from side to side before she whispered;
“No…Like always his stubbornly refuses to admit that he even has a son…” Satoshi didn’t react too much to that. His father had never been an easy man and he had never accepted his homosexuality. He had demanded that he marry and continue the family name in the temple. Even if he hadn’t been gay that was not the life that he had wanted for himself but being young he had wanted his father’s approval and he had tried desperately to be ‘normal’. He had gotten a girlfriend; he had done everything his father had asked of him even though it was slowly killing him inside. Maelee had been convinced that one day she would go to wake him up and he would me dead and she had managed, somehow, to convince him to leave. It had been the best thing that had ever happened to him but Maelee, Maelee had never been allowed to escape and he could feel the guilt of it crushing his heart sometimes though she had told him that it didn’t matter. “He won’t even hear your name mentioned…”
“So why did you call me?” Satoshi asked his eyes going to the door to make sure that Nino wasn’t coming through it doubting that the younger man wanted to deal with something so heavy when he was probably only with him for fun. Maelee let out a long huff her mouth twisting in a scowl.
“Because unlike him, I care about you and I don’t want him to go to his death without you being able to get some stuff off of your chest…I won’t let him hurt you like that…So…Will you speak to him?”
“…I will…But not yet…” Satoshi agreed his eyes going back to the door as Nino came out carrying a tray “There you are little fish…I thought you had gotten lost…”
